I don’t know how long ago you read that, but that meme has been pinging around on social media since March 21, so I don’t think Hulk Hogan was the author of it. No one who has posted it has credited it to him.
I saw it in a news article, which included an Instagram posted by Hulk Hogan. Perhaps he did not originate it, but in a way, that’s beside the point. I posted it here because I thought there was some value in comparing the bible account of the 10 plagues of Egypt with the present day. Those plagues were intended to show the Israelites (and Egyptians) that the “gods” they worshiped were not really God.

It’s food for thought, and I’m inclined to believe God allowed it for a reason. But I’d be happy to see a vaccine, myself.

I was more of a Rowdy Roddy Piper fan. 🙂 May he rest in peace!

We all love vaccines. Pray hard and long that one will be developed.

Hulk Hogan said…

In three short months, just like He did with the plagues of Egypt, God has taken away everything we worship. God said, "you want to worship athletes, I will shut down the stadiums. You want to worship musicians, I will shut down Civic Centers. You want to worship actors, I will shut down theaters. You want to worship money, I will shut down the economy and collapse the stock market. You don’t want to go to church and worship Me, I will make it where you can’t go to church…
This is the same Hulk Hogan( with the help of Peter Thiel - Paypal) who took down Gawker Media for a sexual video and got was awarded by the courts $115 million plus $25 million in damages in 2016.

I’d take what he says with a grain of salt.

I don’t know anything about the Gawker thing, and this being a religious forum, is probably not something to waste time on, but the comparison made between the plagues of Egypt, and our present day is valid IMHO.

In Scott Hahn’s book “Understanding the Scriptures” Page 135 he says regarding the plagues and the events leading up to the plagues - “God’s message to his people was clear: Israel had to give up the Egyptian gods and worship the one true God.” In the plagues, God actually killed / took away the Egyptian gods. For example, the Nile river was considered a god by the Egyptians (and the Israelites at that time). It made some sense since it was a source of life giving water. But after God turned the Nile river to blood, it became less than worthless, and certainly not something to worship. God “took it away” so it couldn’t be worshiped.

Also, Book of Wisdom 11:15-16 where it refers to the same events:

15 In return for their senseless, wicked thoughts,
which misled them into worshiping dumb serpents and worthless insects,
You sent upon them swarms of dumb creatures for vengeance;
16 that they might recognize that one is punished by the very things through which one sins.

Gawker Media incident was well publicized. I would never see Hulk Hogan as a guru.

That said it is not wrong to wonder or question events. I am sure there are many in the religious community and elsewhere that are questioning this right now. Hulk Hogan just made it public thought.

Is this a warning/chaistement from God? Are we in the end times? Who knows what else can be speculated. Still we have no idea.

What we do know as others have posted is that God is a loving and merciful God and that he tells us that we will not know the time. Other than that we just are called to believe, to trust and to pray that this virus epidemic will be short-lived.

Living in SoCal, I’ve met many people who have yearly Disneyland passes, and go to Las Vegas every weekend (when they’re not at Disneyland). Some of the Disneyland people are in their 70’s with no children or grandchildren (they were DEVASTATED when Disneyland closed) and some of the Las Vegas goers are family folks with young children and teens. Every spare penny, and every spare minute is used in the pursuit of pleasure. Our God is not on their radar. They have no time for our God. Too busy to pray. Too busy to think at all about God.
^This! Super agree with you @ricmat

Also:
Many of the people who push this kind of simplistic retributive thinking are those who have a fire-and-brimstone conception of God, not a loving father conception of God.
But even a loving father must sometimes give his child a slap to make them take fingers away from the hot stove. Better a slap than burned skin.

My concern is the young are not taking this virus seriously. They think it is a disease for old people and the sick and that they are above the fray so why worry? Not that they don’t care but don’t see the potential. They had an awful time even stopping spring break. In China they all wear masks and do temperature checks. Not here.

We live in a fragile world. Once you get the virus, can you get it again and can it be worse.? We can overwhelm our healthcare system and economic system yet the economy needs to startup. My concern also is that we need to get this right because it does not take long for things to go south.

This could be a chastisement allowed by God but we can make it more.

If I’m going to listen to a celebrity senior citizen who lives on the beach it’s going to be Sammy Hagar,

What’s funny is that both Jimmy Buffett and Sammy Hagar are both adhering to the stay at home order and are producing free music online for their fans. Hulk Hogan could learn a few things.
