To those who are married or have a girlfriend/boyfriend on these forums. How did you meet your husband/wife or girlfriend/boyfriend? I’m 23 and never had a girlfriend so I have no clue how to go about meeting practicing Catholic girls. Generally when I meet any practicing Catholic girls they’re older than me and not interested. Any help would be much appreciated.

Some single Catholics meet people in church.

That doesn’t work for me, though, because I always fall asleep.

I met my boyfriend of almost two years in college, where we sang together in the choir.

I met my girlfriend on a dating site. Which was about 99% gay guys, so I am very fortune to have found her.

There are many ways that God can lead you to a girl:
  • Dating sites
  • Providential meetings at coffee shops, park benches, etc.
  • Church activities
  • Workplaces
  • College
  • Church (Priests are married to the Church, so their “girl” would be Holy Mother Church)
Pray, hope, and don’t worry. 😉

Well I am a single girl in my early twenties too, and I would love for a guy to walk up to me and ask me to get some coffee someday after daily mass. Even if I wasn’t necessarily interested, I probably wouldn’t say no, just because it can be so difficult to meet other devout Catholics who are my own age. Maybe it’s too much to ask though… sigh… 🤷

If you are too shy to just walk up to a girl you don’t know, then you could try joining a Bible study or choir or maybe going on a retreat. That way you would have the chance to become friends with some Catholic young people. Personally, I dislike the idea of dating sites, probably because I prefer to talk face to face about serious topics.

Ditto. I would love to have at least one Catholic friend in this world.

I am a 25 year old guy, and I for a long time felt very much like the OP. I had one semi-serious relationship that failed because of religious differences. She was a great young lady but… not Catholic. For a while I was really looking. I tried Catholicmatch.com, I joined a young adult’s group at one of the Catholic churches in town, I really was trying but just not seeing anything that was anywhere close to a fit. This year I went back to school for a masters degree. I was so busy with the new program, that I more or less forgot about it for the time being. Then I was having a conversation with one of my classmates and made the comment that I would never consider a relationship with a non catholic again, she laughed and said, “you have to meet my room mate, she just said the same thing a few weeks ago.” That was about a month and a half ago. It took my classmate about a week of pestering both her roommate and I before we actually met each other. It turns out that she is a grad student in the same department but with a different concentration. Our home towns are about 15 minutes apart. We even know some of the same people from back home. We have a lot of common interests. We started to go to Mass and Bible study together, and gradually started spending more time together as well. Due to a few circumstances, we are taking things very slow so I think it would be premature to call it a real relationship yet, but I will say she has more potential than anyone else I have met so far. Just tonight, we met up with a few of her friends and then when we got back to her place we decided to take a walk to finish our discussion that we had going in the truck and ended up talking and walking for about 2 hours before we said good night.

I guess what I am trying to illustrate, is that this is something that you really can not put a time table on. It is not something that you can force. You need to be open, put yourself in situations where you can meet people, but not let it be the focus of your life. You have to pray and trust God. It was when I wasn’t even looking that He dropped someone in my lap… it is too early to tell where it will lead, but at the very least I have made a great friend that I share a common faith with, can go to Mass with, and talk about my faith with. Just hang in there.

Since nobody else suggested this:

Try arranged marriage! 😃

It is still the norm in India, btw. But you’d have to have a job and be ready to support a family before you give that a shot.

Anyway, you are still very young. Trying all the suggestions made here (not mine!) should yield results.

Good luck with your search!

Thank you for the suggestions. Not having ever dated won’t effect my chances? I’m essentially new to this whole thing.

