I am a Catholic but considering Protestantism

I saw pictures of Pope Francis and other popes doing the satanic symbol of devil’s horns, Kissing the Qur’an, the pope’s hat a symbol of a fish god, and many more things.
When I see things like those^^^ I Immediately close the window. I feel scarred. That’s how Satan starts plucking us away. The images are photoshopped, or fakes. Or symbols were recently devoted to the devil, and the pope probably had no idea.

It’s what Satan does best - perverting the truth, even using God’s own words sometimes. He did that to Jesus by throwing Psalm 91:11 at him when he stood him on the Parapet of Solomon’s Temple. Jesus countered with Deuteronomy 6:16 and won.

Don’t be a blind mole believing everything on the internet, please. 🙂

I am considering just being a christian, who cannot afford to go to a protestant church so I will worship at home. Catholicism doesn’t give me peace. Reading the Bible and praying to God only does.
Lutheran here. And my view is this:
First, it is at least as important to know what you are leaving as it is to know what you are going to. I would strongly recommend visiting with your priest or another priest about your concerns.
Second, Protestant is not a faith tradition. It is a broad category. So when you say you are considering becoming Protestant, you may want to explore a specific tradition.
Third, while faith is a particularly personal thing, Christianity is a communion. We depend and lean on each other. “Where two or more are fathered in my name, there I shall be also”.

But I consider leaving Catholicism due to the lack of Bible reading, Bible preaching, Bible following, Bible, Bible, Bible.

Even this Lutheran knows that the Catholic liturgy is almost entirely Bible.

I love the Protestant approach to the Bible as the supreme authority over all mater of faith.
Well, 1 Timothy states that the Church is the pillar and foundation of truth. There’s no mention of the Bible.

It’s wonderful that you love scripture and studying scripture, hearing good sermons on scripture, etc. In fact, the Church encourages the faithful to read and study scripture. But at the same time, the Bible is not the end-all-be-all of the Christian faith. Ultimately, we worship God, and not a book. I think that’s where some Protestants seem to go overboard.

Try to find resources for Catholic Bible study groups. If you’re having trouble, talk to your priest.

I can relate to some of the ways you feel. I love the bible and sometimes feel too little emphasis is made of it as well. I used to be a protestant (and I still love listening to a good sermon regardless of who it comes from), but I am also fully convicted about my Catholic Faith (I have been Catholic for a little over 12 years now). I currently coordinate all our bible studies for our parish because I believe that is why God called me to the Catholic Church (to get people to read their Bible). I would be willing to start a new bible study if you would like to join with me and study the scriptures verse by verse. I am writing my own bible study on the Gospel of Mark and I am almost finished with it (I have been making it as I go through the Gospel with others in a study I started last summer and that would be the study we do). I have also led my study at a prison that I volunteer at, in hopes of bringing others closer to Christ. I am not a Theologian, nor a scholar or anything special. I am just a common man, who was introduced to Christ through the Bible and became Catholic because of what it said to me.

If you would be interested in joining the study I would be willing to start an online one for you and any others on here who would like to join. Below is the link to it, look over it and see what you think. If you are interested pm me (anyone who is interested, and I will set up a Zoom meeting for us to have the bible study live online - that’s how I am currently leading the other studies since COVID-19 now prevents us from meeting in person). Once we finalized a day and time we can start.

Last of all, keep in mind I am neither here to convince you that you should stay or leave, but I am willing to share with you my journey through the scripture, many things I have learned about it and how the New Connects and is Supported by the Old Testament, which in all honesty, as a protestant, led me to become Catholic. I read several different versions of the bible before I converted because I wanted to know the Truth and receive salvation through Jesus Christ.

Here is the link to my bible study (scroll down past the picture of my Bible and the Catechism, which are actually links to an online version of the Bible and the Catechism),

May Christ give you peace in your heart, Your brother in Christ,

Michael

Its Dangerous to leave something without understanding what it is first. Take this!

These are the early church fathers with dates. Read them, see what the early church thought. Thank me later.

This is a red flag to me. First of all, the Church being a visible structure is not the same as the Church being a building. I read the Bible every day, it led me to become Catholic, not only that, I actually know a lot about history, because I’ve always been interested in it, the early Christians were not Protestants, Protestantism did not exist until 31 October 1517. Go read the early church fathers, read the apostolic fathers, read Clement of Rome, who was a pope in the first century, or Ignatius of Antioch, who wrote about the real presence of the Eucharist in the early 2nd century, this is not Protestantism. Sola scriptura, the way it’s used where I live, is not that different than treating it like a sacrament. Some people read the Bible and come to the conclusion that Jesus is not Divine, does that make them right? The Bible is a very good thing, Sola scriptura is not

The Church is FULL of the Scripture. The Mass has three readings, not to mention the psalms, etc. I have been to Protestant and Evangelical services where there is one reading and then someone tries to tie it in to their everyday lives through stories and anecdotes for the rest of the sermon. There are also daily Bible Readings through the USCCB, etc. The notion that the Catholic Church does not advocate Scriptural study is a falsehood.

