Husbands, have you ever had to tell your wife to dress more modestly? How did that go?

I’m just curious how husbands would go about telling their wives to dress more modestly without sounding like an insecure jealous man.

Hubby got very lucky because I dress modestly in the first place.

No. But if my wife ever wore something immodest (she never does) it would go something like this:

Me: Darling, where is the rest of that outfit?

🤣

How about wives telling their husbands to do so? It happens a LOT. Without going into ‘detail’, consider the average, um, “plumber’s crack” seen when hubby’s shirt is a bit too short or the pants a bit too low-waisted and he leans over or kneels. Or hubby likes to wear risqué Tshirts which he finds funny and manly, but everybody else finds veering on pornographic/vulgar/profane.

haven’t noticed what men wear. also men’s clothing is more modest than women’s clothing. so it happens less.

plumber’s crack is almost always unintentional. low-cut tops that show lots of cleavage are intentionally showing cleavage. there’s a difference.

Yeah…I’m pretty sure a man can feel when it’s breezy in his backside. Just because he isn’t trying to flaunt his body—just lazily wearing clothes and not caring–dosn’t make it any more “right”

I’ve never met a man who let his plumber’s crack stay that way. It was just an unintentional mishap

A mishap based on wearing ill-fitting clothes or lack of belt/suspenders.

Just because a woman may say “ooh I like the way I look in this shirt” and a man doesn’t reflect at all doesn’t make the choice any less wrong.

Men don’t get a pass becuase their actions are an accident they can correct.

You’re wrong. If something is unintentional it’s not a mortal sin.

A man may accidentally have plumbers crack and upon seeing it, they’ll correct it. Many women knowingly purchase revealing clothing with the intention to wear it out in public where they can get more attention from guys and girls.

In the history of the world there has not been a man who has done the same with his plumber’s crack.

You now claim to know the “history of the world”

Yeah. Life dosn’t work that way. Men can, and do, dress sloppily on a daily basis.

Also as @darklight has pointed out MANY times, what is seen as “cleavage” is extremely based around body size and form.

I literally CANNOT have cleavage if I tried (at least before kids). I could wear a dress/shirt that was split straight down to my belly button.

Heck, I could probably wear those nipple stickers and STILL not really have “clevage”. I just didn’t have the boobs for it.

But some women WILL have cleavage no matter WHAT they do. The most binding, chest tightening bra and the most well-cut button up professional suit jacket. They have big boobs and WILL have cleavage. They cannot change it.

Also, you have to keep in mind that most cultures are not as puritanistic as America. Many Latina’s clothing is cut and you can see boobs, as well as Italians and a few others.

Not only that, but have you ever experienced “boob sweat”? If you’re a man, most likely the answer is going to be no.

It’s NASTY and can turn into VERY painful chaffing. A well cut shirt that you may call “immodest” because of your cultural perceptions may actually be what is keeping a woman from experiancing an inordante amount of discomfort and even pain.

Yes, men dress sloppily. Not contending that. The issue was whether a man intentionally wills plumber’s crack to happen to attract attention. That’s what I was trying to point out. The history of the world comment was just me trying to exaggerate.

Sure, different cultures have different standards. But there’s a time and place for certain types of clothing too. What’s acceptable at a beach bar won’t fly at Mass. I don’t think it’s proper to wear leggings or short shorts at mass. I’ve seen men dress immodestly at mass too.

I’ve never heard the boob sweat thing though. Interesting.

Are you even married?

You have many views which are really black and white, when life is grey.

We don’t need another “modesty” thread with a plethra of “mansplaing” how women should dress.

These days, I see a lot more plumbers crack on women than I do on men.

I always wear a suit or smart/casual so it’s not a problem for her.
