How would you react if the new Pope took the name Peter?

Well, that would be one way to put all of this controversy about the supposed prophecy of St. Malachi to an end…have someone be Peter II, and then have many more popes come after him.
 
If he chose the name Peter, I would call him Pope Peter II, with honor.

However, personally, I’m rooting for the name Pius XIII.
 
I would seriously consider that the Church knew a thing or two - as Cardinal Ratzinger took the name Benedict which matched in with the Malachy prophecies.

I would then start hoarding supplies and batten down to weather the Tribulation.

We may not know the day or the hour, but perhaps we might be approaching the year or the decade?

I wouldn"t fall for the End of the World sstuff - To me the end of the world is when I draw my last breath. We enter the Eternal Moment then. But there is an interesting twist since one of the prophecies says that duri;ng the reign of Peter the Roman Rome will be destroyed. That seemed like the ;usual Apocalyptic stufrf until * heard that North Korea set off a nuclear weapon and recalloed that they got the know how3 from the Pakistani
Intelligence that was proabably responsable for killing their President and has extremist
connections that protected Osama ben Laden. So what if the Koreans return the favor
and get a Nuke to Europe and set it off in Rome.* What do we do then? This could be a whole new Thread. I had once seriously thought of writing a novel about what happened after Hitler decided to destroy the Vatican when he saw the end coming. It is a

Actually, no matter what name the next pope takes, if any popes come after him, it will put the Malachy prophecy to rest!

I think it’s a very sweet notion, but he had a dream and wrote down what he dreamt about and somehow that became known as prophecy.

I figure that the world will end the day I die, for me at least.

They arent real. They are forgeries. He had been dead something like 300 years when they were “discovered”

Considering the emphasis on the New Evangelization I can it more likely Paul VII or like someone else mentioned, two names …
 
Considering the track record of doomsday prophecies… I don’t think my reaction would be any different than if the new Pope took the name John-Paul, Leo, Pius, or any other name.

Don’t think I hardly notice if Peter was the name after all it was a name to one of the disciples and on this rock build my church stuff and I don’t think I would even blink

how would you react however if Judas was the name:thumbsup:👍
 
As a laugh. He should take the name Pope Petra… Or is it Petrous? Well. which ever one the followers of ppl like jack chick etc get a bee in their bonnet over.

Actually, I don’t think anyone ( on this thread at least) said that they think the next Pope will take the name Peter. The question that was asked was, "How would you react if the new Pope took the name Peter? Many have no problem with it. For some reason, perhaps because we are in the year of Faith, the name Peter came to my mind as well, but I don’t put too much trust in that sort of thing. Whatever name the pope chooses is fine with me. I have no hopes or fears if the next pope chooses the name Peter.
