You begin by accusing me of making a personal attack, informing me it is against site rules, than carry yourself to make the same exact statement towards me that troubled you so…
I said your statements were silly because you said mine were. If you want to go on with this kind of banter, I am OK with it. We should be careful to stay within the boundaries our hosts have set for us.
You believe there is no God.
This is a lie. The first few times you said it, it may have been a mistake, but this time you know my position, yet you choose to say things which are not true. Please don’t put words in my mouth.
How can you debate you don’t have a ‘belief’? That is silly.
I don’t believe. You believe in Yahweh (I think), that means that you have chosen this belief from all the beliefs about gods that are out there. I have not chosen any of the gods as one which I believe in. If I see one that is worthy of belief, or if the evidence points to the existence of a god, I may change that, but I don’t believe. I examine, and stay open to new evidence.
You can also believe the world is flat and that the stork brought you to your parents on your birthdate, but those too would be incorrect. ‘If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice’…(Freewill by Rush)
I choose not to believe. That is the ‘choice’ I made. I wouldn’t call it a choice myself, I think the evidence is in favour of not believing in Thor, Apollo, Yahweh, Baal or the Flying Spaghetti Monster. If you have found evidence that any of these don’t exist, I would be interested in examining it. As far as I know, there is equal evidence for the non-existence of all of them.
I’m not attempting to sway you towards Catholicism. I simply recommended a very unbiased approach to understanding the concept of a power greater than ourselves. It is merely a spiritual based reading, not one with any religious agenda. If you are not interested, that’s perfectly fine. I know many people who were helped out of the darkness of agnosticism and atheism
I know of several who were helped out of the darkness of faith and dogma with a bit of reading, too.
who were open minded enough to simply read this one chapter and walked away realizing the overwhelming likelihood of the existence of a higher power, myself included. That simple step was the foundation of me finding the Truth to life.
You mention ‘chapter’ but don’t specify. Sorry if you mentioned (or posted ) it earlier and I forgot.
Again, I don’t understand the motive behind you posting on a Catholic website if you believe there is no God.
Again you are trying to put words in my mouth. Stop it, please, I will speak for myself. I do not believe.
You are either agnostic, and not atheist, or you enjoy to carry on debates with people’s who’s opinions you disagree with.
I do enjoy debate, and it seems much more genuine when people whom I genuinely disagree with are participating. That is what debate is for. I am not agnostic, but atheist. I don’t believe in a god or gods. Thats it. Atheist doesn’t mean anything else. I am many things other than an atheist (such as a fisherman and a novice chess player) but don’t confuse my other attributes with atheism. Another atheist might have nothing in common with me
except for his or her lack of belief.
If you want ‘proof’ of God’s existence, I’m not certain you’ll ever find it. In my opinion, historically the existence of Jesus Christ has been proven…the fact that he is the Messiah has not. That is where the leap from fact to faith is necessary.
Why would I leap out of reality? I am quite happy and satisfied here. I see the RC church as restrictive, and politically opposed to many of the freedoms which I value. The fact that the church says they are the true church doesn’t change that.
With that said, not believing in God makes you of no more or less value than anyone else in God’s eyes. You appear to be searching for something, hence your participation in this forum, I wish you the best!
I am always searching…for friends…for debate…for better jobs…for new ways to do my job better…I think everyone is searching regularly. I am not searching for a god here, mainly, I am hoping to understand belief a little better. I have noticed that catholics, as far as the faithful go, are much more willing to engage in study, and debate in particular than the other faiths. I think this debate has a good chance of teaching all of us reading it some things. I have noticed, for example, that many people here didn’t know some things about atheists (such as thinking that I believe there is no god).
