Thank you Humble, because I really didn’t want to have to talk about indulgences. So what will we talk about?

P.S. The weather is really nice here this time of year. 😃

I don’t know … I just watched Jim Carey’s new movie “Yes Man” … great flick! He was a bored guy, once divorced, late 30’s to early 40’s (never clarified of course) who was in a life rut. He went to this seminar where he made a covenant where he had to say “yes” to everything. You gotta see it … good flick (I give it the Francis’ 👍).

Sort of cliche … wound up as a love story (more of a chick flick … but Carey movies have guy appeal too). Truly one of my favorite youngish actors (though Ed Norton is my favorite 30 or early 40 something actor). Like everything else though there’s no good actors, musicians, or anything in their 20’s anymore (we’re in an era of mediocrity, which of course is the real reason for our recession).

And why are we in an era of mediocrity? I say kids are robots today … no more rebels who rail against the status quo. Now the status quo has become so youngish that young people can’t even compete. For goodness sake I still see high school kids with Led Zeppelin t-shirts? There hasn’t been a good rock band since the early 90’s (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc.). Kids are just dang slackers these days …

50 year old’s don’t want to grow the heck up and act like parents.

How come the happiest countries in the world (I just seen this on Yahoo) are in Scandinavia (where they’re virtually all atheists). Don’t get me wrong, they really don’t produce anything all that great. They’re like the rest of the world, who gets by because they mimic American innovation … yet we’re not really innovating (and we haven’t been for almost a decade now).

I hope Obama can be like Clinton or Reagan … who for whatever reason really spurred innovation.

“Yes Man” is sort of like a previous Jim Carey movie “Liar Liar” isn’t it - I thought that movie, by the way, was hilarious, the bathroom scene alone was worth a million laughs. Another one of my favorite Jim Carey movies would be “Dick and Jane” do you remember that one? There was this part in the movie where they look like they’re dressed in scuba gear, where he’s speaking through some kind of device that made him sound like a robot. He’s robbing some rich man’s house. Oh, that part made laugh so hard I cried. I like Edward Norton (but my one of my favorite actor is Jim Caviezel) too especially when I saw him act in “The Painted Veil”. That was one of the first times I truly thougth him handsome. But anyways he did a phenomenal job acting that role. You know I can’t think of any good actor in their 20’s, I’m getting nothing. Personally, I don’t like many Hollywood movies, I think they are too cliche especially the chick flicks. They don’t do romance like they used too. I miss Clark Gable.

It’s called mass marketing and mass culture. People are sucked into the ideals put out by industries such as fashion, music (I hate hip hop), and films/T.V. And there isn’t much orginality within these industries to foster true innovation/uniqueness. By the way, do you like watching international films, the French have done some pretty good movies, even the Germans and the Italians. Although my favorites are the classics, I love the “Sound of Music”, and “The Quiet Man” with John Wayne, “San Francisco” with Clark Gable.

As for the happy Scandinavian countries, I’m not sure about that, I know Denmark was considered the place where people are the happiest, but I don’t think the other Scandinavian countries are all that great. From what I understand Sweden has the highest suicide rate. But this was some time ago, well, not that long ago.

Was it Sweden that hate Satanists burning Churches not too long ago?

Actually I don’t know anything about that? What did you hear about it?
I was watching a documentary about Heavy Metal (I think it was on VH1 or MTV) they did a segment about Swedish ( I think Swedish) Satanic death metal bands. Anyway, there was a whole slew of Church burnings. I think a guy in a death metal band got caught in one of the Church burning fiascos. There were quite a few Churches burned down though.

Wow! this thread is WAY off track. :o
Oh well, I’m off to bed. Good night, God bless!

hmmm … white stripes are pretty good, not great but pretty good
You don’t like Cold Play, also, have you ever heard of a group called Keane. They’re pretty good in my opinion. And although I haven’t heard from them in a while I do like Evanescence. The Verve was a group I liked as well, too bad they broke up. I love “Bittersweet symphony”.

P.S. You must be missing your mom, today, more than usual.

Ok, l listened to the second song that you posted, I kinda liked, it was ok, I did however, like the first song. It had a great beat, but what’s up with Jack White, he’s sooooo pale, even that other guy from that group “ours”.

By the way, I’m listening to Genesis at this moment, you know that song, “Jesus he knows me”, I wish I could sing (maybe I could post the words) it to some of our more “enthusiastic” evangelical posters, they remind me of those described in the song, "Jesus He knows me, and He knows I’m right, I’ve been talking to Jesus all my life, ohhh, yes He knows me . . . . "

I posted this for you, her name is Plumb, she’s a Christian/rock singer, she reminds me of Amy Lee, but I think she’s better, here’s a song written for her children entitled: In My Arms - youtube.com/watch?v=x4eLU3wPHdU

P.S. You really need to watch this video.

Cold Play is OK (but again there’s no real greatness out there today). America needs innovation like we had 10 or 15 years ago. I hope Obama can help spur our creativity. I’m glad we now have a President that doesn’t just focus on war and religion. Obviously we need to defend ourselves … but we need a President who can multitask:)

Sadly this will come at the expense of our budget deficit. Just when we think we can get to a balanced budget a new problem arises that imposes enormous financial burdens on our taxpayers. First the war on terror, now the banking crises, of course there’s a social security and Medicare crisis looming on the horizon (that everyone seems to be ignoring now).

We know too high a tax burden tempers economic growth, we also know too small a government takes away the buffer that provides a soft landing during recessionary periods, What we’re lacking is real ingenuity to solve these problems; I hope I’m wrong.

What possible medicare crisis are you refering to?

the looming mass retirement of the baby boomers (and our responsibility to provide medical insurance to them). This impending crisis is actually much more dire than social security will be.

Convert to Catholicism. The Orthodox don’t have the papacy which is truly Biblical and true when we look at the Early Church Fathers as well. See the following links:

catholic.com/library/Origins_of_Peter_as_Pope.asp

catholic.com/library/Peter_and_the_Papacy.asp

catholic.com/library/Peter_Primacy.asp

scripturecatholic.com/primacy_of_peter.html
With respect Holly there’s no first century precedent for the Papacy. Rome came to dominate Christianity because it dominated the world when Christianity was invented. In fact the only bishop that scholars believe Peter probably did anoint was Ignatius of Antioch. However, we have writings from Ignatius, Polycarp, and Clement … none of which indicate anything beyond either a Presbyterian or Episcopal governing structure for the church (with no lead bishop at Rome).

The tradition you point to didn’t emerge until centuries after these men lived. Take Pope Linus as an example, the second bishop of Rome (allegedly after Peter occupied the chair). There’s no evidence or even direct claims or writings or anything that indicates Peter did any more than preach in Rome, just as he preached in many other cities and anointed bishops (or presbyters) elsewhere. The Roman church claimed for itself the primacy of Peter, it’s not something that can be directly supported or even logically inferred from any apostolic precedent, writing, or anything.

All the volumes of information the church disseminates on this topic doesn’t change the basic root facts. The papacy finds support from only the internal claims of the RCC, and not from any discernible historical source.
