Hi NotWorthy, Yes I know that. What I’m getting at is what sins will a priest not forgive (per John 20). Because Jesus said that ALL sins will be forgiven except that one against the Holy Spirit. What other sins can there be? ED O.
Somewhere in my learning from my mother, she said that the sins that you commit knowingly and fully that they are wrong and sinfull, and you refuse to change and not commit those sins, your sins will be held and not absolved by the priest. If you repeatedly commit a sin without secereity to change your sinful ways, then a priest cannot loose your sins that you have bound to yourself until you DO commit to NOT committing those same sins.

What you failed to tell me is since these words are not found in the dictionary how would you expect me to answer you ?

My intentions are not to insult but to question. In the O.T. God made what He wanted done very clear. But the leaders (Pharisees and Sadducees with their High Priests) added so much more (rules) that Jesus said that even they thenseves weren’t able to follow. Now when I read the books of Acts and the Epistles I can’t find much of what goes on in the R.C. Church today. Isn’t this a similar situatuion?

Here’s why I have a problem with what you state here. Eph 2:19-20 very clearly states that God’s church is built on the foudation of the Apostles and Prophets with Jesus as the head. In Mat 18:18 Jesus gave ALL the apostles the authority to bind and loosen. Since they are all dead now, what more is there to bind and loosen that they haven’t mentioned in God’ Word? Now consider what Jesus has to say per Mark 16:17, He told the Eleven to go into all the world and preach the Good News (gospel). “whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.” The whole purpose of the church is to get people saved and to heaven. That being said, why then all the extra rules that are being practiced by the R/C. Church when Jesus mention only BELIEVE the GOSPEL? ED O.
In what God do you believe Ed?! The Apostles are alive…souls in heaven. saints. Upon whose intercession we pray to for help in obtaining answers to prayers from God the Father! Anyone who can say that the apostles are ‘‘dead’ doesn’t have a true sense of belief in the trinity, the souls of the departed or the Catholic church’s teachings…Don’t play with fire Ed. God’s listening!:tsktsk:’

I think neither you, nor I, need to question Ed’s belief in God. We may disagree with Ed, and help clear up our differences, but its not ours to judge him.

Hi NotWorthy, Thank you for what you say here. As I told you once before, I find you to be very respectful and worth my time to converse with you. I appreciate you very much. ED O. “Jesus Loves You”

All of these words are used in the Last Supper scene. When you look at the Old Testament context of these words, as well as the washing of the feet in the OT, you may have trouble denying that Jesus instituted a priesthood at the Last Supper.
Hi Not Worthy, I have no knowledge of the Greek language. I have to rely on what others tell me what the Greek words mean.------ I would appreciate for you to explain to me how the washing of feet institutes the priesthood? ---- That is news to me! ------ Also why is it necessary for me to understand Greek words concerning the Last Supper other than what I already know of it from what I read in English?
Do you wish to find the context of these words or would you like me to show you
I would appreciate if you show me please. ED O. Jesus Loves You

Thanks for your words, as well, Ed. Although you and I have different beliefs, I do not doubt your love for Christ and the continuous search for His Truth.

Let me get back with you on this answer, for right now I’m at work and tonight I’m traveling for a basketball game (high school play-offs… I LOVE THEM!).

So, in the meantime, meditate on patience and please exercise that patience with me, brother! May his Peace be with you, always!

