In part:**

Interviewer:** Little has been written about your stance on reproductive rights. Are you pro-choice?
**
“Bishop” Gene Robinson, Episcopal Church: **Absolutely. The reason I love the Episcopal Church is that it actually trusts us to be adults. In a world where everyone tries to paint things as black or white, Episcopalians feel pretty comfortable in the gray areas.

I’m sure there must be individual congregations, and certainly individuals, who are off the deep end about this issue, but for the most part, the stance that we have taken speaks to our people as a mature and adult way of dealing with this - that we protect a woman’s right to choose but also say that obviously there are very deep things involved here.

So we encourage our folks to take this very private issue seriously. We urge them to talk to their priests about it and to think through all the questions they might have. And then we absolutely stand behind a woman’s right to choose. I think that’s a responsible place to be.

**Interviewer: Has abortion been a divisive issue in your church?
**
“Bishop” Gene Robinson, Episcopal Church:
Not really - surprisingly. From time to time it has come up, but the church has steadfastly resisted efforts to retract in any way our support for a woman’s choice.

You’ve said, “We have allowed the conservative religious right to take our Bible hostage, and I think it’s time we took it back.” How can people who are both religious and progressive reclaim religion?

It’s time that we re-familiarize ourselves with our sacred text, so that we can interpret it for the world, and not let the only voice that Americans hear from a Christian standpoint be those wildly conservative voices.

As a gay man, I find stories in both Hebrew and Christian scripture that have literally called me out. For instance, in the Passover story, I know what it’s like to leave Egypt, or leave the closet. The ancient Israelites, instead of finding the Promised Land immediately, wandered the desert, and I know, too, that life doesn’t immediately get better for you. At the same time, as a whole community, we’re getting closer to the Promised Land all the time.

I think it’s time we learn to tell those stories out of our own context again, so that people speaking biblically and from a place of faith are not just wild-eyed conservatives.

The Episcopal Candy Bar:

A hard outer shell that looks “Catholic” in it’s liturgy (if you ignore the female priestesses) and on the inside the soft and gooey doctrines that will rot your soul away.

Thanks whoever came up with this analogy!

It hurts me when a Christian says that any human life is meaningless. Anyone who supports abortion does so.

That is why they are fracturing. There is NO MORAL SOLID GROUND in Anglicanism/Episcopals.

I went to Trinity Cathedral to hear Bishop Robinson speak…a very dynamic speaker who speaks right from his heart. I admire the man, in the midst of controversy concerning his vocation he has received death threats, hate mail, protesters at his engagements…and has kept a kind and Christ-like spirit about him.

If only he could follow Christ’s teachings and not lead others to hell.

I heard a statement one time and I think it really fits here, and is ONE of the reasons I love the Church.

Satan’s favorite color is gray…

Didn’t Christ say something in the Gospels about not being “lukewarm???”

This blasphemous and fake “bishop” condones baby genocide in the name of God. How evil.

The man is a false prophet whom we can judge through his evil fruit.

Nope…abortion is not simply a black or white matter. tiger.towson.edu/users/bpahl1/pros%20and%20cons%20page.htm

That sights gives pros and cons of abortion. I always like to see both sides of the arguement. I feel that getting an abortion is a very, very difficult descision. I do support the woman’s right to choose. Abortion is tragic, but it is a complicated matter. Personally, I do not the Roman Catholic Church doesn’t really have the right to stop abortion, as it is made up of only men. If you do keep the baby, that’s great! If not, then we must support the woman in her time of distress.

These are just my thoughts…

This bishop can’t be a false prophet, as he does not claim to predict the future. It’s just his opinion. Oh, but I know…if it’s not your belief, it must be satan, right? How convenient.

Let he who has never sinned cast the first stone…Do not judge unless you wished to be judged yourself!

abortion is baby killing pure and simple. HOW CAN IT NOT BE EVIL!!!

Baloney. Abortion has been condemned since the very beginning:

2271. "Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law: You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish. [Didache 2, 2: SCh 248, 148; cf. Ep. Barnabae 19, 5: PG 2, 777; Ad Diognetum 5, 6: PG 2, 1173; Tertullian, Apol. 9: PL 1, 319-320.] God, the Lord of life, has entrusted to men the noble mission of safeguarding life, and men must carry it out in a manner worthy of themselves. Life must be protected with the utmost care from the moment of conception: abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes. [GS 51 # 3.]"

