Yes, I enjoy a good thinker as well. I hate to see them off track, though. Sadly, Jon is separated from God’s thinking and prefers another, an ecclesial community built by a heretic. Jon, if you’re really a good thinker, and even more so an obedient follower of God, then you’ll make it over to His one Church. Until then, you’ll remain a thinker, with your own thoughts that don’t necessarily follow Christ’s teachings and the authority He established. If you reject those sent by Christ which are today the Magisterium of the Catholic Church, then you reject Christ. Please think about that, and bring yourself over to the right track.
I really believe you care. I truly believe your concerns are heartfelt. I appreciate that. I’d like you to think about how you present, however. You accuse me of either being a liar, or believing liars (like my dad who was a Lutheran pastor), then ask me to listen to you. How effective do you think that will be?
Look at the anger in some of the responses you’ve gotten. Do you truly believe you have well served your professed goal of bringing people home to the one true Church?

Jon

I sited scripture and the early church as the basis for Lutheran teaching, as well as the Confessions. Do you consider scripture and the early councils to be man-made teachings not of God? I’m sure not! So, your definition of “manmade teachings” must then be “teachings that don’t agree with Rome’s communion”. It applies to all that are not in communion with Rome.
You are welcome to this view, which I consider triumphalist, and I’m not offended by it. I have heard it frequently enough, and even sometimes from fellow Lutherans. But I will second workingman’s statement that the presentation of your view, not necessarily your view itself, does not lead to positve dialogue between those of us that truly seek unity.
Jon, my separated brother, Christ never intended that the Lutheran Church be built, even if you are using your best interpretations of the Scriptures authored by Catholic men.

Many Lutheran teachings are flat out wrong, and mislead people… leading them away from the real and full truths that Christ left for us. As my separated brother, you also miss out on five of the Seven Sacraments. YOU don’t have a valid Eucharist, for instance. This is critical.

God did not build the Lutheran ecclesial community. Your brand of religion bears the man’s name who did. This man was not also God, and sadly he was a heretic.
What is really sad is when we claim we are speading truth and want others to hear it and listen, and start out by telling them they are liars or believe lies from their leaders, that they or their leaders are intentionally leading them away from truth. So, the method is to personally insult, them, offend them, then expect them to listen to you. 🤷
If the truth offends you, then you’re on the wrong side of it. I am not offended by the truth. However, neither have you accurately characterized what I wrote as it was intended.
So, are you saying that the 60 years of dialogue between Lutherans and Catholics has been nothing but touchy-feely, and that your leaders have allowed the hard truth to be lacking in those dialogues?

Jon
To come away from that as “the characteristic” in a nutshell of what I said is very poor indeed. Suffice it to say, you’re a long way off and missing the real truth here.

Not really. I am saying you are being misled. You and your father may be really sincere people who love Christ. I am not doubting that. The lies started when the father of lies helped Luther, Calvin, Zwingli, etc build their own religions which denounced Christ’s one relgion. From there, there have been many innocent victims, like I believe you are, and likely your father. So, yes, you believe someone who lied, but I’m not saying it was one generation ago, two, even three… for you, these have been 500 odd years in the making. I am asking good men who love God, to please stop this and break Satan’s influence that keeps you and I from being full brothers in God’s one Church.

A priest said recently, “Nobody ever left the Catholic Church because they were smart.” I agree.

Catholic men wrote the New Testament based on what was being taught orally with the Holy Spirit. The New Testament is Catholicism, but not all of Catholicism.

Sadly, you were not educated in God’s truth, and so you left it. It happens all the time. Jesus gave a parable about it in the sower and the seeds. Sadly, you are fulfilling Jesus’ prophecy and are on the wrong side of it. Arrogance is thinking you know more than God, which in ignorance, you’re displaying.

I’ll pray that you come to the truth, which God teaches only in His One Catholic Church with the office of Peter as visible head. May God please heal you.
God did heal me and he led me out of the Roman Catholic church which is obviously not his one and only Church. His church is not an institution my friend, read the Bible. know what the real traditios of the Early Church were. There was no papal infallibility nor was there the dogmas of Mary. You are not being led by the spirit. I will pray for you.

… Look at the anger in some of the responses you’ve gotten. Do you truly believe you have well served your professed goal of bringing people home to the one true Church?