I see binding and loosing going on. The Jerusalem Council is a perfect example of the Church wielding the authority to Bind in response to a situation that wasn’t present a few chapters earlier in Acts.
Yes I agree because it directly concerned salvation but since then there weren’t any other issues that came up concerning salvation.
The needs of the Church change, and the Church has the authority to adjust to those changes. Now, has the world quit changing? Was Stem Cell research an issue in the 1st century?
I understand what you say here, yes the world does change but isn’t the Holy Spirit capable of guiding the church. The Holy Spirit seems to be guiding the Prostestant churches in the same manner, Stem cells, abortion, pornography, etc. the Catholic and the Protestant churches both agree.
Ed, the early Church, the ones who heard the Gospel first hand, certainly didn’t teach that you only have to “Believe” in the Gospel. What’s happened is that, the word “Believe” has been so watered down that its lost its emphasis
. Here, I disagree with you because when Peter preached his first sermon after being filled with the Holy Spirit, the Bible very clearly states that 3000 people got saved later 5000 got saved.----- Also John1:13-14 & 3:18 , Eph 1:13, Acts 16:31, then would be all wrong.
But to approach another point that you brought up. “Go out to all the world…” Did the Original Eleven go out to all the world? No. They needed successors to do this. Jesus knew that. Evidently, Jesus wanted them to have successors in order to “Go out to all the world”.
Again I respectfully disagree with you. You assume that Jesus meant successors but nowhere in the Bible does it mention of any.----- However; in Mat 28:19 Jesus makes it very clear when He commands to make DISCIPLES (not successors) of all nations. The people of all nations are the disciples. It doesn’t take much to understand the simplicity of the gospel in order to be saved. So one disciple makes another disciple then to another then nations are discipled up to the presernt day.
Second point on that. Why does Jesus call Judas role as an Apostle “an office” (aka “Episcopate”)? “Offices” are permanent positions that are filled by a succession of people
Jesus filled that office when He called Paul. That’s why I contend that Peter acted too hastily when Matthias was chosen, because there will be twelve judges per Mat 19:28 and twelve names per Rev 21:14 ED O. Jesus Loves You.

Oh really? Do you want to talk about homosexuality? How about contraception? Nearly every major religion has done a flip-flop on contraception since 1930 EXCEPT for the Catholic Church. Prior to 1930, every Christian faith condemned it. How many condemn contraception now?
Here, I disagree with you because when Peter preached his first sermon after being filled with the Holy Spirit, the Bible very clearly states that 3000 people got saved later 5000 got saved.----- Also John1:13-14 & 3:18 , Eph 1:13, Acts 16:31, then would be all wrong.
Yes, they believed it what was taught and they were saved. Now, I’m not sure if your faith teaches this, but many faiths teach that, once one has acknowledged that Jesus Christ is their Savior, then they are guaranteed to get to heaven. It doesn’t matter if they sin later on because they are saved. “Believing” does not mean this. “Believing” means that you believe what Jesus taught and you act in accordance with that Belief. One simply needs to read the NT Epistles to see that all the authors preached to turn away from sin and follow Christ. Sadly, many people today don’t equate “Believing” with “Obedience”.
Again I respectfully disagree with you. But where is the authority to BIND AND LOOSE? Who has that authority. Did it die with the Apostles? As in my previous example, some churches felt they had the authority to change their church’s position on contraception. Where did they get that authority?
Jesus filled that office when He called Paul. That’s why I contend that Peter acted too hastily when Matthias was chosen, because there will be twelve judges per Mat 19:28 and twelve names per Rev 21:14 ED O. Jesus Loves You.
Ed, nowhere in Scripture does it say Peter acted hastily, or even imply that. Paul refers to the Apostles as “The Twelve”, whereas his traveling companion, Luke, refers to them as “The Eleven” when there were eleven, and “The Twelve” when they were 12. Scripture seems to authenticate Peter’s action of assigning Mathias to fill Judas’ Episcopate.

Secondly, the Holy Spirit seems to authenticate Peter’s choice as well. IMMEDIATELY after the Apostles delegate Mathias (via the drawing of lots), then the Holy Spirit descends on them and brings in the New Church! God waited until the Twelve were complete before He issues in the new era!

I will enjoy the game (especially if Hardin Jefferson wins!), but I’ll also be thankful for your prayers!

May we always remember to celebrate the things we share in our Faith before we dwell on the differences in our Faith!

