I can’t say I’m actually religious, but I do try not to sin going by the bible.

one of my friends are Catholic.

Now from what I read up Masturbation is sinful to the Catholics for several reasons, I respect that and all. but my friend argues that the bible too condems Masturbation.

I have never read this before. can anyone here tell me if the bible itself actually reffers to masturbation as a sin or even at all?

I hear the Catholics have some books the other bible does not have so perhaps it mentions it in them

However the think about that is I believe you are talking about Onan or whatever his name is, what he did is far different then masturbation.

So thats commiting adultery not masturbation, because he was getting sex off of someone elses life but refusing to get her preganate like he was suppose to.

So thats alot different then masturbation not only is it adultery but its not self pleasure, which masturbation is, but I can see the whole thing about the self pleasure you said at the begging.

Scripture condemns the practice when it mentions it. Once a moral principle has been established in the Bible, every possible application of it need not be mentioned. For example, the general principle that theft is wrong was clearly established in Scripture; but there’s no need to provide an exhaustive list of every kind of theft

You’re right what he did was called “Coitus interruptus”. “Coitus interruptus” means to withdrawal before ejaculation.

“Coitus Interruptus” is also a form of contraception known as “Onanism”.

The name “Onanism” gets its name from Onan. (It’s named after the man that practiced it.) Just like homosexuality has historically been known as “Sodomy,” after the men of Sodom. (Gen 19)

If you do a google search for “Onanism” you will see that masturbation is a form of “Onanism”.

Christianity came from Judaism. The early Christians had the same views as this. The early Christians had the same broad view as this when it came to the passage of Onan.

That is why Masturbation is “historically” known as a form of Onanism.

In Catholicism Masturbation is considered to be “grave matter”. Things are “Grave Matter” if they go against the 10 commandments. Catholicism sees masturbation as going against one of the 10 commandments: Thou Shall not commit Adultery.

Grave Matter is 1 of the 3 things need to make something a “Mortal Sin”

In Catholicism for something to be a Mortal Sin 3 things are needed. 1) Grave Matter 2) Full knowledge and 3) deliberate consent.

Therefore, in Catholicism if a Catholic had FULL KNOWLEDGE that Masturbation IS GRAVE MATTER and DELIBRATELY and WILLFULLY masturbated they have committed a Mortal Sin and must go to confession.

Actually, I believe it is a grave sin, meaning that it is usually mortal, but could be mitigated to venial under certain specific circumstances (in this case, extreme immaturity / ignorance of youth or additction).

Ummm … astonishing as this may sound, people don’t actually NEED sex, not the slightest bit. Not if their lives are sufficiently filled with other pursuits.

I wouldnt really consider masterbation sex per-se… I dont know. You are right about sex, ppl who need it are foolish but I always thought of masterbation as a necessary evil. Much like eating, sleeping, using the washroom etc.

me being a male, things can get very unpleasant if one goes too long w/o it. Cant think straight, hard to concetrate, irritability, finding women you wouldnt find attractive sexy etc.

For as unpleasant masterbation may be in retro-spec, it sure beats having to go out and having sex with everyone

I did include masturbation in my definition of sex - it isn’t necessary. Here’s a test - imagine you were in the middle of the act so to speak, and someone walked in on you, making you highly embarrassed. You’d stop what you were doing right away (at least I hope you would).

You wouldn’t continue and complete the act regardless because you allegedly simply couldn’t stop. Now if you can stop mid-act like that then you don’t need it. Simple.

Of course you’ll argue that you can cease eating or drinking in spite of the fact that you need to do those things. Difference being they literally ARE needs. You literally will die if you cease all eating and drinking. You won’t literally die or anything like if you ceased all sex and masturbation as of this minute. It’s a mere habit, and not a useful one at that.

lol I may very well be an addict but meh, aint harming no body I consider it more of a maintance thing than something for pleasure thou hehe

As for it being unacceptable outside, well that could be because of instincts/society. Ppl feel weird having sex outside and thats cause they are put in a vulnerable position. Imagine if our ansestors did it outside, theyd get eaten left and right!