Jon
Look at the responses I’ve given to these. There is your answer.

I don’t convert people. The heavy lifting of conversion is done by the Holy Spirit.

I have told you the truth. Many people accept for a lifetime these falsehoods as though they were true. Hopefully, I have gotten you to consider it. How have I done you any wrong?

You may ask if your ecclesial community has lied to you about some aspect or aspects of Christ and His salvation for us, and I have told you the truth… who is really doing the disservice and who is doing the service?

How sad that you are not a full brother, but you have separate yourself from full brotherhood. I welcome you to the full brotherhood established by Christ, in His One Catholic Church.
You have been deceived. This is not of God.

Here’s what I have learned from reading this thread. Some people are simply not meant to or called to evangelize and should not.

You have been deceived. This is not of God.
Projection… not just a home media term.

What I’ve told you is indeed truth. Truth is of God.

Since you call the truth a lie, then you are following the father of lies against God. I pray that you will wake up and see God’s truth, before it is too late for you. May God please heal you.

You are berating and insulting thsoe who saw the wrongs and unholiness of a church that would not listen to those who were motivated by God to reform an institution run by man and led by man. You reap what you sow and I’m sad for what you don’t know and understand. I wish you knew the unspeakable peace and power of the Spirit.

Do you mean like agnostics as you claim to be, are not called to evangelize? They don’t know the truth or know and deny it, and therefore can’t evangelize for God.

People of God are indeed called to tell the truth, as I have done. Our society has gotten so far away from truth, that many are hostile to it, as we’ve seen here in the responses opposing the truth of God’s one Church.

=MDK;5720232]Jon, my separated brother, Christ never intended that the Lutheran Church be built, even if you are using your best interpretations of the Scriptures authored by Catholic men.
I agree. He wanted one Church, which has not been the case for a thousand years, now. Abuses in the 16th century, and sinfulness on both sides of the Reformation, has lead to an even further splintering of His Church, and has wounded it’s minstry. So, what are you doing to bring people together?

Goodness, MDK, you know me well enough to know that I know this is the teaching of your Church, and I expect you to say this, and that I also disagree. Presbyter ordination was practiced by the CC, at times, before the Reformation.
If the truth offends you, then you’re on the wrong side of it. I am not offended by the truth. However, neither have you accurately characterized what I wrote as it was intended.
Then restate it, that I may better understand.

See above.

I’ve seen what you post, and it’s from some spirit indeed, but not from God’s Holy Spirit. The Truth came to earth and was beaten and flogged, spit on, defected, called a liar by men. It’s no surprise that when one in His one Church teaches the same truths of Christ, then the same would be attempted by the ignorant. Notice that I don’t say evil. I believe you don’t know what you’re doing, and so do the wrong thing.

God only created His one Catholic Church with Peter as head. God still wants His Church to be one. It is your people who left for their own teachings, and you who live in that man made tradition. Is the office of Peter head of your “church”, or am I missing something?

Why do you ignore what I’ve written? I’m asking you who left God’s one Church to come back into it. What you’re getting now is not authentically His teaching.
Goodness, MDK, you know me well enough to know that I know this is the teaching of your Church, and I expect you to say this, and that I also disagree. Presbyter ordination was practiced by the CC, at times, before the Reformation.
You apparently are still missing either some pieces of the puzzle or just don’t want to go along with is. Probably the former. If you really understood the full truth, I think you would be in God’s one Church.
Then restate it, that I may better understand.
Just keep reading what the Catholic Church teaches. It is what God teaches. You can’t say that about Lutheranism without running into trouble with the truth very quickly.

I don’t convert people. The heavy lifting of conversion is done by the Holy Spirit.

I would contend that your style and approach (unintentionally) stands in His way.
I have told you the truth. Many people accept for a lifetime these falsehoods as though they were true. Hopefully, I have gotten you to consider it. How have I done you any wrong?

Your intentions are not from God my friend. You are promoting an institution, not the Church that Jesus founded.

No, you are far from healed, and you never will be if you believe that.

