Our 17 year old daughter has been dating her boyfriend for 3 years now. He’s very sweet, respectful, an all around good kid. We’ve taught her since the day it came up, to wait until marriage. Especially with her being in a 3 year relationship, I do wonder sometimes and get concerned, so I try to mention about once a month the importance of abstaining. I will admit for past year or year and a half she has seemed a little…annoyed by me mentioning that, but I like to think that it’s just because I try to drill it into her head. My husband has mentioned to me that he thinks it’d be best to get her on birth control. We both believe that it’s immoral, and I argued with him, telling him that’s it’s basically a free pass saying “Here ya go, you won’t get pregnant, have fun!” However I do agree with him, I don’t want her to be pregnant if she is sexually active, but if she is, she must be using condoms anyway. I’ve never asked her if they were, because I’m afraid of the answer. I’ve honestly just always done my best to keep my head in the sand and hope that she’s not, which I do regret because it’s not the smartest thing. Anyone have any good Catholic advice?
