Human Rights Case Dropped Against Catholic Insight
Is this the end of the persecution of C.I.?
It might be. It might not be. Judicial review of the Commission’s decision is still possible. The complainant has 30 days to bring an application in the Federal Court to review the Commission’s decision.
Fundamental freedoms of religion, expression, and the press are supposedly guaranteed by our Constitution, yet provincial and federal Human Rights Commissions have taken it upon themselves to judge what qualifies as “acceptable” public discourse. This is thanks principally to the vague “hate speech” provision contained in the Canadian Human Rights Act – Subsection 13(1) and subsequent jurisprudence, which makes it a “discriminatory practice” for individuals or groups to communicate messages that are “likely to expose a person to hatred or contempt.”
Is this the end of the persecution of C.I.? I doubt it.

The letter from the Canadian Human Rights Commission, explaining why the case was dropped, stated:
After examining this information, the Commission decided, pursuant to paragraph 44(3)(b) of the Canadian Human Rights Act, to dismiss the complaint because the material is not likely to expose a person or persons to hatred or contempt based on sexual orientation.
"Accordingly, the file on this matter has now been closed.
This sounds like the right decision. Hopefully, the case will serve as precedent for any future charges of a similar nature.

If Canada destroys freedom of speech even further to the point of non-existence so as to become a totalitarian state, I think the US should seriously consider annexation.

Well, that’s nice I suppose but let’s not forget that for months past Catholic Insight has had its finances strained and Msgr. de Valk & his staff have been tied up answering these charges.
The process IS the punishment – even if they drop the matter, as here, the damage is done.

To happen it should happen with the consent of Canadian leaders or even, gasp, referendums.

There are people btw, Americans, who openly advocate the annexation of Greenland. If America is unwilling to drill in the Rocky Mountains and other places where together there is estimated to be more oil than there is in Saudi Arabia, we have to add to our territory for strategic reasons at least until one day in the far future, a one-world confederation of nations exists, one which would espouse the American values of freedom.

Well, I’ve got alot of floor space to house some soldiers 😉 'course, i’m hopin that all y’all will be marching too 👍
Start with Niagara Falls. Once you have that, you’ll have hydro and the Niagara region’s tender fruit crops to stay hydrated

OOps! Maybe we should stay on the topic? (That is, human rights case dropped against Catholic Insight)

Since Greenland is part of Denmark, that might not go over so well in Europe. :o

As for Catholic Insight, I am glad that charges were dismissed. A related case might be that of Alberta Pastor Steve Boissoin, who has just filed an appeal of a Human Rights Commission decision against him for speaking ill of homosexuals.

One difference, however, is that the Alberta HRC declared that Boisson’s words increased the likelihood of hate being directed at gays and lesbians. I guess the opposite was found regarding Catholic Insight.
