I am an atheist

Hello:

Actually this is what really bothers me about atheists. Seems they are too arrogant not to even understand what they don’t like to believe. More so to challenge others who understands both sides of the coin.

Sorry, but i have been an agnostic once or twice. Maybe tell us what bothers you not to believe in what we believe?
Why should I believe it? It would be nonsense to make you justify not believing in all the gods besides Yahweh, so you tell me - what is there that is worth believing?

What can one learn from an atheist? What can one learn from a heretic, how to be a good heretic? I am here to be with my Catholic brothers and sisters

@SwordBrethren

How about another point of view? That’s what you can learn.

I asked why you are here, and you ask what you can learn from me. I would tell you, but you answer your own question. How to be a good heretic.
What is an heretic? Are you one? Are you accusing me of being one? If you are, I would suggest that you define the term enough that we can see if you are contributing in a meaningful way, or if you are simply being insulting.
Please remember that this can be an emotionally charged subject. Using insults (if that is what you were doing) makes learning more difficult. In my opinion, it slows down the learning process.
Let’s try to get more light than heat out of this subject.

What other view is there but Christ and His Church, The Holy Catholic Church.

Placing God in a box of our own understanding, thus limiting His light to shine in us to wards others, in lieu, of the letter of the word, verse the actions of the heart.

I restated my questions, which you ignored, but to show you that I am a good sport, I will try to answer your question.
I began to try to list all the religions, but the list is too long (and most of them say they are the one true faith lol). I have a link which may help you answer that question. If you really thought that yours was the only view, this link should show you that your church is quite recent on the scene, and there are far more than one choice. Where you are born seems to be the largest determining factor about which religion you subscribe to.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_religions
I know that the list is not exhaustive, but it is a good starting point, and clear evidence that there are far more than one church out there to choose from.
If you were asking honestly, you’re welcome. If you were being sarcastic in your question, this should still be a good answer.

Your god can’t do anything.
If I am mistaken, show me the evidence. Tell me about it in a quantitative manner, allowing for experimental (and independant) confirmation of your hypothesis.
At one time mankind believed the world to be flat. The body of human knowledge is constantly expanding, and it is the height of arrogance to assume that if it can’t be quantified that it therefore doesn’t exist.

I hope you’re here for the right reasons, friend. Regardless, may God Bless you and your loved ones.

Control your pride. I used heretic as an example. What can one learn from an atheist, but how to be a good atheist? I am a poor sinner who cries for God’s mercy. There are many religions but only Christ is true and His Catholic Church. That is not my teaching but that of God Himself and His Holy Catholic Church. I was raised in no religion.

So how do you know that it is God’s teaching?

I’m not quite like A, though we both lack belief in God, so we are both atheists. I will believe something if the balance of evidence indicates it, though be entirely willing to change my belief if the balance of evidence changes.

Calling me silly would be a personal attack, and against the rules of this board. Since it is my statement you found silly, I will simply demonstrate how silly yours is.
Are you making an honest mistake here, or lying? I don’t believe. I don’t believe that there is a god. I don’t believe that there is no god. I don’t believe in the theory of evolution. Belief gets in the way of learning. I do not. This is another example of you making a silly statement. How do you even know that I am a person and not a sophisticated posting computer? Answer is, you don’t know, so you can’t know that I believe I am human. If it became important to decide if I was human, I would examine the definition of human, and begin experimenting to see if I was indeed human. I would still not believe, though, since the definition, or my self could change. (is a pile of ashes that was once a human still a human?)I do not. If I need that bit of info, I will go through the same procedure I noted above. No belief needed. Many people who hear that I am an atheist try to assign beliefs to me. That is not fair. Atheist is entirely consistent with lacking in belief, as I hope you can understand now.I am curious. I am curious particularly about how people come to believe the stories which I see as so much nonsense and propaganda. I still do not understand this belief, but I am beginning to.
You begin by accusing me of making a personal attack, informing me it is against site rules, than carry yourself to make the same exact statement towards me that troubled you so…

I was not making a personal attack…I said your STATEMENT was silly, not you. If you choose to consider my reply to you as ‘silly’, that’s fine…although, not very original. Please read up the definition of ‘hypocrite’ if you care to understand another word that you practice, but don’t seem to understand.

You believe there is no God. How can you debate you don’t have a ‘belief’? That is silly. You can also believe the world is flat and that the stork brought you to your parents on your birthdate, but those too would be incorrect. ‘If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice’…(Freewill by Rush)

I’m not attempting to sway you towards Catholicism. I simply recommended a very unbiased approach to understanding the concept of a power greater than ourselves. It is merely a spiritual based reading, not one with any religious agenda. If you are not interested, that’s perfectly fine. I know many people who were helped out of the darkness of agnosticism and atheism who were open minded enough to simply read this one chapter and walked away realizing the overwhelming likelihood of the existence of a higher power, myself included. That simple step was the foundation of me finding the Truth to life.

Again, I don’t understand the motive behind you posting on a Catholic website if you believe there is no God. You are either agnostic, and not atheist, or you enjoy to carry on debates with people’s who’s opinions you disagree with.

