Well, for satan, being apart from God is exactly what he wanted…IMO, he got the best of both worlds when he fell, since he has not banished to hell yet, even tho its been 1000s of years since he fell, all the while, hes still able to go on influencing humans, getting tangled in world events and politics, causing problems wherever he can…??? I dont understand this, why in the world didnt God just turn him to dust right there on the spot?!Satan wanted to be apart from God, and so God will grant an eternity without feeling God’s presence. I can not think of a worse punishment.
Do they? This is a genuine question, and not a criticism, as I’d always understood that the people in hell choose to be there and that they then have any leftover goodness, or humanity, burned away, for want of a better description. I’m sorry it’s off topic, but I am curious to the answer now.but he doesn’t appear to long for God as all those in Hell do.
Well, according to the diary of Saint Faustina, "Longing for God " is one of the punishments that the souls in hell undergo.Do they? Sorry, you are right. Longing for God is for the souls of purgatory and the loss of God is one of torments in Hell. Sorry againHiThank you for answering. I understood that Sister Faustina said that one of the tortures of Hell was loss of God, and another was despair and hatred of God. Is longing for God one of the tortures of Hell too, or was that Purgatory?
I haven’t read the Diary of Sister Faustina in all honesty… though I do have the Devotion to the Divine Mercy booklet so I may have misunderstood completely… if that was even where I got the info from.
I’ve thought that God offered humans free will and original sin, so that we could have lives with meaning and actual human drama. Who needs love when there are never any problems? I mean really it’s nice to sit out in a meadow and watch bunnies and butterflies, but all day every day? Maybe God wanted to give his little galactic terrarium a few weeds to break up the monotony for both Him and His creation. :knight2:Well, for satan, being apart from God is exactly what he wanted…IMO, he got the best of both worlds when he fell, since he has not banished to hell yet, even tho its been 1000s of years since he fell, all the while, hes still able to go on influencing humans, getting tangled in world events and politics, causing problems wherever he can…??? well, for those that end up in Hell, I doubt the loss of God would effect them that much, what about the ones who lived their entire earthly lives without knowing God at all…? They wouldnt know God to begin with, so doesnt make sense they would ever grieve loosing him.Sorry, you are right. I think this is one of them, here:well, for those that end up in Hell, I doubt the loss of God would effect them that much, what about the ones who lived their entire earthly lives without knowing God at all…? They wouldnt know God to begin with, so doesnt make sense they would ever grieve loosing him.
Really, if the people in Hell truly dont want to be around God or any part of him, then hell is where they want to be, and may not really be suffering for them in this regard.
Yet Jesus tells us in Matthew 13:12 [and it was said more than once] that even what that person has will be taken away… so I wonder, what does that mean? We know we are made in the image of God, so we can suppose that this part will be taken away… but what else? Probably enough to make that soul feel lacking. I think the soul will regret having any part taken away as they won’t be intact-- they probably suppose that they own every part of themselves. This could perhaps be what the ‘torment’ in the loss of God means. There were other sufferings of hell mentioned by Saint Faustina though I don’t know what they all are.well, for those that end up in Hell, I doubt the loss of God would effect them that much
Interesting… yet if a soul never knew God beforehand [rejection is another matter entirely], how much guilt of sin does that soul have? …though when we talk about not knowing God beforehand, don’t we all generally get the opportunity to know God to some degree?.. And why then would these souls choose hell and separation once they’d be made aware that there is a God who loves them? If they were to choose hell after this, well… that’d probably be the same result as above.what about the ones who lived their entire earthly lives without knowing God at all…? They wouldnt know God to begin with, so doesnt make sense they would ever grieve loosing him.