I see why you left, as you show ignorance of what you left. God’s Church is not just some “institution” but it is His Mystical Body, His Bride. If Christ didn’t think it’s important, then why did Christ built it? Your ignorance continues to how the Bible came about and who has the authority from Christ to teach. Catholic men wrote the NT. The NT is Catholicism, but not all of Catholicism. The one Church Christ built with Peter as head will never be compromised in her teaching by the gates of Hell. This same Church with Peter as head still exists today, and is His one Catholic Church. The Holy Spirit is with God’s Catholic Church. It’s the same Spirit by which I can teach the truths of God’s Church because I learned them from those who God sent.

Since you oppose the 2,000 year old teachings of God’s Church as led by His Holy Spirit, what does that say about you? Please come into the truth, and out of the darkness where the father of lies prefers that you remain.

Please do pray for me, that I can continue to stand up for God and His Church in the face of those who out of ignorance, decry then leave His Mystical Body.

Your intentions are not from God my friend. You are promoting an institution, not the Church that Jesus founded.
The Church that Jesus built has Peter as the visible or earthly head. The gates of Hell will never prevail against it. There is only one Church on earth with Peter as visible head, and you profess not to be in it. What’s more, you profess that God’s Church is wrong.

Where does that put you? Are you with God’s Church with Peter as earthly Prime Minister, or are you doing your own thing believing the faterh of lies against God’s one Church?

This is a very important thing, and not one you or any of us should take lightly.

When does it stop? When do you stop calling everyone who ever left the Catholic church ignorant of its teachings? That won’t cut the mustard anymore. You need a viable defense of your faith, not just trying to paint everyone who doesn’t agree with you as ignorant of Catholicism. Show us. Simply show us in Scripture where the church centered in Rome is God’s one Church. If it were, those who seek him and who have sought him for centuries would be in it.

But the gates of hell HAVE prevailed against it many times already MDK. There are none so blind as those who will not see.

Jon,
Thanks. You show that the Lutherans are basing their system on beliefs and standards of men who are not also God. Catholic teaching is straight from the God-man, and protected by Him from error. God never told Martin Luther or any of Luther’s followers that they could make their own religion, did Christ? No, of course not. The mere fact that there exists a Lutheran ecclesial community (which is not a proper “Church”) is against the Will of God. God established and intended only one Church… one Shepherd, one flock. You’ve got your own flock over there, in opposition to Christ’s desire that there only be one… and the one He established with Peter as earthly head. Since your ecclesial community is based on men’s interpretations of the Catholic authored Scriptures, you often differ with God’s authentic teaching.

So, sadly you are doing exactly what I warned against, and accepting error over truth. Please come home to the truth, in God’s one Catholic Church that He built and remains Head of this body, His one Bride.
Your posts crack me up. I know you are just throwing them out their to provoke people. You attack others for having man made systems when someone notes using the Word of God as their guide and Lutheran confessions AND then note you do the same thing.

The same ill thought out argument you throw at Protestants is used by the Eastern Orthodox against the Roman Catholic Church. The Eastern Orthodox say the RC LEFT the Catholic Church when they split from the other Patriarchs. The EO then say the RCC developed innovative doctrines (immaculate conception, etc) that were not part of the Catholic Church. So while the EO remained as the Catholic conciliar church the RCC developed the doctrines of man. You see MDK everything you say about Protestants could be said about the RCC. You could claim that even though the RCC Church left the ancient church, because it had the Pope who was guided by the HS the Pope could develop new doctrines but then this would be not a whole lot different than Joseph Smith and the Mormons claiming that Joseph Smith was guided by God to develop ancient doctrines that had been lost and restore the church (etc). From an LDS point of view he spoke as a prophet of God.

Protestants do believe they follow the Word of God and that is their standard guided by the Holy Spirit and God given reason. Before you say, how come there are so many interpretations…probably for the same reason the RCC developed new doctrines AND interpretations that did not exist within the ancient Church (the Orthodox Catholic faith which the RCC went into schism from). Variations within a family are not necessarily sinful anymore than they were within the 12 tribes of Israel as long as the doctrine is orthodox.

Please note that I have respect for the RCC but am simply pointing out that MDK’s rhetoric does not hold much water. From a Protestant view you guard against innovative doctrines that many come from a man such as the Pope or Joseph Smith by looking to the Word of God. God gave his church His Holy Spirit and the Word of God to guide it AND Just90 is correct that he is part of that church.
