Fortunately I do not have to connect the dots between one of the men or angels that appeared to Abraham with the one angel who is called YWYH and who was with Lot when he rained down fire and brimstone from the YWYH out of heaven.

Justin Martyer connects the dots in his Dialogue with Trypho in the last half of
Chapter LVI.

Irenaeus connects the dots in his Against Heresies, Book III, Chapter VI.

Micah,
I appreciate the links. 🙂 The discussion is going deeper.

It has everything to do with the two verses that precede it. Abraham saw the pre-incarnate Son of God as a man, or a messenger of God as these early church fathers explain it, and this ‘man’ or messenger of God is called YWYH in Genesis 19:34 and of course we know that the sacred name means I AM Who AM.

**Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.”

“You are not yet fifty years old,” the Jews said to him, “and you have seen Abraham?**
I believe my past posts will show that I’ve never argued that God the Son did not appear in the Old Testament.

And I think the post by Anna brings up a relevant discussion topic.

My only purpose in pursuing the Christophanies, or Theophanies of the pre-incarnate Son of God is to show how they relate to what Jesus said about himself as recorded in the NT. At the same time, they prove that the transcendent God the Father is not YWYH that appeared to the patriarchs. Thus, the difficulty of trying to explain the Trinitarian concept of God as it relates to the Jewish concept of Messiah. It is a mystery of faith which can not be proven logically from the scriptures.

So I need not say anything more regarding the theme of this thread.

Tomdstone,

Do you really want to cast this stone, considering all the terrible things Christians have said and done to the Jewish people for the last 2000 years?

Anna
Why is this casting a stone? It is a simple fact that Jews constitute about 2% of the US population, and yet of all US recipients of the Nobel Prize between 1901 and 2012, 36% were Jewish. 26% of US Law Professors are jewish. Similarly with other professions. So are they not smarter than others?

The topic was jewish criticisms. How to answer the criticism that gentiles are not as smart as jews?

I gave an answer before, but I shall give a more blunt one now:

“Stop being a racist dunderhead.”

I didn’t know that on this thread we were restricted to the specific set of criticisms mentioned in the first post. The title to the thread does not indicate such a restriction. If there is no interest, then I won’t say much more about it, but anyway here is a link showing that I did not make this up.
