I Don't Want Any Friends

I’m another woman who prefers the company of men, with the qualification that I have 4-5 female friends I can REALLY talk to, and the only thing they have in common is that they’re not too “girly”… 🤷

Talking about hairdos, diets, makeup, boys, gossiping about other women nauseates me, but I’m also not too keen on cars, football and fishing as conversation topics (though I greatly prefer them to makeup, diets and gossiping. And I do go fishing with dh, I’m just not interested in discussing it
You sound like me. I have several male friends but only two close female friends, both of whom are “low maintenance” like I am: minimal makeup, simple hairstyles, not into fashion/jewelry/material things. Unfortunately, neither lives nearby so I don’t see them regularly, but we do email frequently. I have other female acquaintances, mostly coworkers, whom I hang out with on occasion, but my relationship with them is pretty superficial. And when they want to do something “girly,” like having a product-sales party or going shopping at the mall, I find an excuse not to go. I loathe shopping malls, and they wouldn’t want to shop at my favorite stores, anyway – the hardware/home improvement stores, the thrift shops, and the flea market. I’d rather stay home with my cats! But I’m careful not to let on that I think the things they want to do are stupid or a waste of time. They just aren’t my cup of tea, but to each her own. I’m also one of those rare females who doesn’t like to talk on the phone. But since I still have dial-up internet service and only one phone line, that isn’t often a problem! 😃

So, in answer to the OP’s question, you’re perfectly fine as long as you are content with your lot in life. If this becomes troublesome to you, then you might want to explore ways to increase your socialization. But if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

My husband is my best friend. I have 3 other friends, Cheryl, Savannah and Starr. I don’t need or want a large circle of CLOSE friends. I do have MANY people I know and if I would introduce them to you, it would probably be as a “friend”, but my circle of close friends is small, it’s much easier to maintain that way, at least for me it is. I also work a lot, so I really do not have time to socialize, I am not the type to and do lunch, or go on a shopping spree with anyone other than my husband, of course, I don’t have any sisters so I never had that kind of girly relationship with anyone. God Bless.🙂

:yup:
I wonder how much one’s popularity with other women depends on how much juicy gossip about others one has to dish.
Yes I think one must be invited to the inner circle of friends and this seems to rest on just how much one has to offer.

I for one am not a part of the inner ladies circle of friends. I try to get along with the other ladys, after all one must be civilized, but that’s as far as it goes for me also. I used to have a telephone you and get together every once in a while woman to woman friendships. However the more my daily duties have increased due to more kids and etecetera the less time I have to chit chat in a meaningful one on one manner and I’ve just never fit into any social group really.
It’s nice to know that i’m not alone though as far as not having other women friendships. I think socially women are expected or viewed as being more socially connected and supportive than men are, but what if for various reasons beyond ones control a woman isn’ t the typical social chicken in the chicken pen.

I find comfort in the “Divine Mercies Diary” of sister Faustina. Also I don’t think St. Terese of Liseaux had any other earthly friendships outside of her sisters and her father. Did not St. Teresa de Avila caution her nuns against gossip and against adressing one another in terms of endearments. Also St. Faustina cautions against being an overly talkative soul for one does not spend enough alone time in one’s walk with God.

Will someone please write a book about being a Catholic woman in church related social settings.
