Today I became involved in an abortion “debate” (actually it was more of a battle) on another forum. I was all by myself and I was attacked several times. One woman said she loathed me and that I was obviously an idiot. One said I must have chosen bad colleges because I didn’t understand that a first-trimester fetus doesn’t experience pain, when I had never even mentioned first-trimester fetuses. One said that babies become persons at birth because of magic. I felt like I was in a battle with the enemy all around me.
And I was. But the enemy wasn’t the people who were attacking me. The enemy is the evil one. These people who I have let hurt me aren’t the enemy at all - they, along with unborn babies, are the ones we are trying to save!! Surely they were created by a loving God and have precious souls. They need our prayers, our help, our love.
I talked to a friend today about my experience and she asked me if I had rejoiced yet. I asked her what the heck I should rejoice about and she said “the insults, of course.” How dumb can I be? Of course I should rejoice in the insults and I should always offer up personal pain to God. It is a treasure.
My friend PMd me the following quote. I like it a lot and would like to share it with you. I realize this is not the start of a long thread but I know there are lurkers (I’m one
) and maybe this will help us who fight for the rights of the unborn when we feel tired, frustrated, and sad:
“If we follow all our Commander’s (God’s) battle instructions, we will also do something all the saints did, but something we don’t hear about any more today; we will rejoice when we are persecuted and vilified. Today’s instruments of persecution are usually made only of ink, not steel. If we can’t rejoice in these little verbal slaps, how will we rejoice in imprisonments or martyrdom? What a privilege to get so close to the Crucified that a bit of His blood splatters on us!”

Dear God,
Please help me rejoice when I am hurt, insulted, hated, loathed, called names, all because I speak Your Truth - that the unborn are human beings created in Your image. Tomorrow is the beginning of Lent. I’ve never paid much attention to Lent. This year will be different. I offer to You all the pain I have experienced and will experience during Lent (both physical and emotional) in the cause of stopping the murder of our unborn. Please give me wisdom, please strengthen my armor of righteousness, please sharpen my sword of truth, and please help me to remember who I am fighting.
Amen. So be it!!
