Chavez was a tyrant and a criminal that stole billions of dollars from his fellow countrymen and used the resources of his country to prop up dictators and despots around the world. I don’t believe the story about Chavez dying in the bosom of the church. This could be just more leftist propaganda.

If he did then he should have publicly renounced his many sins and his many crimes before his death. There is no evidence to suggest he did that.
Yes, this. I am truly confused at the apparent efforts of some here to embrace the idea of Chavez dying in the “bosom of the Church” when, in this same forum, I have seen people argue that, per Church teachings about the age of accountability, 7-year-olds can be in Hell. I’m all for God’s mercy and the power of contrition, but cannot understand how that mercy could be given so freely to a notorious dictator and not to a small child.

I.
And how many nuclear bombs did he order to be dropped on Japan ?

And how much saturation bombing of Vietnam did he order to be carried out ?

And how many deaths of the innocent is he responsible for in Iraq ?

And did he have a CIA to assassinate politicians of other countries whom he disliked , and to prop up dictators and despots around the world ?

Chavez didn’t do any of those specific things you charge but he did prop up evil dictators around the world (Castro brothers, Iranian president and other assorted world leader/villains). The fact that a US president may have done those things doesn’t lessen the sins and crimes that Chavez committed during his life despite his “social justice” sloganeering. Crimes that you seem unwilling to acknowledge.

The fact that some Catholics are already trying to whitewash Chavez’s reputation is repugnant and disgraceful.

If you want to attack US presidents then I suggest you start a new thread and see how much support you get here on the forums.

I believe that people who have had NDE’s or seen hell, have reported there are no children there.

I am not interested in getting support . I am interested in the truth .

Because a notorious dictator can still repent and be reconciled to God with his last breath, as can a seven-year old child. If the story is NOT true, then it’s leftist propaganda and those responsible will answer for it, but what if it is? Will you be angry over the salvation of one more soul, even if it’s the soul of a notorious dictator?

Even those who worked only one hour received their denarius.

What would happen it Chavez was unconscious and received the Anointing of the Sick and the Apostolic Pardon right before he died?

Oh boy… here we go again. Notorious dictator confesses. Great. Awesome. Hope it’s true.

HOWEVER,

He’s a (MAJOR) public figure. Where’s the public confession required by canon law?

Or is there another reason why it wasn’t enforced?

Danger of death dispenses with all canonical requirements and lifts all canonical penalties, for both the penitent and the minister, which is why even a laicized priest can minister to a person in danger of death.

What I find disturbing is the hatred some Catholics are apparently showing towards a poor sinner’s soul; it’s almost that the unsaid message is that they hope this person went to hell. Hugo Chavez is dead and is now everyone’s equal. And yet, we have some news of a deathbed reconciliation and therefore major hope for the salvation of his soul which is always good news for all faithful.

Catholics ought to have the attitude of the angels, who, as the Lord said, rejoice more over the return of one sinner over a hundred righteous.

It’s not our place to demand someone renounce their sins in public. If it were you on your deathbed, would you like to be forced to read out each and every single sin you have committed? If he received viaticum, we are to presume he received absolution.