Oh really? Do you want to talk about homosexuality?
What about it? — The Bible is very clear, unless they change they will not inherit the kingdom of God 1 Cor 6:10, Rom 1:24-27, Yet, both Catholic as well as some liberal (non-believing Bible Protestant churches) ordain homosexuals as priests and ministers.
How about contraception?
My opinion! ---- Since there wasn’t any restrictions mentioned in the O.T.that I know of, It’s hard for me to believe that God would accept the decisions of a group of men who have never been married to rule on a issue such as this. ---- I’m sure that many Catholics ignore the church’s position on this issue. ---- In the O.T. Duet 24:5 states,“If a man has recently married, he must not be sent to war or have any other duty laid on him, for one year he is to be free to stay at home and bring happiness to the wife he has married.” ---- Again my opinion! ---- I hardly think that this means for them to twiddle their thumbs for a year.
Nearly every major religion has done a flip-flop on contraception since 1930 EXCEPT for the Catholic Church.
That is understandable! ---- More Catholics will be born.
Prior to 1930, every Christian faith condemned it. How many condemn contraception now?
I can’t comment on this because I never heard of it.
Yes, they believed it what was taught and they were saved. Now, I’m not sure if your faith teaches this, but many faiths teach that, once one has acknowledged that Jesus Christ is their Savior, then they are guaranteed to get to heaven.
Why haven’t you noticed this Scripture! ----- Eph 1:13, states," And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having BELIEVED, you were marked in Him with a SEAL, the promised Holy Spirit, Who is a deposit GUARANTEEING our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession – to the praise of His glory." ------ Now this means what it says or tear it out of your Bible. ----- Here’s where you are confussed. ----- Why would a saved person believe the above quoted verse and then ignore this verse 1 John 3:9, “No one who is born of God will CONTINUE to sin, because God’s seed (H. S.) remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.” ----- Allow me to elaborate ----- As per my personal testimony a few posts back, the sins that once controlled me I now vigorously hate, after being filled with the Holy Spirit. ---- Those sins are gone. ---- I don’t want to even think about them anymore. ---- That’s what 2 Cor 5:17 is all about, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” ----- That is what Heb 9:26 means Jesus came to do AWAY with sin. ---- Your next question would be will I ever sin again? ---- Of course I’ll sin again! ---- But hell would freeze over before I would commit any of the sins that once controlled me because now I have the presence of the Holy Spirit within me who’ll fight off the tempations of the devil which I was unable to do so by myself. ---- Here’s a true story. My cousin went to a Catholic rehabilitation center for alcoholics, He was released after about six weeks of a drying out period and counseling and was told to continue to go to the AAA meetings. I went with him to several meetings. After a while he slipped back to drinking again. I knew that he needed Jesus to help him not the support of AAA meetings. Later I took him to the same Catholic Nun who prayed for me to receive the Holy Spirit. We both prayed for him. Later at one of the AAA meetings he told me, “Let’s get out of here because it reminds me of my past.” We did and he’s never once touched a drop of alcohol again. ---- What I’m trying to convey here can’t be taught, it has to be experienced!.
it doesn’t matter if they sin later on because they are saved.
These people never got saved. They may think that they did like Simon in Acts 8.
“Believing” does not mean this. “Believing” means that you believe what Jesus taught and you act in accordance with that Belief. One simply needs to read the NT Epistles to see that all the authors preached to turn away from sin and follow Christ.
I think I explained much of this above. ---- But you are 100% correct! ---- And here’s the Scripture that says so, “1 John 3:6, " No one who lives in HIM (Jesus) keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen Him or known Him.” ----- They are those who think they got saved.
Sadly, many people today don’t equate “Believing” with "Obedience
You are right again! ---- Sadly is the correct word. .
Eph 2:19-20 The church is built upon Prophets and Apostles and Christ is the Head,------ 1Cor 12:28, “And in the church GOD has appointed first of all Apostles” Was Matthias appointed by God? NO! ----- Was Paul appointed by God ? YES! ----- Mat 19:28 states that there will be twelve Apostles judging the twelve tribes. ---- Rev 21:14 Twelve apostles names will be on the gates. Matthias makes thirteen apostles
Secondly, the Holy Spirit seems to authenticate Peter’s choice as well. IMMEDIATELY after the Apostles delegate Mathias (via the drawing of lots), then the Holy Spirit descends on them and brings in the New Church! God waited until the Twelve were complete before He issues in the new era
You could be right! I draw my interpertation from what I quoted above. It really doesn’t matter that much except that there will be only twelve judges and twelve names. ED O. God Bless!

