How would you ask someone out at school?

And understand, that whether you are the boy or the girl, the first time is likely to be along the lines of, “VirginiawouldyougotothemovieswithmeonSaturday”, a deep blush, a look of terror, and torn between paralysis and runningawaybutyourfeetdon’twork, and then standing there while time slows to a crawl as she turns to him in slow motion as he desperately prays to be struck by lightning, hit by a car (even though they’re in the cafeteria), or whatever, but it doesn’t happen.

And it’s probably similar for her . . .

After a couple of these, it gets a lot easier . . .

(I had the advantage of being at an all boys school, asking a gal from an all girl’s school, at a time that there was a phone extension in a room where I could have privacy.)

Trust me, neither of you will die.

You just have to do it.

Again, you’ll survive.

And whichever role you’re in, please be graceful and courteous to the other. And if your the gal that gets asked, understand that it’s the hardest thing he’s ever done, so if you do decline, do so gracefully!

(I had a friend who having been laughed off, never tried again.)

Your son sounds like yes getting a fabulous education! Someday I’d love to know what resources you have culled on your own! We use a set curriculum for language arts & have pieces together our own math and science… but I’m always curious what other people are doing. Tweaking our coursework to make it more relevant to my kids is my favorite hobby. 😁🤓

The education is more diffuse than I’d like sometimes — that is why it takes us longer to get through texts — but being able and willing to go off on tangents, in search of new information and knowledge, is important too. We use Holt McDougal texts for literature, the Story of Civilization from TAN for history, Apologia and Glencoe for science, Fisher for math, and a combination of “Heads Up Philosophy”, the Angelus Press “Preparation for Confirmation” (SSPX), and free-ranging discussion of moral and ethical dilemmas for religion and philosophy (which I treat as a single class). We go out and get other resources as needed or desired.

Many religious, moral, ethical, and philosophical subjects get discussed during our near-daily “off-campus” lunch trips to McDonald’s and other eateries of choice. Things like that don’t happen in regular day schools.

My son wants to go to community college the first two years — he is not a particularly strong student, our means are modest, a four-year degree may not be the best choice for him, and their prerequisites are very lenient.
Your son that you imagine in Science Po in a few years? 🤔 🙂

Good grief. Youth is wasted in the young

OP, I have two daughters. One is 18 and one is 22. I know that of which I speak

While you’re discerning your vocation, she’s out dating someone else.

That would take a miracle. I was just talking “in the blue sky”.

I did have a friend whose daughter went to the Sorbonne, though. The daughter was a UK (ergo EU at the time) citizen through her father. She was a much stronger student than my son is.

To already study in any university outside the counntry, the continent and in a foreign langage is already an exploit in itself! … without mentionning Science Po where a lot of work is need!
