Hello, I was in a few conversation with Missionaries from the Latter Day Saints church. [Not face to face, but on the internet] They were talking about how the Indian Warrior, Moroni, died and became an angel to tell Joseph Smith about the plates he stored when all the Nephi people died.

Well, since Humans do not become angels, I told him that, but he wanted me to give proof. So I did, I gave proof of the account in Matthews Gospel about angels cannot marry and such. But apparently, to him. That is not enough proof to say humans do not become angels. Sadly enough, I have to agree with him, that is not enough proof.

Is their any type of theological, philosophical, anything type of proof that humans do not become angels?

Thank you!

If Mormonism were true… shouldn’t Moroni have become a god of his own world and not an angel?

Not to mention, “But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!” (Galatians 1:8)

I would ask for proof that a human became an angel!!

But Hebrews 2 discusses how Jesus came incarnate as a human being in distinction from the angels.

I agree, he is the one making the claim, let him come up with the proof. Otherwise just tell him that last night bigfoot came into your house with Elvis for coffee and they said that humans cannot become angels. 😃

Human messengers of God are called prophets, priests, apostles, disciples, Christians, etc.

Spiritual messengers of God are called angels.

Does your friend know of a human messenger who was/is able to make a man deaf and unable to speak (the way that Gabriel did Zachariah)?

I would like a job of coming back to earth like Doris Roberts as Mrs. Merkle (is that her name?) in the Christmas shows.🙂

Bigfoot doesn’t drink coffee. Your entire posting is in shambles.😉

LOL. I needed that.

Angels are spirits, according to Scripture.

Humans are not spirits, we are thinking bodies. In eternal life, we become resurrection bodies.

We do not become angels. The closest we can get to that is to live in Los Angeles:)

True; I know for a fact that he prefers peppermint tea. Also, he is very shy and wouldn’t be caught dead in the same room with Elvis.

Nice…

Just one among a number of smoked fishes in their repertoire. They wave the red herring before you while demanding that you pay no attention to the man (Joseph Smith) behind the curtain! If they desire proof, how about any evidence - any at all - that even one of the world-changing events in the Book of Mormon actually occurred.

While I will admit that bigfoot is shy, him and Elvis became good friends after they were abducted by aliens together. 😃

yea, the verse you mentioned, says

“For in the resurrection they…are like angels in heaven” Mat 22

it doesn’t say we become angels, but we become like angels,

i don’t think there’s anyplace in NT says we become angels

“for neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection” Luk 20

here it seems to say we become angels,
actually, its saying that with respect to the resurrection we are equal to angels in that we won’t die. Its not saying we completely become angels.

angels don’t sit with Christ on his throne, but Christians that overcome do:
“To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me on my throne” Rev 3

As said before, the burden of proof is on them.

If you want a good philosophical talking point though, have him explain how God is omniscient and yet created us in the materialistic reality. If our endgoal was to become formless/matterless creatures, then he would’ve created us like thus in the beginning. As there are of degrees of being (and God being the highest, perfect degree of being), angels have a higher degree of being then humans but humans were created materially for the reason that time and space is how our being expresses it’s liturgical worship to God. As it is evident that it will be like such forever in a new heavens and a new earth for us to occupy in our glorified state.

Well, we as humans are a body/soul combo pack, an angel is pure spirit(as the bible in many cases will refer to angels or demons as spirits). Since we have the resurrection of the body, we can not become pure spiritual beings