If you think so then explain Sacred Tradition vs. human tradition…----- I’ll listen!.
Sacred Tradition is the Word of God that has been revealed to His people.

In the NT, it is the Word of God that was delivered to the Church by the Apostles.

I cannot explain it better than Scripture does:

1Th 2:13 And for this cause we also thank God without ceasing, that, when ye received from us the word of the message, even the word of God, ye accepted it not as the word of men, but, as it is in truth, the word of God, which also worketh in you that believe.

It is clearly NOT the word of men.
Code:
This has nothing to do with what I believe. ---- The Jews were there. ---- That's why they complained.---- They were mad about something.
You said you believed that Jesus and the Apostles were against traditions, which is not true. If they were, then you must also believe they never washed their hands before eating.
Code:
Well where are they? ---- The RC Church had 2000 years time to compile and publish them somewhere for them to be read. ---- After all, they are the ones who speak about them.
They are contained in the TEachings of the Apostles that have been preserved in the Church.
Code:
"anti-catholic blinders ???? "----- I told you that I consider prejudice to be a sin. ---- That ought to tell you something shouldn't it?
It tells me that you do not realize you are suffering from anti-catholic bigotry.
Code:
For over 300 plus years the Christians got along well with the copies of the churches ( Paul's and others) letters. ---- They didn't need the Catholic church to produce anything. ---- There are over a thousand manuscripts of them on display in various libraries through out the world today. ED O. "Jesus Loves You"
Ed, the Christians that “got along” were all Catholics, and the reason they needed a canon to be produced is so that there could be consistency, and unity of doctrine.

Yes I agree because it directly concerned salvation but since then there weren’t any other issues that came up concerning salvation.
If this is true, why did the Church find it necessary to salvation to combat all those early heresies? Why not just let everyone interpret things as they please, instead of standardizing and dogmatizing? Why define a canon at all? Why not just let people pick from the 400+ manuscripts floating about claiming to be inspired?
Code:
I understand what you say here, yes the world does change but isn't the Holy Spirit capable of guiding the church.
You seem to be proposing that the HS would guide the church differently than He did in the beginning, or that He would depart from the structure established by Christ?
The Apostles taught that there are some aspects of salvation that are completed (such as baptism), some that we are presently working out, and some that are not completed in this life. One cannot derive an Apostolic understanding of salvation by gleaning verses individually. All the references are to be taken together, along with the Apostolic Teaching. taht is how to read and understand the bible.
Code:
Again I respectfully disagree with you. You assume that Jesus meant successors but nowhere in the Bible does it mention of any.-----
What does your bible mean when it says “let another take his place” in Acts, when a successor was chosen for Judas?
However; in Mat 28:19 Jesus makes it very clear when He commands to make DISCIPLES (not successors) of all nations.
Indeed not. The successors of the Apostles are those with whom the authority rests. Jesus did not intend to make “all nations” into authorities.
The people of all nations are the disciples. It doesn’t take much to understand the simplicity of the gospel in order to be saved. So one disciple makes another disciple then to another then nations are discipled up to the presernt day.
Certainly we all have responsibility to make disciples. We do that under the authority of the Apostolic "Succession.
Code:
Jesus filled that office when He called Paul.
How is it, do you suppose, that all the Apostles and their disciples understood it differently.
Code:
That's why I contend that Peter acted too hastily when Matthias was chosen, because there will be twelve judges per Mat 19:28 and twelve names per Rev 21:14 ED O. Jesus Loves You.
it is interesting that you feel competent to sit in judgement upon Peter in this matter. I have heard this protest many times. It seems to me that God might have included the fact that this was a “mistake” in the inspired, inerrant record, don’t you think?

