Say that I’m a Catholic on non-Catholic supported forums. I’m afraid my e-mail will get flamed to no end.

The reason Catholics leave ashes on their head is to be a witness to the faith. Not to show that they are doing something extra-ordinary to gain sympathy, which would be like fasting before men.
Not to elevate themselves above other people but just to show that Christianity does exist and maybe inspire someone a little.

God Bless

(I have to admit I am guilty of wiping my ashes off, in fear of someone knowing I was Catholic. This is before I knew anything about how precious my faith is.)

How about saying grace while eating at a restaurant? I get pretty self-conscious about that.

You and a lot of other folks including myself. I rarely see folks cross themselves or pause for prayer before meals, even though I know they are Catholics.

Once in a while (when I remember - shame on me) I will just pause for a few moments say my blessing and then proceed (no sign of the cross or folding hands )

Most folks won’t even notice, and if they do, so what, I could just be collectiing myself before I eat… or I may be simply mentally unbalanced which would not be far off from the truth either. 😛

I figured that was the reason. Thanks.
