I know this has nothing to do with Catholicism… But this the only place i can turn to rite now. I’m in middle school. I have not one friend…I feel alone right now in this world… I’m so depressed. I just want god to heal me… But no matter how much I pray to god it feels like he never helps me! I’m so emotionally frustrated now… NOBODY likes me. I don’t want to tell my parents because I will be embarrassed. I don’t want to talk to a therapist either. This the only place I have to go…please give me some advice to cope with my loneliness and depression. 😦

Thanks in advance,
Trey C.

Hello. I have been out of middle school for a long time now, but I had bad problems with depression through middle school and high school, too. I think one of the best things you could do is talk to your parents about it. I know it is embarrassing and tough to do, but it can lead to help. The last thing you want to do is hold it all in on yourself.

Well as stated before talking to your parents is a first and foremost step in getting help.

I can assure you that God does hear our prayers, the trick is learning to understanding and keeping an eye out for the answer He gives. Being rational or logical enough at a young age to deal with depression is very hard, i grew up not knowing i was even depressed, at least you know. So you have something to work with.

If you do not feel you can talk to your parents, then you have to find a relative you are comfortable with, or a teacher. Other than that start looking to people your own age to talk to that are an outcast as well, put it like this, if you feel alone now, think about other classmates that are feeling just like you right now, and want desperately someone to talk to. Then I would offer this humbly, take small steps in prayer, for example, instead of praying for a multitude of friends , pray for the courage to just to talk one person each day, to at the very least be able to look someone in the eyes, smile an simply say hello.

Lastly we are lonely to some degree, more over we dont realize that the majority of that lonelyness stems from the lack of a relationship with Christ, we thirst an cry an beg for acceptance and friendship and happyness, when Christ has been there all along just waiting for us to accept His friendship.

Do you have any brothers or sisters or aunts or uncles you can talk to what about grandparents

When I was young I would ask to stay at my grandparents 15 minutes away for the weekend and would talk to them about my concerns a lot

Jesus is always your friend and He knows what it was like not to have any friends and feel alone too!!! Don’t be embarrassed to talk to your parents either, they love you and they might be able to help you find people that are more like you or who share similar interests Also, Check your church and see if there is a teen ministry group you could join, they are always nice to people!

God may heal you through other people. I think that you need to talk to someone who knows and cares about you; when you hide, depression can make reality seem like a much wierder, darker place than it has to be. 😦

Confiding to a relative, priest, or school counselor might be a good idea.

Sweetie, I completely understand where you are coming from, and I am so sorry that you are going through this. I am nineteen, almost twenty now, but when I was your age, I was dealing with the same problem. The good news is, middle school is the worst, and then things get better.

Try getting involved with organizations outside of school. Separating yourself from the environment in which you feel lonely is a good first step. I was a dancer for many years, and it helped me handle the “loneliness” much, much better; when I would dance, all of the hurt came out and I felt like a new person. It is truly a release.

I guess what I am trying to say is, it might be helpful to occupy your time with a hobby.

Finally, I cannot stress enough how important it really is to speak with your parents about your struggles. Maybe you will feel embarrassed at first, which is understandable…but it will be worth it in the long-run, I promise. Parents love us so much, and they want for us to come to them when we are alone or in need.

In the meantime, never stop praying. Friends may be scarce, but the Lord is always with you. I will keep you in my prayers.

God bless,

Christa

I know exactly where you are as I was there my last year of middle school. Talk to Jesus. He understands. I know that for me this would be almist impossible to bring up in a serious manner to my parents. But what about your priest? Also keep in mind school (for me atleast) is almost over. Next year, at the beginning of the school year start sitting with new people at lunch maybe. People who are like you. You dont have to sit with the super popular crowd. What about the kids who also dont have anyone to talk to?

I met one of my best friends because i was all alone at school and so was she. We started talking and (took weeks for her to open up to me-as she is very shy) we ended up to have some in common and are now friends.

Make sure you try to get together with some friends this summer too.