How is it that Jesus was so weak and disinterested that He was unable to guide the Apostles in this matter? Why didn’t He reveal to them when they were in prayer that He had other plans? Or is it your contention that they just were not listening?

How is it that His teaching of them was so inept that they did not understand that there should not be 12 of them?

What kept Him from appearing to Peter and the others to stop them? Especially when He must have known that this mistake would influence the Church for the next 2000 years?

What about it? — The Bible is very clear, unless they change they will not inherit the kingdom of God 1 Cor 6:10, Rom 1:24-27, Yet, both Catholic as well as some liberal (non-believing Bible Protestant churches) ordain homosexuals as priests and ministers.
Ed, be careful with what you say, here, for it is VERY misleading. The Church teaches that homosexuality is a sin. If a priest is an active homosexual, then he is doing it against the teaching of the Church. There are priests who have turned out to be gay, but their actions are not condoned by the Church at all.

Some churches have ordained priests and ministers who are active homosexuals and profess their sexual persuasion openly. By moving these people to a position of bishop (like the Episcopal church has), the church is condoning it. Other churches have chosen to look the other way in matters such as these.

The Catholic Church continues to call homosexuality a sin. As proof of this, you need to simply look at the numerous Episcopal priests who have left their church and joined the Catholic Church simply because the Episcopal Church condones homosexuality.

except for that whole Onan issue, eh? 😉 It seems God spoke very clearly about that!
That is understandable! ---- More Catholics will be born.
I can’t comment on this because I never heard of it.
A simple Google search can reveal that every Christian Church condemned contraception until the 1930’s. As far as I know, only the Catholic Church has remained faithful to the 2000 year teaching on this issue.

What about it? — The Bible is very clear, unless they change they will not inherit the kingdom of God 1 Cor 6:10, Rom 1:24-27, Yet, both Catholic as well as some liberal (non-believing Bible Protestant churches) ordain homosexuals as priests and ministers.
The Catholic Church does not do it on purpose. It is not permitted. Like pedophiles, they can only get in by disguising themselves.
My opinion! ---- Since there wasn’t any restrictions mentioned in the O.T.that I know of, It’s hard for me to believe that God would accept the decisions of a group of men who have never been married to rule on a issue such as this. -
What you are doing is denying the testimony of history. Jews believed that God’s command to “be fruitful and multiply” did not have any room for interfering with conception.
— I’m sure that many Catholics ignore the church’s position on this issue. ----
You are correct. The vast majority of American Catholics are in rebellion against the Apostolic Teaching on this matter. Many are in a state of mortal sin, and receive the Body and Blood in an unworthy manner. Right doctrine, however, is not defined by those who are disobedient to it, but by God.
In the O.T. Duet 24:5 states,“If a man has recently married, he must not be sent to war or have any other duty laid on him, for one year he is to be free to stay at home and bring happiness to the wife he has married.” ---- Again my opinion! ---- I hardly think that this means for them to twiddle their thumbs for a year.

you are dodging, Ed. The point is that our separated brethren have departed from the Apostolic Teaching.
These people never got saved. They may think that they did like Simon in Acts 8.
Do you honestly believe that saved persons never fall into sin?

If so, do you think that the NT supports this notion?

What you are saying is that, even though they prayed and trusted God,God left them orphaned, and did not lead them into all Truth, as He promised.
Matthias makes thirteen apostles
There were many more than 12 Apostles. The 12 had a special role that the other Apostles did not. Paul was not one of the 12 nor was Barnabas, but they were Apostles.
You could be right! I draw my interpertation from what I quoted above. It really doesn’t matter that much except that there will be only twelve judges and twelve names. ED O. God Bless!

