How would a Daycare implement "Work to Rule" action?

My kids’ daycare union filed a "no board’ report 17 days ago. As of midnight tonight, they are in a legal position to strike. I spoke with the director of the daycare and she told me that it is very unlikely that the daycare workers will actually go on strike, but very probable that a ‘work to rule’ action will be implemented.

How can a daycare implement ‘work to rule’? Would it be things like not changing diapers when they are soiled, etc.?

I have no idea how a daycare can implement ‘work to rule’. How would it affect my kids?

Thanks

A simple example would be if the worker is usually allowed a 30 minute break for lunch, but she always eats quickly and then continues working because she is industrious, well, she won’t do that. She will sit there eating and taking a break for the full 30 minutes.

All contractual obligations will be carried out. All the extra little things workers do, like fix the photocopier themselves instead of calling a repairman, will not be done.

You are dealing with daycare, though. There are only so many things that could morally be left undone (like photocopiers).

lol

I am just asking for people’s general knowledge, not legal advice 🙂

They’ll most likely work exactly what they are scheduled instead of all the extras. When my mom and sister worked at a daycare, they were scheduled 40 hours. But both worked well over 50. They did not get paid for that extra time. It was really bad for my mom, she worked from 7am to 4pm plus another hour for lesson planning (she was the kindergarten teacher).

So in your case, I would guess that they’ll work 8 hours and that will be it. Things will not run well during this time. Honestly if I were you, I’d find a new daycare.

only problem is that it provides before and after care to my 2 kids at their school, so I’m kinda stuck right now.

but you’re right, I’m not impressed with this situation.

Thanks for the info

One of the moms was afraid that they may refuse to change diapers outside of schedulled diaper changing for the babies.

Oh dear. Maybe ask the daycare workers?

They won’t do that. In order for a ‘work to rule’ protest to work the employees have to be PERFECT, as in, follow the written letter of the company’s policy and all applicable laws to a tee. If diapers went unchanged there would be legal issues in addition to just being terminated.
