No superstitions no delusions all ratio on the Atheist network. As a student of psychology thats too bad because you underestimate the power of the mind. If you made yourself belief something you would be able to do great feats. As a Catholic it just proves Atheist can never be spiritual because it would be a superstition or a delusion.

I thought Atheism was only not believing gin a God. A lot of Atheists have gone from that to just being not sure of themselves. I think the weak Atheists come to threads like this to argue because they are not sure. My brother in Law is an Atheist and he truly doesn’t believe and not once did he ever argue with me about that. Instead he doesn’t understand why Atheist would come to this thread when I told him. I guess that makes him a strong Atheist, in some respect.

I just don’t believe in Atheists being real I think they are all agnostic, but the agnostics that want to debate because they are insecure are called atheists, they need a lot of reassurance.

Buddhists can be atheists, but they are spiritual too.

What time is that supposed to be on? It looks like that channel can be watched for free online.

To Ikddav the source is in the same link you posted on the very top right.

To Minnie the reason I said what I said about not being spiritual is because I’m going along with the contradiction that I’m talking about. While you maybe spiritual I do not know because I don’t know you at all outside this forum. But it remains a contradiction.

You want me to prove Ikddav that you are a weak Atheist? why do you ask me that right below the answer? I told you if you truly believed there is no God you wouldn’t come here to debate unless you were getting paid to do so, because you’d be sure of yourself and therefore be a strong Atheist, by definition.

Just admit you can be open minded. Just the fact that you guys come here I appreciate believe it or not. It proves you are doubtful of being Atheist. An Atheist does NOTbelieve in God (in other words there are no doubts about it by definition). You are a step closer to accepting you are Agnostic; and later on in life you will find God.

You will be able to not discount lots peoples similar experiences and not call them all delusions.****

Ugh, too late for me, let me know how it goes.

Jonathan82, I repeat I am an agnostic atheist, are you still confused as to what these terms mean?

There are lots of religionists and monotheists debating at atheist and infidel websites. Does that mean all these people have doubts about their religious beliefs?

When the Spanish brought their Christian beliefs to the Americas they attempted to destroy the religious beliefs of the indigenous peoples. If they knew these beliefs were baloney, why did they make such great efforts to eradicate them? Are Christians so insecure?

The point is that people like to chat. It’s fun and interesting. And you have to be a good sport about it too. Folks can have a bit of fun at your expense. It won’t kill you. But it shouldn’t get ugly. That person you’re talking to is another person just like yourself with dreams and ambitions, fears, hopes, family, etc. You can’t push them off the planet. Might as well make the best of it.

I like to think that monotheists are big time atheists. There are literally thousands of gods, goddesses and spirits that they say are not real. With each new monotheism, gods somewhere take a big hit. Monotheism is just a natural outgrowth of henotheism. It just seems that more and more gods are becoming less and less popular. I think that’s a sign that folks are generally becoming less superstitious - at least presently. But only time will tell.

I like what you wrote maybe we can keep it nice and civil like that. I agree we are all human beings and we are very similar; As I grow older I realize that more and more how similar we are.

About the Christians o yes they are people also and yes I agree they are not perfect or better than you. When I was leaning more towards Agnosticism I thought they were fanatical one time I went out on a date with a girl that was Christian and we got to talking about religion all of a sudden and I told her some bad experiences I had in my life… she immediately asked me if she could pray for me because I was under Demonic attack, She was pretty so I didn’t say what could I say, she grabbed my hands(we were in a public place) and started praying I didn’t know whether to laugh or not but I felt uncomfortable. I never called her again:) .

I realize she believed in something that I did not understand because I knew that I would never understand unless I went through whatever she went through. Psychology and sociology play a good part in what path you go.

Ive experienced things I could not explain, like prophetic dreams, dreams that tell me the future and it happens. I was an Agnostic raised Catholic from South America were almost everyone is Catholic so its not easy not being raised that way; but those experiences and the full body apparitions Ive see were enough to make me think I was not alone. I sympathize with you or any non believer because I know what its like before those personal experiences that unfortunately, you can only take my word on. I later in my life have read and heard people with similar experiences so I try to connect the dots every time.

Welcome back, S4J. I wanted to comment that I think it is presumptouos of you to say that this stranger loves sin more than god. You made this decision based on the presumptions you made from a few words written by someone who doesn’t understand his position (though a Mother is closer to understanding than most).

I would suggest to the woman that she remember that an atheist might be pushed away by constant attempts at conversion.
You might be right about that, A. I might have been presumptuous, but the boy’s mother, who knows him better than you or i, agrees with me.
I think that we should examine this a bit. I think S4J’s original remark is absolutely correct. I believe A’s question/criticism is a bit odd coming from an atheist. In the atheist paradigm there is no God, therefore, there is is no sin. If an atheist wishes to comment on Christian belief about sin then the atheist must understand what the Christian belief is about sin.

Scripture helps us both in this regard. Scripture tells us in Romans 14:23 that “whatever does not proceed from faith is sin.” Any choice against God, and anything that does not proceed from faith is sin. If a person does not believe then their actions do not proceed from faith. Non-believers prefer/love their state of unbelief more than a state of faith/belief. Our friendly and articulate atheists have on the previous three threads made it abundantly clear that they like their lives the way they are, and that they find their lives enjoyable and fulfilling without a belief in God.

I think that S4J’s original statement is essentially true.

I just wanted to point out that there are more than one possible reason he could have for being a strong atheist and for posting on this board. Perhaps he is doing this to teach his young children about different religions…whatever his reasons might be, you said this was the proof you offered. I suggest you review your idea of what proof is.

You make me laugh!!! . If you are such a Atheist why haunt a catholic forum? Any normal person can see you ( and others) have a interest in God. Good luck in your search!
I was born an atheist. I have never (that I can recall) believed in a deity.

I thought about the concept God a bit when I was young, partly as a result of going to a Roman Catholic school. All the attendence at mass and the bible/religious studies never provided any evidence though. I didn’t know what to call them then, but appeals to emotion describes those lessons well.

Sorry I can’t go into more detail, my lunch break is about to finish!

I don’t believe in it, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have a good understanding of it. If you want to, ask me a few questions (with clear answers) with answers based on catholic ethics and we will see if I can guess the ‘right for a catholic’ answer.
I do understand the concept of sin well enough to know that a stranger doesn’t know (the mother or son could be lying, as a simple example). As far as I know, the sinner and your god know what is and is not sin, for the rest you are OK to guess, but not OK to judge.

Essentially, just not absolutely. My main response anyway was because I think more prosyletizing would not serve to improve the relationship and understanding between the two. I figured there would be LOTS of people telling him about their gods, but not as many willing to treat his ideas as worth having.

Well, it’s true, I do think it is an interesting question, and I think we’d all be better off if we formed our beliefs through rational means. So, thanks for your well-wishes!

It seems plenty here have an interest in atheists too, I wish everybody good luck in whatever they are searching for 🙂

You are mistaken. I come here for entertainment purposes.

Ugh, too late for me, let me know how it goes.
My main tv decided it didn’t want to work so I missed the first several minutes. The debate wasn’t very good; it was rushed because the program was only 30 minutes long including commercials, so neither side really had much time to make their points. Also the physicist, Dr. Mark Perakh wasn’t even in the studio. He was being broadcasted from the west coast, so it made the communication between the two parties a bit difficult. The topic was interesting, but not the debate itself. Just my two cents.
