Veritatis Splendor defines cutting a limb with bad intentions as an intrinsically evil act.Cutting your own limb off isn’t an intrinsic evil. Killing a child is.

This, as long as we’re playing such silly thought-games.They must be atheists. Dying is not a bad thing. I’ll take the 7 bl martyr option, pls.
Wow, it seems this proves that God’s logic is different than human one.Bodily-Remains with capital characters.
You are talking about Jesus and God did opposite of what people are voting here.
There is an important distinction. Jesus laid down His life. It was not taken from Him.Bodily-Remains with capital characters.

What if, in the instance the baby was killed according to the choice provided, that the aliens looked at us and thought, “wow these sick creatures don’t deserve to live” and we’re exterminated for making that choice?Spare the child. Who’s to say these aliens wouldn’t wipe us out anyway?
This is just one of those “How many angels can fit on the head of a pin?” type of questions. It’s more or less a theological thought exercise.Instead of me trying to answer such an absurd question and “rationalize” my answer, why don’t you rationalize why this was even put up for question? I’m actually shocked that people are entertaining this.![]()

:clapping:First off: if the aliens wanted to blow us up, they would do so already. They haven’t, so they want something. On the other hand, they have brought the weaponry to blow us up.
Second: the aliens want us to kill the child. There is no way aliens can profit from us killing a child. So the situation is about us, not about them.
Third: If it’s about us, then this must be a test of character. Apparently, the aliens want to know how immoral we are. The logical conclusion is that aliens want to wipe out immoral civilazations.
So, the aliens are lying. If we kill the child, we fail the test and they blow us up; if we refuse, they will let us live.
Nice try. Citation, please?Veritatis Splendor defines cutting a limb with bad intentions as an intrinsically evil act.
Paraphrasing, anyone?Nice try. Citation, please?
(BTW, before you answer, keep in mind that the original suggestion was the cutting off of an appendage in the attempt to save a life. That’s “bad intentions”? In any case, I’m game: please show me where VS says that “bad intention” is the definition of “intrinsically evil act”.)
I thought so too.Instead of me trying to answer such an absurd question and “rationalize” my answer, why don’t you rationalize why this was even put up for question? I’m actually shocked that people are entertaining this.![]()
