How will Satan be punished?

I know that he will end up in the lake of fire but he doesn’t appear to long for God as all those in Hell do.

I know all the sins of the world will add to his Hell but will he suddenly realise what he has done and long for God for eternity or will he just rage forever?

Thanks.

Satan wanted to be apart from God, and so God will grant an eternity without feeling God’s presence. I can not think of a worse punishment.

Don’t we typically believe that he has perfect understanding of what he has done? And did before he made his decision. In other words, there shouldn’t be any sudden realization, right?

I also suspect he wants all the sins in the world and it won’t add to “his hell” in any sort of suffering sense for him.

Well, for satan, being apart from God is exactly what he wanted…IMO, he got the best of both worlds when he fell, since he has not banished to hell yet, even tho its been 1000s of years since he fell, all the while, hes still able to go on influencing humans, getting tangled in world events and politics, causing problems wherever he can…??? I dont understand this, why in the world didnt God just turn him to dust right there on the spot?!

I have to assume that humans who die in a state of sin, also get the same treatment, and are not immediately sent to their punishment…right? I mean, if the absolute worst sinner of all time gets 1000s of 'free’years were he is still able to do what he wants basically, wouldnt God treat humans the same, or even better, since he claims to love us more than the angels.

Satan and the evil it systematically organized very sophisticated and insidious. They used every trick, deceive wiles to attack the church and the children of God on earth, then we do not have a close relationship, tight, attached to Jesus. Because of the strength, power, and authority we have from Jesus and His Spirit is in us when we get closer to God

Do they? This is a genuine question, and not a criticism, as I’d always understood that the people in hell choose to be there and that they then have any leftover goodness, or humanity, burned away, for want of a better description. I’m sorry it’s off topic, but I am curious to the answer now.

Well, according to the diary of Saint Faustina, "Longing for God " is one of the punishments that the souls in hell undergo.

Hi 🙂 Thank you for answering. I understood that Sister Faustina said that one of the tortures of Hell was loss of God, and another was despair and hatred of God. Is longing for God one of the tortures of Hell too, or was that Purgatory?

I haven’t read the Diary of Sister Faustina in all honesty… though I do have the Devotion to the Divine Mercy booklet so I may have misunderstood completely… if that was even where I got the info from.

Sorry, you are right. Longing for God is for the souls of purgatory and the loss of God is one of torments in Hell. Sorry again :).

I’ve thought that God offered humans free will and original sin, so that we could have lives with meaning and actual human drama. Who needs love when there are never any problems? I mean really it’s nice to sit out in a meadow and watch bunnies and butterflies, but all day every day? Maybe God wanted to give his little galactic terrarium a few weeds to break up the monotony for both Him and His creation. :knight2:

We don’t know the mind of God – I don’t think anyone doubts He could have created a world with no evil if He so chose. If they do, then they are saying that God is not omnipotent. Jesus told us the world just keeps getting worse. And yet the fruit of the spirit can be ours, and He gives us His peace that takes us through times of worldly comfort and turmoil both. So as the world gets worse, we simply rise further above the world so as to be “in the world but not of the world.”

Roses smell best when they get good fertilizer. The Good News is the seed that grows in the fertilizer that life offers us, so that we may thrive and be born of the spirit into the kingdom, without even having to wait for heaven! Use evil as an exercise machine to learn unconditional agape love. Love that isn’t tested and purified in fire isn’t, well, tested and pure. That’s why we should rejoice when others put us down and love our enemies. They are out spiritual sparring partners – without whom we cannot achieve our Black Belts in being united with Him with all our mind, strength, and hearts.

well, for those that end up in Hell, I doubt the loss of God would effect them that much, what about the ones who lived their entire earthly lives without knowing God at all…? They wouldnt know God to begin with, so doesnt make sense they would ever grieve loosing him.

Really, if the people in Hell truly dont want to be around God or any part of him, then hell is where they want to be, and may not really be suffering for them in this regard.

I think this is one of them, here:

Yet Jesus tells us in Matthew 13:12 [and it was said more than once] that even what that person has will be taken away… so I wonder, what does that mean? We know we are made in the image of God, so we can suppose that this part will be taken away… but what else? Probably enough to make that soul feel lacking. I think the soul will regret having any part taken away as they won’t be intact-- they probably suppose that they own every part of themselves. This could perhaps be what the ‘torment’ in the loss of God means. There were other sufferings of hell mentioned by Saint Faustina though I don’t know what they all are.

Interesting… yet if a soul never knew God beforehand [rejection is another matter entirely], how much guilt of sin does that soul have? …though when we talk about not knowing God beforehand, don’t we all generally get the opportunity to know God to some degree?.. And why then would these souls choose hell and separation once they’d be made aware that there is a God who loves them? If they were to choose hell after this, well… that’d probably be the same result as above.

A little more context:
11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12 Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 13 This is why I speak to them in parables:

“Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand.

He’s talking about the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom – that weird place where the first is last and the greatest is one who serves. Once those kind of things start to “click together” and we are born of the spirit, into the kingdom, things make more and more sense. The paradoxes of Jesus starts to seem reasonable.

But if we think we know something, then we don’t. I’ve also seen other translations that what they “think they have will be taken.”

Many references suggest that an academic approach to following God will not yield good results.

1 Cor 8:1b-2
“all of us have knowledge”; knowledge inflates with pride, but love builds up. If anyone supposes he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. "

So here then we must be talking about academic (head) knowledge. So specifically I say the knowledge of the kingdom is what makes the parables accessible – the kind of “nondualistic” thinking required to break out of the illusory thought and behavior cages we’ve accepted from society which may not be so healthy. Parable is a story that refers to a worldly paradox, that only makes sense once we acquire kingdom vision.
