I’m not sure I grasp the precise point of disagreement. Are you saying you think it does mean they don’t love their spouse? If you answer yes, which meaning of “love” are you using?

I completely agree, the guy ought to come home at night! Reasonable men don’t go around disappearing with no notice of their whereabouts, and they don’t come back unwilling to explain what happened. No argument.
 
Are you seeing a marriage counseler? I would highly suggest it.
