**Hubby is military. He was infantry but switched over to firefighter (airforce trade). Now he needs to get trained.

When he first put in for the transfer the course was only 3 or 4 months long. After he got accepted they decided to switch it to an 8 month long course. (I have posted about this before but just going over the details again).

So he was originally supposed to go for training either in September or October. I was freaking out. Then he was told those courses were all filled up so don’t expect to go anytime sooner than next year. I breathed a sigh of relief.

Then, last Thursday they said “you’re going on October’s course and you leave Monday”:eek::eek:. With a little rearranging he got that switched to next Monday. But either way it is sooo little time to prepare for his long absence.

He will be able to come home for Christmas and we’re hoping some other short breaks in there, but essentially he will be gone from home until June. He has NEVER been away from Lily and he is so sad. Very excited about the new job but very sad about leaving home for 8 months. And no, we don’t go with him (unless we paid for accommodations out of pocket, which is impossible).

I know we will all make it through. But for now I am stressing big time. If I wasn’t so ill (Fibromyalgia) I would be a lot less worried. But he is my caretaker and my co-parent. He does so much around here that this is going to be a huge challenge for me. So please please keep us in your prayers. I am not looking forward to a long cold winter as a sick single mom.:(**

Prayer.

Call your Parish and let them know that you need some help.

Make sure DH has a web cam so the three of you can visit every day!

He is trying to find out what kind of resources the base there has… we wanted to get him a laptop for the course but we can’t afford it right now:(**

Our prayers and thoughts are with you. While we cannot physically come there to help you, your friends here at CAF would be honored to be able to offer you our spiritual support and internet companionship.

You will be fine. 🙂

Remember, your friends here are all praying for you. :yup: :gopray2:

May God grant you His peace.

Malia,

That is the military for you! I will pray for you and you can e-mail me through my “profile” if you want to go off CAF just to “talk”. I can even try and figure out AIM to chat in real time with you.

God be with you and God be with Feanaro, your dh. Of course God be with Lily too!

Brenda V.

Wishing you all the best Malia…I know this won’t be easy for you.

If you feel up to it, consider trying to make a “Lily diary” so that your husband doesn’t feel like he’s missing out on too much.

Just silly stuff like jotting down a cute thing she said one day, saving pictures she drew for daddy, or making handprints with finger paint. That way, when he comes back it wont feel like those few months were completely lost for him, because he’ll have bits and pieces of Lily growing up.

Good luck to you and your husband 🙂

I second the webcam. Maybe you can find a used laptop, a lot of people don’t know what to do with old ones (myself included) so word of mouth might be best. Webcams are often on sale at Staples. They are not hard at all to use with Skype or Windows Messenger.

How far away is he going? Out of province? Just thought if he was within driving or train distance for a weekend trip maybe you could go once a month or something.

You can revive the art of letter-writing, and have Lily send her artwork too, and send photos.

I’ll admit I wouldn’t be thrilled with having DH away for 8 months (even without a baby) but I’m sure your family will become more supportive, and it might give you opportunities to meet and socialize more, take advantage of parish activities, that sort of thing.

Also I found doing 4 yrs of long distance that I began resenting not having him there (he was away for school and work while I went to school close to home) and I would get really grumpy about it. Just keeping in touch every day helped us, and knowing that he is doing this for his family.

Just my random thoughts.

You might try the freecycle organisation in your area? You never know, you might have something that is of use for somebody else, or just maybe there is some computer stuff there…it’s worth a try! But I am sure there will be access to computers and webcams where he is.

I’m so sorry to hear this! It must be really difficult, especially with your health problems. I’ll keep you in my prayers!!
Do ask your parish for help. I’m sure there are people there who would be willing to ‘spell’ you when you need it.

How difficult for you. I will definitely keep you in my prayers.

Aww Malia… I know you are worried and of course you will miss him… but really, you will make it through this! I remember my military days and getting sent away for school when DH was ill.

Praying that God will provide all of the necessary graces (I know He will!) for you to endure the time away from your husband, and to cling to Jesus through your husband’s training.

I also pray that your husband goes through training with flying colors.

((hugs)) Malia! :console:

You will be in our prayers every day. I know how hard this can be. I have lived through separations with hubby and with a military daughter (two deployments to the Middle East). I know email can help so much so I hope and pray that you get that resolved to your advantage. Prayer and bible study were my life-line. I also came on CA all the time. We will be here for you- any time of day or night. I know God has a plan for you that will help you through this.

I am very sorry to hear about that…I can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like to be without your husband for such a long time…My prayers are with you but know this that I thank you, my family and I thank you and your husband for your love for humanity and this country, for your sacrifice and his. May God bless you and bring him home soon…

**Thank you for all of the support and prayers everyone, they mean so much to me.

I am beyond frustrated right now. He leaves on Monday and so far has spent at least a portion of everyday this week having to go in and do stuff on base even though this is supposed to be his time off to spend with us. And tomorrow and Friday he will have to be there most of each day as well..**
**
Hopefully nothing will ruin our plans for dinner out this evening. It’ll be a combination farewell dinner as well as “celebrating” my birthday. But I feel way too sad to celebrate. We made plans to have dinner on Monday, got all dressed and made up, got to my favorite restaurant only to discover that they are closed on Mondays.:(**

The stress and no rest has kicked my fibro into a flare up and I feel awful…

Aw Malia, I wish I lived close to you!!!

Happy Birthday!!!

I pray that your Fibromyalgia gets better and stays without flaring up much while he is gone. You have my prayers, please know we want to be here for you if things get tough and give you whatever “long distance support” we can.

**I second lifeisbeautiful’s comment…too bad we don’t live closer. Praying for you Malia–when feeling despair, pray one decade of the Rosary…silently to yourself. It helps always to ask Mary at that very moment, to bring calm into a difficult situation. I don’t have fibro, and I wouldn’t want my husband to leave for 8 months!! 😦 I remember when he went on a trip for two weeks, and I was so sad…but I prayed for strength, and we managed. But, it’s ok to miss him–and I like the webcam ideas very much, from the poster who suggested that. I know this must be so hard. But, you are a strong woman, Malia…and God will carry you through, on those days when you are not feeling like you can manage…I just know it.

God bless, and please accept my cyber hug. Happy birthday, by the way.🙂 **

Hang in there, Malia. My husband was mobilized 3 1/2 weeks ago. I have to say the 2 months before he left was by far more stressful than it’s been since his departure. I’ll keep you in my prayers!
