Or I can never be Catholic because I will not believe the Eucharist is the actual body, blood, soul and divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ.

If you accept this one, everything else is minor…

That is the point JPII made. The Church cannot go over Jesus’ head.

Or the proposition that you can be for Roe v Wade and not violate church doctrine. Personally, I justify that by saying I’m for the separation of church and state and also, it is up to each person to live in accordance with his or her convictions and the law doesn’t prevent it.

Exactly! Why don’t Protestants want to understand that? JESUS is the Founder of the Catholic Church. No one can overturn what Jesus already established.

Chess takes thought, solving complicated problems takes thought, debate takes thought as it is persuasive in nature, dialogue on the other hand, while it can take thought, I don’t believe it to be a requirement of constructive dialogue. It can usually just free-flow with the appropriate respect, listening, questioning and stating, realizing we are all human beings in a search.

Was that question directed at me? If so, I might refer you to that question as well, since we are both adherents of the same religion, Christianity. But I might also wonder why you asked the question, since I think you know who founded our religion.

In the Catholic view, the Pope is the Head of the Catholic Church and the Bishop of Rome. Pope Tawadros may style himself as Pope but there cannot be two bishops of Rome or heads of the Catholic Church.

I don’t know why you feel the need to argue back at me. That’s now what this thread is for. But, here goes.
You made a statement, what I was trying to say is that if you want to want to maintain that Judiasm’s God is just a pagan God because the name Yahweh is the same or some characteristics are the same, then we are dealing with a genetic fallacy.

Now I’ve never heard such a claim, how are the canaanite and Hebrew God the same or how is it derivative?

I don’t think it’s a matter of Doctrine that the law must be changed. The matter of doctrine is that abortion is intrinsically evil.

It follows that we would want to work to a position where the law took a similar line. How and when that might be achieved is I think a prudential matter.

Restricting your beliefs to one religion is a sign that you’ve thought things through. A religion can restrict you, but at the same time give you freedom. For instance, say one decides to stop having premarital sex. Of course, this is a restriction, but it leaves you free from STD’s, emotional distress caused by abandonment, and pregnancy/fatherhood. You are also more free to pursue your vocation (single, religious life, marriage).

Also, the two golden rules still need clarification. Is it loving God if you ignore any of his Ten Commandments? Many feel that they can commit adultery and still show love for God. But love for God is following the Commandments. Is it loving your neighbour if you advocate for transgender rights which lead to people mutilating their bodies and taking hormone replacement drugs? So the rules of how to love have to come from somewhere.

Define spirituality.

I do believe thought is a requirement of constructive dialogue. For starters, if I start talking about the price of fish, it would be off-topic in this thread. People are guided by many rules when they write here: there are the forum rules, of course, but there is also guarding the feelings of others, protecting one’s anonymity, keeping up one’s reputation, and generally saying useful things. The OP led with a very open question, and the result is several conversations going on at once. Had he asked a pointed question, the results might have been better, at least in theory.

However, I will concede that I put equal thought into every thing I do. I put out garbage with more thought than the average person.

mack,in one of his foreign trips lately, pope francis told the crowd " focus on jesus ,not on me!".you seem to have little knowledge about the catholic faith.dont people bow infront of heroes monuments .some even lay wreath, say few words of thanksgiving for their heroic feat ,contribution for the common good etc, .this doesnt mean they worship them i have kissed the photos of my loved ones, bible, etc many times ,but it doesnt mean i worship them !

Jesus founded the Catholic Church.

King Henry VIII founded Episcopalian

Reincarnation is reality to me.
Your profile states you are Orthodox, how can you hold to belief in reincarnation at the same time?

Also, how can you reconcile belief in reincarnation with the scripture …

Hebrews 9:27
And just as it is appointed for mortals to die once, and after that the judgment,

I’m uncertain of the name of the person that asked the question concerning Papal Infallibility. Since Vatican-1, this has only happened twice; The Immaculate Conception and The Assumption. The Pope can only speak Ex-Cathedra(From the Chair), on matters of Faith and Morals.
If, however, you cannot accept this, let me tell you a short story. In 1927, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled, in the Buck vs Bell decision, “states can surgically sterilize anyone “deemed” feebleminded”. My wife’s mother was taken from her mother in 1941 and committed to Pacific Colony in California to be sterilized. She escaped the night before she was scheduled for surgery. She went on to have nine children. I married her 2nd child. Emily and I, we celebrated our Golden Anniversary last September. So, what is my point? Only ONE organization or Church spoke out against the court decision; THE CATHOLIC CHURCH! Pope Pius-11th wrote the Encyclical condemning sterilization. When a Pope writes an Encyclical, Catholics take notice, and we are bound by it. Not a problem for this Catholic! God Bless. We are: Jim and Emily…