If you want ‘proof’ of God’s existence, I’m not certain you’ll ever find it. In my opinion, historically the existence of Jesus Christ has been proven…the fact that he is the Messiah has not. That is where the leap from fact to faith is necessary.

With that said, not believing in God makes you of no more or less value than anyone else in God’s eyes. You appear to be searching for something, hence your participation in this forum, I wish you the best! 👍

It was a collection of evidence (independantly verifiable evidence) which changed the body of knowledge about the flat earth.
I am not being arrogant, but simply demanding the same level of evidence that I would for any important question.
It is not that the evidence is thin, or scant. It is completely absent. After thousands of years of searching, there is none. That in itself is a large piece of evidence.

Control your pride. I used heretic as an example. What can one learn from an atheist, but how to be a good atheist? I am a poor sinner who cries for God’s mercy. I would like you to go into a mosque in Saudi Arabia and make that statement. Discuss with the imams your beliefs, and you will see that they are as sure of their god as you are of yours. If you think they are the same god, tell them so! Emphasize the fact that you believe that Yahweh is the one true god, and catholicism is the one true faith.
Really, I don’t want you to, you would be in danger, I think. What I would like you to do is realize that the muslim faith is different than your catholic faith, and it’s adherants are equally convinced that you are incorrect. How do I tell the difference between the two?

Cogito ergo sum. (as a man once said before me)
I would shorten the statement to ‘I am’.
I hope this answers your question.
It does, though. How do you know God doesn’t exist? Are you 100% certain he doesn’t exist.

You begin by accusing me of making a personal attack, informing me it is against site rules, than carry yourself to make the same exact statement towards me that troubled you so…
I said your statements were silly because you said mine were. If you want to go on with this kind of banter, I am OK with it. We should be careful to stay within the boundaries our hosts have set for us.
You believe there is no God.
This is a lie. The first few times you said it, it may have been a mistake, but this time you know my position, yet you choose to say things which are not true. Please don’t put words in my mouth.
How can you debate you don’t have a ‘belief’? That is silly.
I don’t believe. You believe in Yahweh (I think), that means that you have chosen this belief from all the beliefs about gods that are out there. I have not chosen any of the gods as one which I believe in. If I see one that is worthy of belief, or if the evidence points to the existence of a god, I may change that, but I don’t believe. I examine, and stay open to new evidence.
You can also believe the world is flat and that the stork brought you to your parents on your birthdate, but those too would be incorrect. ‘If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice’…(Freewill by Rush)
I choose not to believe. That is the ‘choice’ I made. I wouldn’t call it a choice myself, I think the evidence is in favour of not believing in Thor, Apollo, Yahweh, Baal or the Flying Spaghetti Monster. If you have found evidence that any of these don’t exist, I would be interested in examining it. As far as I know, there is equal evidence for the non-existence of all of them.
I’m not attempting to sway you towards Catholicism. I simply recommended a very unbiased approach to understanding the concept of a power greater than ourselves. It is merely a spiritual based reading, not one with any religious agenda. If you are not interested, that’s perfectly fine. I know of several who were helped out of the darkness of faith and dogma with a bit of reading, too.
who were open minded enough to simply read this one chapter and walked away realizing the overwhelming likelihood of the existence of a higher power, myself included. That simple step was the foundation of me finding the Truth to life.
You mention ‘chapter’ but don’t specify. Sorry if you mentioned (or posted ) it earlier and I forgot.
Again, I don’t understand the motive behind you posting on a Catholic website if you believe there is no God.
Again you are trying to put words in my mouth. Stop it, please, I will speak for myself. I do not believe.
You are either agnostic, and not atheist, or you enjoy to carry on debates with people’s who’s opinions you disagree with.
I do enjoy debate, and it seems much more genuine when people whom I genuinely disagree with are participating. That is what debate is for. I am not agnostic, but atheist. I don’t believe in a god or gods. Thats it. Atheist doesn’t mean anything else. I am many things other than an atheist (such as a fisherman and a novice chess player) but don’t confuse my other attributes with atheism. Another atheist might have nothing in common with me except for his or her lack of belief.
If you want ‘proof’ of God’s existence, I’m not certain you’ll ever find it. In my opinion, historically the existence of Jesus Christ has been proven…the fact that he is the Messiah has not. That is where the leap from fact to faith is necessary.
Why would I leap out of reality? I am quite happy and satisfied here. I see the RC church as restrictive, and politically opposed to many of the freedoms which I value. The fact that the church says they are the true church doesn’t change that.
With that said, not believing in God makes you of no more or less value than anyone else in God’s eyes. You appear to be searching for something, hence your participation in this forum, I wish you the best! 👍
I am always searching…for friends…for debate…for better jobs…for new ways to do my job better…I think everyone is searching regularly. I am not searching for a god here, mainly, I am hoping to understand belief a little better. I have noticed that catholics, as far as the faithful go, are much more willing to engage in study, and debate in particular than the other faiths. I think this debate has a good chance of teaching all of us reading it some things. I have noticed, for example, that many people here didn’t know some things about atheists (such as thinking that I believe there is no god).
