Just wanted to point out how utterly ridiculous the bible flood story is, and I’m sure you agree with me.

According to the bible flood story it had to rain 725 feet of rain every day for a month and a half. That’s 725 feet, not inches, of rain, every day. In the first hour of this fictional flood it rained 30 feet. Imagine getting 30 feet of rain in one hour, and then having this continue for a month and a half. Pretty silly.

Well not to discount your good opinion but the point is that the flood happened whether it was described people long ago and retold and changed a bit. I use this evidence to gain a step closer to the truth.

With that said if people back then described a pole shift or a meteor hitting the water and the water hitting us would be described totally different by people in that time and ignorant to nature at that.

Again I say that because I don’t take any of the descriptions literally because they are all parables and metaphors. It was meant to be that way so that the truly faithful could see it.

(Matthew 13:10-16 NIV) [10] The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”
[11] He replied, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. [12] Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. [13] This is why I speak to them in parables:
"Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand.
[14] In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:
“‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
[15] For this people’s heart has become calloused;
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.’
[16] But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.”

Notice that Jesus quotes from Isaiah when asked why He spoke to the people in parables. God was not speaking to the people in plain language because of their harden hearts. Only those like the disciples who had faith in Jesus could understand His words. I don’t think it is a stretch to say that Jesus was speaking to the people in a tongue they could not understand, even if it was their language.

I think the point is that the flood, as described in the average bible, is completely impossible nonsense. This should tell everyone what kind of accuracy is available in the rest of the bible. (i.e.-highly variable)

Exactly. The truth being that this flood as described never happened, so getting closer to the truth requires we recognize that this bible flood story is not a truthful account.

Floods do happen, obviously, and are related in other creation myths as well.

No it doesn’t. If protestant teaching goes by what is written in the bible, that’s fair.

If catholic teaching goes by “tradition”, or “someone’s opinion on what the bible says”. That is not fair.

The flood story is total bulls—t. I used to have the numbers on the flood. The bottom line. Those eight people could not have keep the sh-t scooped out of the ship. If they scooped 24 hours a day, seven days a week, they could not have keep the sh-t scooped out of the ship

I went to the Creation museum in northern Ky. last year. What a joke. When you start the tour. They have a dinosaur playing with humans in an exhibit. Hilarious…

If Noah’s “world” existed in a limited area, like inside of a sea volcano, and water came from above and from springs below the earth, then it would work.

Genesis 7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

That’s pretty comical. But at least in proposing your solution you are admitting that the bible flood story is not credible. That’s a good thing.
 
First you say the Great Flood didn’t happen at all, then I prove you wrong. Now you say it didn’t happen exactly according to the bible and I say what Ive been saying forever in this forum, the Bible is based on fact but its written in parables and metaphors. And remember that quote I put up by Jesus in my last post.
