I think you won’t be satisfied with mine. Your Yahweh is always going to fail to meet our moral standards. It is not because he is a ‘god’, it is because he is a character invented by people who also would not meet our standards. You continually insist that we simply can’t hold Yahweh to a standard, well, most people do have standards. The fact that your god doesn’t meet the least of these standards of decent behaviour should tell you something.Thank you both for again addressing my concern. I consider this to be progress. That having been said, I am not yet satisfied with your answers.
I am sovereign over me. Your Yahweh fails to meet even my liberal standards, so how could you ever expect me to ‘accept’ that this character is the one true god?…I think that understanding those things is contingent upon recognizing God’s sovereignty first and that human beings are not in a position to judge the actions taken by a supreme being that created all things.
Well, I don’t torture when I have the option of a quick kill. Yahweh loves to drag it out…make it more torturous. That is reconciled. Has been a few times, you just don’t want to admit it.I am not convinced that either of you have “reconciled” human actions and dominion over animals which we all consider to be okay, with your views concerning God’s actions toward man.
Keep saying that we aren’t answering you, and maybe some will believe it.I will cut to the chase here. Any answer that does not directly reconcile the two points is not an answer. It seems to be more of a dodge or maybe just a nonsequiteur.
No. You haven’t made a ‘point’. You are simply saying that your god doesn’t have to be moral, and if he wasn’t, we couldn’t understand it anyhow. You, however, say you understand. If your Yahweh told you to sacrifice your child, would you? How would you differentiate between Yahweh giving you an order to do something like that and you *hallucinating *?Admittedly, from your position and point of view, it is difficult to answer without condemning yourself or conceding that God has every right to do what he does and is above being criticized for it in the same way that you are. I do not want this stage of our discussion to become an impasse. I would, however, like to see you concede the point.
Justified only according to himself. Not just by human standards. I am human. You are justified in doing what you do, and God is justified in doing what he does.
Pax, I appreciate your investment of time here, what I want you to realize is that your Yahweh is not something I believe in. To me, *everyone *is judged in the same way (for example by a judge, through due process of law).
