I don’t get it…if you are a non-Catholic Christian, then why aren’t you a Catholic Christian?
This is a serious question, so please post your reason here… Please, don’t be afraid to voice your opinion and to defend your own particular denomination.
I am not the only Catholic here at CAF, or elsewhere, who wonders and wants to know the answer to this question.
If any Catholics, or any converts to Catholicism here, have any insight to the answer, or possible answer(s) to this question, then please post a response here.

In a nutshell:

Nasty music, irreverent liturgies, un-inspiring sermons, smugness of parishoners who claim the Catholic way but haven’t a clue about what the Church really teaches, bishops and priests who are afraid to preach on the hard issues of the day, and most of all for me, other than one EF mass with lackluster music, there is nothing close by that would nurture and sustain me in the Catholic faith. I think I will stay an Anglican for the moment.

So why is a big community of the Angelican Church here in the US trying to join the Catholic Church?:eek:

That “big community” you describe is the Traditional Anglican Communion (TAC) and has a much larger presence in other countries than the US. Pope Benedict has offered the olive branch with assurances of their retaining Anglican elements, like the Book of Common Prayer to fit the Roman Mass along with tasteful, reverent music and liturgy. Lucky for them. I predict much smaller pockets here because of smaller numbers of Anglicans who actually desire this and Catholic bishops who really don’t want a bunch of energized converts showing them up. Too much work.

Let’s look at the end of what you are saying. Let’s do so by asking the logical question based on your assumptions. Why did Jesus stand by and let the CC ordain men that He knew would be pedophiles?

Then it is fair to say: Why did Jesus bother to pick 12 men? One betrayed Him and another denied in three times? I thought Jesus is God,so why would he pick them?

Well, even though im catholic I have such strong protestant views also…I try to shake them off by reading alot of proof and justification about catholics asking Saints to intercept etc etc but its impossible for some reason.

Basically i’ll tell u thiis…its 100000 times easier for a catholic to convert to protestant than the other way around. When your protestant they make you feel like you have God and Jesus with you everywhere you go and you feel safe and you can always talk to someone, however in the catholic church its more about the church itself and the relationship with Jesus is much less in my opinion.

To this day I still have thoughts about going back to the protestant church because no matter how much I try to convince myself that catholicsm is the true path, it just seems impossible.

Now I think you are way too hard on our Catholic brethren in this instance. I started out as a lad in The United Church; then in my twenties I switched to Presbyterian; and now I am Adventist - but I have gone to Catholic services, and spoken in person to some of the Priests. I can separate my disagreements with them enough to say that absolutely nothing you said here is true. Us Protestants keep saying we have the truth; yet we keep avoiding many things that are true about Catholics, thinking to bolster our “Protestantism” somehow by denigrating a) their intelligence, b) their personality, c) and a miriad of other very unimportant things that don’t prove anything about what we believe; or what they believe. While there are parts of their worship practices which I don’t like - I think it’s quite inaccurate for you to go as far as you just did in this post. I have personally seen differently - infact the opposite.

Oh; you could probably figure it out my friend! I won’t waste your time. But I will say that the Adventist Church has taught me to ALWAYS give credit where credit is due, so thats all I was doing. I hope others can follow the example, and create a little more heaven on Earth! Don’t we all need that just now? 🙂
 
I have plenty of misgivings about bits and bobs that the RC Church teaches, but that’s not my main reason for keeping out of it. To join would require me to subscribe to things that I don’t feel that there is sufficient certainty about. This isn’t aimed at any specific things… it’s more that there is sufficient space for doubt over the fundamental authority of RC teachings that means that I daren’t be so presumptuous as to think that I can know what so many sincere and upright people before me have come to opposing yet certain conclusions about.

I’m comfortable being in a baptist church, because baptists don’t like to sign creeds. They see them as a snapshot of a particular group’s understanding of God (and things pertaining to Her) at a particular time.