2272. "Formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense. The Church attaches the canonical penalty of excommunication to this crime against human life. ‘A person who procures a completed abortion incurs excommunication latae sententiae,’ [CIC, can. 1398.] ‘by the very commission of the offense,’ [CIC, can. 1314.] and subject to the conditions provided by Canon Law. [Cf. CIC, cann. 1323-1324.] The Church does not thereby intend to restrict the scope of mercy. Rather, she makes clear the gravity of the crime committed, the irreparable harm done to the innocent who is put to death, as well as to the parents and the whole of society."

2274. "Since it must be treated from conception as a person, the embryo must be defended in its integrity, cared for, and healed, as far as possible, like any other human being. Prenatal diagnosis is morally licit, ‘if it respects the life and integrity of the embryo and the human fetus and is directed toward its safe guarding or healing as an individual… It is gravely opposed to the moral law when this is done with the thought of possibly inducing an abortion, depending upon the results: a diagnosis must not be the equivalent of a death sentence.’ [CDF, Donum vitae I, 2.]"

**2322. “From its conception, the child has the right to life. Direct abortion, that is, abortion willed as an end or as a means, is a ‘criminal’ practice (GS 27 # 3), gravely contrary to the moral law. The Church imposes the canonical penalty of excommunication for this crime against human life.”

Let us confine this to the 93% of abortions that are not involving rape, incest, or the life of the mother for just a second.
  1. You had a choice when you got intimit with a man
  2. You had a choice when you removed you clothes
  3. You had a choice when you had intercourse
Now, you have made the WRONG choice every time. Why do you need another one? And if you do, are you ready for the mental issues that may come with it? What about the health issues.
What choice does the baby have? NONE. It did not choose to be concieved. I am sorry that this is the way it is. Who speaks for the baby?

Yes, I am a man. Yes, I have every right to speak on this. Do you know why? I am a Christian and I must protect life. I am impartial. See, as I cannot be faced with the choice, I have no vested interest one way or the other. Finally, I would not have wanted to be aborted myself.

Personally, I do not the Roman Catholic Church doesn’t really have the right to stop abortion, as it is made up of only men
Then allow a woman to speak;

"When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting the infant leapt in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy spirit cried out saying “Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb” Luke 1:41-42

OK, Tiger, well… first of all, 50% of the Roman Catholic Church are women, and always have been… give or take a few hundredths of a percentage point. That’s just basic demographics.

Secondly, however you may sugarcoat it, if the right to life is not secure… how can any other right matter? One has a right to privacy… assuming one survives the womb? One has a right to choose if that one was lucky enough to get born? Come on! This isn’t hard! It really isn’t!

Maybe we should abort because the parents aren’t ready to be parents. Maybe we should abort because poverty is bad. Maybe we should abort because we’re too young, too poor, too immature, Maybe the mother was raped or a victim of incest. Criminal to be sure. But should someone be put to death because of the circumstances of their conception? Abortions are merely human sacrifices to the God of convenience. It’s not Christian, it’s not right. Wasn’t. Isn’t. Can’t be. Ever.

Well, if a tree is known by it’s “fruit”, I would say his response to the death threats, hate filled remarks, thrown rocks, hate mail he’s received at the hands of those who claim to be “Christian”…his repsone has been in accordance to the words of Jesus…“turn the other cheek”…“pray for those who revile you and say all manner of evil against you for my sake…”…Bishop Robinson is living in the Light…hands down.

Same old same old from the Episcopal Bishop of New Hampshire.

Kyrie eleison

If this man was truly living in the “light” as you say, then he wouldn’t be putting trust in man’s judgment instead of God’s. The quotes he has from this article shows me, IMHO, that he cares not what God wills him or his followers to do. He’s following his own agenda, following his own rules, and justifying them by connecting it to God somehow. That is not a leader for Christ - that is a deceiver.

I hold Bishop Robinson and you in the Light.

Peace to you.
