How was Christmas Mass?

In most Communion sets there are subtle differences, usually the number of stripes incorporated into the embroidery. I’ll see if I can find a picture.

Right, generally when there was a distinguishable difference between a dalmatic and a tunicle, the dalmatic had two stripes and the tunicle had one. It was often the case that the dalmatic also had more embroidery.

However, it evolved into the case that the dalmatic and tunicle were exactly the same thing, which both ended up being what would have been considered a dalmatic when differences were popular. But you can still buy Solemn Mass sets in which the dalmatics and tunicles are in fact different.

Wonderful!

Midnight Mass at Holy Innocents at Midnight!
Pre music program followed by procession and blessing of the Nativity manger creche scene. Proclamation of the Nativity sung in Latin followed by Mass as usual. Superb homily on the word made flesh that dwelt among us. Sumptuous festive Reception afterwards with news of a birth!

Hours later in the morning I served two Masses at two different churches. The first Mass was the Mass at Dawn. Though it was sung Mass It was just me serving alongside the MC. Other servers were on vacation and/or physically impeded with arms in cast. At the second Mass it was the Mass during the Day with myself acting as MC.

At all these Masses I was humbled by the true meaning of Christmas and was dearly privileged to welcome the Christ Child in the Eucharist.

Adeste fideles,
Laeti triumphantes;
Venite, venite in Bethlehem;
Natum videte,
Regem Angelorum:

Refrain:
Venite adoremus,
Venite adoremus,
Venite adoremus Dominum!
  1. Deum de Deo,
    Lumen de lumine,
    Gestant puellae viscera;
    Deum verum,
    Genitum, non factum:
    Refrain
  2. Cantet nunc hymnos
    Chorus angelorum,
    Cantet nunc aula caelestium:
    Gloria, gloria,
    In excelsis Deo!
    Refrain
  3. Ergo qui natus
    Die hodierna,
    Jesu tibi sit gloria;
    Patris aeterni
    Verbum caro factum!
    Refrain
Ang Pasko ay sumapit
Tayo ay mangagsi-awit
Ng magagandang himig
Dahil sa ang Diyos ay pag-ibig
Nang si Kristo ay isilang
May tatlong haring nagsidalaw
At ang bawat isa
Ay nagsipaghandog ng tanging alay

Bagong taon ay magbagong-buhay
Nang lumigaya ang ating bayan
Tayo’y magsikap upang makamtan
Natin ang kasaganaan

Tayo’y mangagsi-awit
Habang ang mundo’y tahimik
Ang araw ay sumapit
Ng Sanggol na dulot ng langit
Tayo ay magmahalan
Ating sundin ang gintong aral
At magbuhat ngayon
Kahit hindi Pasko ay magbigayan

😮 I saw the music program for Holy Innocents, fantastic.

Well yes, but that is what a straw-subdeacon is, a non-ordained man filling in the position. And though they are only used in the EF Mass, I could not help but consider their use in the OF as well. Since the position has aleays been the exception rather than the norm, I would not see it as a serious liturgical abuse if use in such a Mass as one done at Christmas, just one that has some precedent with roots in the EF, and leave it at that. But that is my take on it.

According to that article, unless your son is an instituted acolyte (instituted by the bishop, not just an altar server), he shouldn’t be a “straw subdeacon” at all.
