Sorry, it’s quite late, I thought your post was trying to be serious, albeit completely ridiculous. My apologies if you were just telling a joke of some kind.

No, actually I was being quite serious. Not ridiculous at all. God exists, always has, always will…and where religion and God are concerned… I am hardly one of those people who is rabid about the issue… But I will state that I know He exists…or I would not be here today…and its not the kind of reason you think it is… 🙂 Its a long story, very long…not at all sad or tear jerking or any of that… 😉

Atheists have to be the most diligently silly people in human history.
They need their own unique subspecies classification, however I have not the remotest concept of what would be an adequate cognomen. Perhaps Homo Missouriensis.

I think there would have to be an ancillary proto-phase category though; those who insist on speaking at them when it isn’t a matter of life or death.
If you leave them alone they will quite happily talk to themselves, and still never win the argument.
Be kind - let them.
To hear themselves talk is what they enjoy most.
Life is too short.

God bless you.

Actual the words “atheist and atheism” alone or in complex sentences are oxymoron’s.

In order to “not believe in God”…you must first accept the existence of God, because to attempt to deny the existence of what you believe does not exist is not possible. Simply put…you are wandering in the dark…with a bad flashlight, hoping someone turns on the lights…or you find the end of the tunnel and the door is not locked.

God exists…and He is “undeniable”. 😃
Well then, as you claim to be trying to salvage some serious point out of this post, let’s revisit it.

Atheism would have to contradict itself in order to be an oxymoron, like my favourite one “gospel truth”

I think you’ve been misled as to what atheism actually is to many, possibly most, atheists. As per my signature, it is simply a lack of belief in God, nothing more. It doesn’t require a belief that god doesn’t exist, though those people who hold that belief ALSO lack belief in the existence of a god and therefore are also atheists.

Either way your claim that in order to not believe in something you have to believe in it, is blatantly absurd. If you are trying to tell me that this is the way you reason then my condolences, or you are a liar. Give me an example of something you don’t believe in that you believe in (because apparently you have to).

Nice little analogy at the end. Pointless and irrelevant, but nice. Let me see if I can come up with a similar one. You are like a child clinging desperately to your security blanket under your bed in your room because it has never let you down before, but one day you’re going to have to step out into the real world and see what it is actually like.

I think “god” in general is undeniable as well. But only because it is such a vague untestable term, which doesn’t serve as a good reason to believe in it either.

Thanks for your kind words. I though you believed you were going to live forever, so what’s all this life is too short business?😛

Welcome to the thread, bring some evidence next time. 🙂

.
The evidence speaks for itself.

You can talk at an atheist, or chew gum.
The last at least gets food particles out of your teeth.
I am not the least bit interested in what some atheist doesn’t believe - the fact that they can also bore a tree stump to death is a secondary consideration.

God bless you all

I am so sorry to hear that you have such unfavorable opinions about atheists. Perhaps you’ve encountered some that caused you to hold your prejudice views? If you care to read any of these past 5 threads, you will realize that both believers and non-believers are speaking with each other, not at each other.

You may want to open your mind; we’re all not that boring:p

Open your mind too.
Even Einstein found atheists tiresome.

God bless you

For someone who finds atheists so boring, you sure seem interested in participating in–of all things–an atheist thread!

Peace be with you all!!! 🙂
I’m really new to this forum, and so far I’ve also been reading (and enjoying) the posts on this thread. Just wanted to mention a couple of good books for rusty20 here.

Try Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis, who was an atheist before converting to Christianity.
Language of God by Francis Collins (who directed the Human Genome project) is also really good, if you want a scientist’s viewpoint on the matter (he also converted to Christianity)
Finally, I also suggest Truth and Tolerance by Cardinal Ratzinger ( aka Pope Benedict XVI). Granted, it was written by someone born and raised Catholic all his life but it still could help out a litte of you want to look at it more philosophically.

Maybe you have read some of these already. I am also open to suggestions 😃

I might say a couple of words here and there, but don’t count on me to add too much 😛
By the way, it is very refreshing to see a forums where people have (for the most part) been respectful of each other. I have seen other forums where this was most certainly not the case. 😦

God bless you all, even you phooney! (yes, I said it 😃 )

The blessing is currently meaningless to me, but I gladly accept your well wishes, and return them myself. 🙂

Also, if Pax is still following these threads, the book you recommended to me finally showed up as available on the UK amazon market place, and should be arriving today.

I have a Richard Feynman book to read first, and then it’s “Handbook of Christian Apologetics” by Peter Kreeft as you suggested.

Well, it didn’t arrive yesterday… but it did arrive today. It looks like a great book to tell you the truth, well set out, lengthy and comprehensive.

I flicked through it, and the former owner has been kind enough to write helpful notes in the margins as well (“the gospels are not lies!”). On one page I spotted the heading “Evolution” and a little further down the page I spotted that timeless indicator of a person who really has not the slightest clue what they are talking about in regards to science when I saw “theory, not a fact”.

It really is a struggle to stop myself reading the whole thing now, it looks that entertaining, but I promised myself to stick to the order in the list!

Hello all

I thought I would bump this thead up with a question. I think the catholic church is the one “true church” on this planet. Protestants are just coat tail draggers to the one “true church”. What do you think?

I think it is an important enough question to want some evidence for before reaching the conclusion.

I just found an interesting question that, even as a former catholic I could not answer.
When does the eucharest stop being the body of Jesus?

When you put it in your mouth? During digestion?
… When it’s in the sewer?
Never?

Hmm? When a tree falls in the forest and nobody is there does the tree really fall? Is there really a tree or a forest if nobody sees it?
Why would a tree fall to begin with if it existed at all? Does the tree then decay if it is uprooted? When it is in decay does it still remain a tree if it ever existed in the first place?