Ok everybody tells me the main thing you need to do is put yourself out there. Join groups, go out have fun, don’t focus on girlfriend hunting, get involved in church. Been there done all that still single no BF. All I can really say is live your life and take some risks. Don’t sit around waiting for Miss Wonderful to show up if you do then it’s likely she won’t. I think it’s all a numbers game anyway. The more you get out and about the more chance you have of meeting her. Maybe even start a singles group of you own if you don’t have one availible. You’d be surprised how many other people might join such a group. I think the single biggest failing of the church nowdays is in it’s lack of attention to singles in general.

not trying to be facetious but I have been doing RCIA and adult Confirmation classes for 8 years and they can be muey romantico. at least one wedding a year among those who met, or got to know one another better, here, and a few couples have come back for baptismal parent classes!

I wonder about this too. I’m a 27-year-old girl, and I’ve never dated either. (Yet, I’m hesitant to even mention this, because it seems so unusual!!) Do people consider it strange when you hit a certain age without dating experience??

I’ve been a member of some of the Catholic dating sites for a couple years; nothing so far. I’m going to a “Catholic” college, but, unfortunately, there are few Catholic students in it (and even fewer practicing!!) I joined a large (for this area) parish, but there just aren’t a lot of young people in Vermont!! I’ve never seen a single man in my parish that was under the age of 80.

I’m running out of ideas, lol. 🤷

I don’t think you need to mention it upfront; however, the guy may notice it, if things progressed, and at that point, you may consider volunteering that information. I wouldn’t call it strange at all, since everyone’s different. If someone asks though, you may want to think ahead of time the reasons why you have held off dating till now. For all you know, some guys might prefer girls just like you. There’s a reason God made each and every one of us unique.

But again, it could just be the water in Vermont. God bless you!

It is unusual, but not in a bad way. Personally I would be curious about the reasons, but otherwise I would not care. What matters is the person and the mutual relationship, and only a fool would discard somebody due to a lack of dating experience. Also if you turned out to be the one, it would be a great privilege to be the only man you have ever dated. Usually that only happens, if you end up marrying your high school sweetheart. So no, it is nothing to be ashamed of :).

God bless you

They do, but that should not make you feel worse. Let me tell you something: dating experience is not prerequisite to anything. Dating experience exists because we have limited faculties in judging our relationships, because we change and “outgrow” certain relationships, and because of other factors. Secular people will sometimes say they don’t want virgins because virgins don’t know how to have sex. Thinking that people without dating experience are somehow second-rate is akin to that line of thinking.

If a guy becomes hesitant after hearing you don’t really have any experience, that may be for two reasons: he may fear to hurt you or he may think you’re weird. If the latter is true, skip him right away.

I live in a Catholic country. 90% of the people are baptised Catholic, of the rest some are Orthodox or Protestant. However, much fewer people are practising and I suppose that perhaps of the practising ones, some “disagree” with certain teachings. Can you believe how hard it is for me to find someone? I’m not ugly or anything. According to my office roommate, half my law firm would die to go on a date… except it never comes to reality in practise and except I just am not going to make moves on a secular girl with whom I already know my values and my ways of thinking with clash.

Another thing is that most Catholics here are politically liberal. That means they vote for the lib party, not the “true” liberals (in the real sense) who are actually few. That party is something I consider dangerous to our country and I believe PR and empty promises are something they know better than real actual work that brings results. And I can’t accept their actions or words, as they don’t meet my standards of honesty. People who support that party (under 40% nationwide, but much higher in big cities - and mine is the capital) seem misguided to me, to the point I’d hardly be able to overcome my philosophical differences with them and I generally doubt their ability to think on their own, as I see them as being under the lib party’s spell. I once went through a lot of profiles on a dating site and I saw only two women with “conservative” as their political views and one with “moderate”. Everyone else “liberal” to “very liberal”. Again, that wouldn’t be so bad unless it inevitably translated to supporting the PR-heavy work-light lib party, which it unfortunately most probably does.

And now consider that there must be something special between people, some spark to catch fire, so it’s not enough that you align religiously and philosophically and are able to respect the other’s political views. There must be some attraction, some connection…

All in all, seeing many pretty girls the right age, exchanging smiles and short conversations with some of them every day, I still can’t really think of anyone… In fact, given what I see, I am beginning to doubt that “one” exists.