And this is the big one: the closer to God you become the less alone you will be. You say no one likes you? Well God LOVES you as if you were the only one one earth. Message me if you want to talk anymore (being serious here) and God Bless you!!
And never try to be someone your not, you’ll never make friends (atleast not the right type that way!)

exactly. I went through depression and I would hide and it only made things worse. Talking to my mom, who is like my best friend, really helped, even though I really didn’t want to confine to her because my depression and my hiding made me think my mom didn’t care about me because she didn’t notice. I am better now since going through therapy and getting on some meds to help. It is best that you talk to someone you love and trust and have them help you.

God speaks and shows his love for us through our surroundings, especially through people. He can grant you healing but are willing to accept his help by going to someone he can work through to help you?

God Bless and remember, you are never alone.

Hi Trey, I am so sorry to hear about your loneliness. I also had a bad time in middle school. No one ever talked to me, I had no friends, and I felt incredibly awkward around everyone. I had my mother to turn to, but that was it. Middle school was easily the loneliest time in my life, and it sounds like you are going through a similar trial.

But know this: it gets better. This may seem inconceivable right now, but you will make friends one day. After I left middle school and went to high school, things changed dramatically, and I promise they will for you too. Have patience with yourself, God will guide you. He will never EVER abandon you.

Also remember that you are still growing as a person, don’t think that things will always stay the way they are, they wont. I am a first-year in college, but looking back, I realize how much I have changed since middle school. I am hardly the same person, and all other college freshmen I have talked to have said the same about themselves.

Its also important to remember that the suffering you are going through is not meaningless. God has given this suffering specifically to you for your mission. This enormous suffering you are experiencing is purifying your soul, and perhaps you will be able to understand this in the future.

Personally speaking, because of my experience of loneliness in middle school, I have found more compassion in my heart for those who are outsiders and those who find it difficult to socialize with others. I believe that God allowed me to suffer in middle school, because through this suffering, I have found more compassion in my heart for those who are socially awkward.

May Jesus grant you peace, I will pray for you Trey.

Loneliness is a feeling not to be given into if you can help it. Do your best not to give it free reign.

We’re never alone in this life.

Heaven is always watching over us.

We always have friends.

Loneliness is a dangerous feeling because it self-perpetuates and blocks off consolation. It can cause us to shut ourselves away from the help that is truly there… though the feeling tells us it isn’t. So we have to take care of ourselves a bit with regard to it.

God is closer to us than we know, with His angels and His saints. 🙂

Heaven’s love wishes to console us. 🙂

Dearest friend in Christ,

Always remember God loves you. Your faith in him and turning to him in your time of need, I feel is far greater than that of other worldly things. I am impressed with the fact that you reach out to him first rather than other things. Middle school is a test of, I think everyone’s faith. I remember middle school was a very frustrating time for me but some how God got me through it along with the support of friends and family. Parents are always hard to talk to, but if you’re open with them and they are open with you, your relationship will be the greater. If not your your parents, maybe a friends parents or someone that you feel you have a great connection with. Always remember that nothing lasts forever and that God will continue to bless you if you keep him in your heart. I hope this helps and I will pray for you.

Peace be with you.🙂

Hi,
you really need to talk to someone. God did not create you to be alone, that is why being alone can be so hard. Talk to a priest if you can’t talk to a therapist or your parents. Be honest and tell him what is bothering you. When you talk to people, you will realize they just want to help you.

Pray to the Blessed Mother to give you the courage to talk to someone you trust.

Keep hope.

Oh,honeyI am so sorry to hear of your struggles. As many have said,Middle School can be so tough.I know I went through some pretty difficult things,so did my three daughters. Please know that you are infinitely precious in God’s eyes. You have already gotten lots of good advice here.Nothing more for me to add except that I will keep you on my prayers.😉

I was depressed in middle school and it helped me to see a therapist. They didn’t medicate kids back then.

I’d encourage you to talk to your parents. Also, see if there is a youth group at church you can join. I was in a youth group from 9-12 grades and I made a lot of friends there. Two are still my Facebook friends.

Middle school was tough for me (I had to change schools due to bullying) but high school was much better! Hang in there.

Thank you all for you help…you really gave me a confidence boost.
