Economics, history, politics, science, you name it. All the opinions we have on topics we are not personally versed in come from hearsay or thumbsuck. I find myself saying very often: “I don’t know.” Funny how it seems to irritate people, as if one is almost obliged to have an opinion on a subject about which one knows nothing.

I find that the brighter and more informed someone is, then the more modest they are about it. I think this is because, as my grandmother says, “the more you know, then the more you know what you need to know.”

I’m entirely with you on that one. Heck, I don’t even know the other branches of my subject that well, once I specialized.

No, that alone makes you an ignorant. I’m not saying you are not an idiot, either, you may very well be, but not knowing much is probably one aspect of idiocy. My proficiency in idiocy, I hold as a badge of honour. That’s what God wanted to abundantly bless me with from all eternity.

I know physics/astronomy, Fortran 90, and my Faith fairly well. Outside of that, I am nearly useless.

Reminds me of the quote, “If you want to be Good, begin by believing yourself evil.” He left off “cuz ya are.”

It’s interesting to watch the program ‘Way of the Masters’ and seeing how many think they are good people and going straight to heaven (used to be me) - until they begin asking pointed questions. Watching ‘the lights come on’ in some folks is great. Has certainly changed my life (awareness of evil within).

Before beginning to receive Wisdom, I had to first come to the place where I was willing to entertain the thought that I was actually clueless. Took alcoholism and AA to knock me off my high horse of thinking I was both sane and smart.

As GK Chesterton said, “You can only find Truth with logic if you’ve already found Truth without it.”

My idiocy centered around pride and stubborness. I’m much better today but still qualify in some areas.

Being an idiot is not only a matter of not knowing a lot of things on a variety of topics but also, and primarily, not thinking clearly. Our thinking is often colored and clouded by prejudiced attitudes, motivational needs, sociocultural and experiential influences, and biological constraints. However, these are what make us human thinkers rather than behavioral robots despite their sometimes negative outcomes.

I think it comes down to who is running our world. Whoever it is they must have an unbelievable amount of innate wit that we earthlings lack almost completely.
