Hypothetical Dilemma: 7 Billion People will die if you don't shoot the baby in the head and eat its Bodily-Remains

This, as long as we’re playing such silly thought-games. :rolleyes:👍 I wonder what the early Church Fathers would think of questions like this…prolly just sigh and move on. I really don’t mean any offense to the OP, but wouldn’t our mental abilities be better used on questions that , you know, apply to what we live each day?

To cut off a limb to save a life (I’m thinking of the fellow who sawed off his own arm when caught beneath a boulder) is no sin. To cut off one’s limb, or someone else’s just for the heckofit – that’s wrong.
 
The only morally acceptable choice is to not kill the innocent baby.

If it were an adult who had someone wronged the aliens, execution might be a justified response, but certainly NEVER cannibalism.

Humanity ultimately answers to God. So would the aliens. Their genocide of humanity would indeed create 7 billion martyrs.

There is an important distinction. Jesus laid down His life. It was not taken from Him.

He also gave us His Body to eat. As phrased in the Question, the child has no choice in the matter.

What if, in the instance the baby was killed according to the choice provided, that the aliens looked at us and thought, “wow these sick creatures don’t deserve to live” and we’re exterminated for making that choice?

Whoever loves his life will lose it,sound familar OP? Trying to save yourself could very well be your undoing, while offering your own life up could save you. I don’t love my life in this world enough to consume the life of another, let alone one of the most innocent and vulnerable among us. Given the choices, I’ll roll the dice with the extermination choice.

This is just one of those “How many angels can fit on the head of a pin?” type of questions. It’s more or less a theological thought exercise.

Take the aliens to the nearest Centers for Disease Control, and tell them the the stuff in the petri dishes is the best food they’ll ever eat.

First off: if the aliens wanted to blow us up, they would do so already. They haven’t, so they want something. On the other hand, they have brought the weaponry to blow us up.

Second: the aliens want us to kill the child. There is no way aliens can profit from us killing a child. So the situation is about us, not about them.

Third: If it’s about us, then this must be a test of character. Apparently, the aliens want to know how immoral we are. The logical conclusion is that aliens want to wipe out immoral civilazations.

So, the aliens are lying. If we kill the child, we fail the test and they blow us up; if we refuse, they will let us live.

A more likely scenario is whether we would be prepared to shoot at a lorry driver who is unaware that his cargo includes a nuclear weapon which will destroy a city like New York or London… assuming we have don’t have time for any alternative.

I believe we are justified in doing so because our intention is not to kill but to protect. We know he may be killed but that would be a lesser evil than doing nothing to save millions of people from death and suffering - and he would probably agree if he were in our position.

I thought so too.

Think about the question; kill the child and consume its flesh or the human world will perish.

God gave up His Son to save the world. As for the flesh, you can see the meaning.

Jaaanosik noticed the relation too. I didn’t vote.
 
Nobody has rationally explained why killing the child to save the human race is wrong.