Sacred Tradition is the Word of God that has been revealed to His people.
Can you show me precisely in Scripture where I can find the words “Sactred Traditions”
In the NT, it is the Word of God that was delivered to the Church by the Apostles.
I’m sorry my friend you have it a little mixed up. The Word of God are the letters written by Paul and others. Paul was very concerned that all of his letters were to be circulated among all the churches. He was already concerned about the corruption entering the church. Read Col 4:16, & 2 Pet 3:15. This ought to tell you that Paul would never rely on ORAL traditions which can not be substantiated. By the way the “Church” are the born again believers who recopied those letters and passed them on and on and on for 300 plus years…
I cannot explain it better than Scripture does:
I’ll give you credit for trying!
You said you believed that Jesus and the Apostles were against traditions, which is not true.
Can you show me precisely in Scripture where? ---- And why it’s not true.?
If they were, then you must also believe they never washed their hands before eating
What you say here is nothing else but circular conjecture!
They are contained in the TEachings of the Apostles that have been preserved in the Church.
“Traditions” ---- “Teachings of the Apostles” ----- That sounds very authoritative! ---- But can you give me at least one or two and show me where I may be able to read more of them? ----- Have you read any of them? ----- Since “Traditions” which has been contested for hundreds of years, one would think that the Catholic church would compile and publish them for all to be able to read them.
It tells me that you do not realize you are suffering from anti-catholic bigotry.
This tells me that you are suffering the same bigotry towards me. Isn’t this a Forum where things are discussed or am I supposed to sit back and believe everything you say?
Ed, the Christians that “got along” were all Catholics,
WRONG ! ----What you should have said was that the “born again” believers were “Christians” Read Acts 11:26.
and the reason they needed a canon to be produced is so that there could be consistency, and unity of doctrine
Yes! ----- And a group of these same “Christian” believers who knew true doctrine opposed to false and who attended the Third Council of Carthage in 397 decided the canon.

The Catholic Church does not do it on purpose. It is not permitted. Like pedophiles, they can only get in by disguising themselves.
I’m asking this very respectfully, are you then saying that until these lying priests are exposed that they are allowed to hear confessions, celebrate Mass etc???
What you are doing is denying the testimony of history. Jews believed that God’s command to “be fruitful and multiply” did not have any room for interfering with conception
. Can you show me Scripture proof that the Jews believed in “be fruitful and multiply”----- Denying history ? ----- Yes! ----- By common sense! ----- “to be fruitful and multiply” was given to Adam to start a civilization.----- By “be fruitful and multiply” does that mean to have so many children beyond what you can afford to support? ----- God’s Word also says that a man is worst than a heathen if he doesn’t provide for his children. ---- So which verse are Catholics to believe?
You are correct. The vast majority of American Catholics are in rebellion against the Apostolic Teaching on this matter
. Apostolic Teaching where?
Many are in a state of mortal sin, and receive the Body and Blood in an unworthy manner. Right doctrine, however, is not defined by those who are disobedient to it, but by God
Then why cause the Catholics to be guilty of sin (disobedience to the church) when God commanded Adam to multiply.----- It’s obvious what God’s intention was? ----- That is to have more than two people on earth.
Do you honestly believe that saved persons never fall into sin?
I never implied that, so why ask
What you are saying is that, even though they prayed and trusted God,God left them orphaned, and did not lead them into all Truth, as He promised.
You are saying that not me! ------ I said God appoints apostles 1 Cor 12:28, God called the first twelve. Then He called Paul Acts 9:11 Was Matthias appointed by God ? — NO! — That’s what I’m saying
There were many more than 12 Apostles.
I know that!
The 12 had a special role that the other Apostles did not
Yes! The Apostles that God called.
Paul was not one of the 12
This is elementary do you think that I didn’t know that?
nor was Barnabas, but they were Apostles.
This is not news to me either!— I know that!
If you are able to admit that Matthias was a successor,

He was not called by God.---- Why would I admit that he was God’s chosen successor to replace Judas?
would that change your belief that God never intended successors for the Apostles
Absolutely Not!---- For the reason I stated above and because nowhere in Scripture does it even give a slightest hint of any successors. ---- Disciples like you and me. Yes!. ---- By direct command of Jesus Mat 28:19. ----- If Jesus wanted successors He would have said so and Peter wouldn’t be equating himself to the other Elders 1 Pet 5:1---- He would have been setting up the chain of command. ---- In the O.T. God had appointed priests and High priests. Why would you think that Jesus would be so inept now? ED O.