Hey, dear Victoria.

I am a former non-denominational, and I returned to the Church due to Church history, Catholic theology and doctrine, lives of the saints and blesseds and through prayer and a lot of thinking.

In Protestantism, there is no authority. Doctrines and teachings are diverse and contradicting, there are countless divisions, schisms and confusion. These divisions and confusion is one of the things that made me doubt Protestantism.

In the Church is authority, and the fulness of truth. The Church can trace Her roots to the apostles, but Protestants can’t go beyond the 1500’s. We believe in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, and we believe that the Holy Spirit guides the Church into all truth.

Please, study the materials of Catholic Answers pray, and speak with priests, catechists and any practicing Catholics.

God’s mercy is unimaginable, and His love is unimaginable. He waits for you, and all those outside His flock to return. If someone told me I would become a Catholic while I was a Protestant last year, I’d be like, what you talking about. But, God never gives up on us. Remember, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Give the Church a chance, study, pray and think. Outside of the Church is chaos and no salvation, so please, return to the Lord while He is still here. We all to be near the Lord. If we want to be Christ’s, we have to be a part of His Body(the Church).

Peace, and please, return to God and His Church so that we, His sheep, may with praises and joy enter His kingdom.

I actually took a gospel class, at an online Catholic college, and it said that Catholics believe in what could be called Prima scriptura , that the Bible has a place of prominence, but not just the Bible by itself. I’m not sure where people get the idea that Catholics don’t read the Bible, because I have found the opposite to be true.

I myself sometimes feel drawn to Islam, and at times to atheism. But my conscience always feels like coming home. I can respect where you’re at but I urge you not to abandon the Church over those feelings.

Dude calm down. You can live your life in spite of it. I was raised protestant, I know the arguments for and against. I chose Catholicism. I strongly recommend you speak with a priest. The Catholic ‘neglect’ of the Bible that you mention is a myth. Just read the mystics like St John of the Cross.

If it’s bothering you this much, you may need professional medical help. Nothing should cause this much anxiety and loss of normal function.

Dude if you don’t understand that everything in Catholicism is an extension of Judaism you are not informed enough to make an adequate decision. Brant Pitre is an excellent Author in this subject.

Jesus Fulfilled the law 2000 years ago, and his teachings remain the same to this day within the Catholic Church. Do not abandon the Truth because you don’t “feel” it. That’s illogical.

That and possibly the Association of Hebrew Catholics. I doubt they’d approve of him trying to leave Catholicism due to a lack of Judaic influence in Catholicism.

@SearchingForTruth1, Truth is Truth. God is Truth. If you leave Catholicism, and you know it’s true, then you’re not going closer towards Him, are you?

I was raised in a Catholic country, in a Catholic family. But I consider leaving Catholicism due to the lack of Bible reading, Bible preaching, Bible following, Bible, Bible, Bible.
It would appear that you have not been paying attention; the Church uses the Bible every day in the two Liturgies; the Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours. And that is not just “studying” it; it is praying it.

And the Church has encouraged, and many parishes have, bible studies; there is a plethora of Catholic theologians who examine and discuss a tremendous amount of the Bible,

And no other Protestant church has all of the Sacraments, most especially, the Eucharist.

It is patently clear you do not know much about the Catholic Church. Before leaving, you might explore further that which you wish to leave.

And not to make too much of a fine point of it, the Catholic Church is responsible for the Bible, as it is the Church which determined what books, letters and Scriptures were to be in it.

The Catholic Church has been around since the Apostles. Every other church can trace its beginnings back to someone who broke off from the Catholic Church, or from someone else who had broken off. Estimates are that there are 30,000+ Protestant churches, so how are you going to choose which one is correct about the Bible and which one is not? Their disputes are over the Bible and a “correct” explanation of it. and some of them have even taken up issues which appear nowhere in the Bible (e.g. the “rapture” groups).

Christ didn’t give us a bible; he gave us the Sacraments. And you want to leave that?

I didn’t mean that I am converting, but am thinking about it. I didn’t mean the Protestantism you would think of. I mean the Protestant who keep the Sabbath on Saturday, use the name Yahveh and Yeshua.
Protestants don’t keep Sabbath on Saturday. They celebrate God on Sunday. Seems more that you want to do a synchretism of Judaism elements with Christianity.

Jews don’t use the name “Yahveh”. In the Bible they are even forbidden to use God’s real name! If all you want is BIBLE BIBLE, why do you want to use it like Jehovah’s withness?

Seems you are influenced deeply by some online videos and are attracted to something vague, because maybe of a sort of “exotism” (jew names etc) that brings you to something that is exotic and esoteric. A sort of mystery because you don’t undertant everything.

It seems it mooves you a lot- but to nowhere because you just envisionned to practice you new faith alone…apart others. But the Bible is clear that we cannot be Christians alone. We need others, the Church to grow spiritually and keep the authenticv faith, tramsmit it etc…
