Hungary Passes New Constitution, which Invokes St. Stephen, Protects Family, Marriage, and Condemns Abortion

Beginning by invoking Hungary’s patron saint, Saint Stephen, this new constitution then praises him for placing Hungary in the line of Christian Europe. Then it acts to protect marriage as the union of a man and a woman and and acts against abortion. The article linked above just begins to show the forces marshalling against this constitution. Other countries of Europe and the instruments of the European union are moving against this constitution. Hungary is more than 60% Catholic.

Pretty much the same with what we have in the Philippines. The Family Code defines marriage as between a man and a woman, not just two people. Divorce is outlawed, and abortion as well. That is why many ABCs are banned because they are abortifacents, such as the morning after pill.

The Church teaches us that religious freedom means that the State shall not impose a state religion on its citizens, nor will the State or any other institution obstruct the free exercise of conscience and faith.

Abortion, euthanasia, same sex marriage are not acts of conscience or faith. There is no religion in the world that presents these acts as essentially good.

However, the Church does say that the State and the private individual may not treat the person with homosexual orientation or the person guity of abortion unjustly. Nor may anyone deprive these individuals of the same rights that other people have: employment, housing, education, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, political expression and participation in the daily life of society.

It is one thing to say that the State cannot impose a state religion and another to say that the state may not enact laws that submit to revealed moral truths. Moral truths are innate to human nature, they transcend religious diversity. The state is not above moral truth, but must always remain open to its guidance.

Many thanks for posting this. I’d have missed it, I’m sure – it won’t be in our national newspapers or TV, I can assure you. Hungary stood up heroically against the Soviet tricks. They had so perfected their technique of taking over a country that it was practically routine – and the West was swallowing their story time after time. Their ploy, older readers will remember, was to set up a dummy group in a country that would duly invite the Soviets in, and simultaneously they would set up a “Phony Opposition” controlled by the Communists themselves. Thus any credible opposition would be stifled. But instead of falling for this and rallying to the Phony Opposition, the people rallied round the heroic Cardinal Minzenty, who made no bones whatever about what the Marxist Revolution really was – a brutal atheistic plan to enslave the world. That forced the Soviets to show their true colours, the velvet glove came off the mailed fist, and the tanks rolled in. There was spirited opposition, but the pretence was dropped. A single sniper on a roof would be met with saturation bombing of the entire building. The Soviets established themselves in Hungary and imprisoned Cdl Minzenty for decades, but they lost forever their facade of a benevolent movement supporting the underdog.
The EU won’t like this new Constitution! Let us offer a prayer for this most heroic and faithful nation.

What a great example for the rest of the world Hungary is! American and the rest of the west could take a lesson from this great country. Of course the forces of evil will make every attempt to punish Hungary for doing this.

If I could humbly suggest, there’s just one more thing that could have been mentioned in the preamble: that King St. Stephen, as soon as he received the Holy Crown from the Pope, he dedicated both the Holy Crown, and the kingdom of Hungary, to Our Lady (“Magyarok Nagyasszonya”, literally “Great Lady of the Hungarians”)! 😃 👍

Our Lady, Magyarok Nagyasszonya, has been the Patroness of Hungary and will be until the end of times! 👍

I really don’t think that we Hungarians should make a secret of any of this, be ashamed of it, or else play to some PC European ideals - Hey, we have been founded as a Catholic nation, and continue to be a Christian, predominantly Catholic nation to this day! 👍

In 1956, my grammar school received a Hungarian family - Catholic, of course.
I was assigned to be her guide. What a faith-filled experience. It surely brought
home to me the realities of Communist oppression.

PS - you know, I’m sure, that your name sounds Hispanic (!).