Hi NotWorthy
I hope that you had enjoyed the game.

except for that whole Onan issue, eh? 😉 It seems God spoke very clearly about that!
Onan issue? Explain.
A simple Google search can reveal that every Christian Church condemned contraception until the 1930’s. As far as I know, only the Catholic Church has remained faithful to the 2000 year teaching on this issue
As I said before, it’s to the Catholic church’s advantage to have more Catholics to be born. ED O. Jesus Loves You

1f this is true, why did the Church find it necessary to salvation to combat all those early heresies?
You seem to indicate that it was the Catholic church who decided the canon.---- Here’s the correct account. ---- Yes! ----- And a group of these same “Christian” believers who knew true doctrine opposed to false and who attended the Third Council of Carthage in 397 decided the canon.
Why not just let everyone interpret things as they please, instead of standardizing and dogmatizing?
The born again believers weren’t not concerned about interpretation, the concern was about false letters surfaced. — Therefore the canon had to be established.---- They ( born again believers) knew which letters were true and which were false.
Why define a canon at all? Why not just let people pick from the 400+ manuscripts floating about claiming to be inspired?
Your conception as to why the canon had to be decided upon and established is in error.
You seem to be proposing that the HS would guide the church differently than He did in the beginning, or that He would depart from the structure established by Christ?
I have no idea as to what you are talking about here???
The Apostles taught that there are some aspects of salvation that are completed (such as baptism), some that we are presently working out, some that are not completed in this life.
You are directly contradicting Holy Scripture. Peter preached a sermon and 3000 people got saved.---- Nothing else to work out! ----- Nothing else to be completed in a future life.
One cannot derive an Apostolic understanding of salvation by gleaning verses individually. All the references are to be taken together, along with the Apostolic Teaching. taht is how to read and understand the bible.
That’s your conception.------ Apparently you ignore what Jesus says in Mark 16:15 that is, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned/” ---- Do you believe this?
What does your bible mean when it says “let another take his place” in Acts, when a successor was chosen for Judas?
Where does it say that Peter had to do it?---- Doesn’t Jesus have that right to replace Judas?
Indeed not. The successors of the Apostles are those with whom the authority rests. Jesus did not intend to make “all nations” into authorities.
Jesus said to make Disciples. ---- That means when a disciple is made, he in turn makes a disciple, he then makes another disciple, that being done eventually fills the nation with disciples up to the present day
Certainly we all have responsibility to make disciples. We do that under the authority of the Apostolic "Succession
Can you show me where in Scripture does it say that?
How is it, do you suppose, that all the Apostles and their disciples understood it differently Here! to be honest you have me confussed.
I have no idea whatsoever what you are talking about??? Zilch Nothing??? No Idea???
it is interesting that you feel competent to sit in judgement upon Peter in this matter. I have heard this protest many times.
Then what is your answer?
It seems to me that God might have included the fact that this was a “mistake” in the inspired, inerrant record, don’t you think?
What would you expect God to do kick Matthias out? ----- He wasn’t causing any problems. ----- Was it in God’s plan? ----- Not according to 1Cor.12:27.
How is it that Jesus was so weak and disinterested that He was unable to guide the Apostles in this matter? Why didn’t He reveal to them when they were in prayer that He had other plans? Or is it your contention that they just were not listening
?
It could be! ---- It says they prayed and the lots fell to Matthias.---- Why both? ---- Isn’t praying enough?
How is it that His teaching of them was so inept that they did not understand that there should not be 12 of them?
Let’s stop going in circles.
What kept Him from appearing to Peter and the others to stop them?
When you get to heaven you’ll have to ask Him yourself, because I have no idea why?
Especially when He must have known that this mistake would influence the Church for the next 2000 years?
How does it ??? ED O.
