I don’t have to ask a priest like you if that was taking the Lord’s name in vane. I am not angry, again that is YOUR word. YOU need to give him the credit, I already gave it to him. YOUR opinion of him is poor, that is why YOU are telling him it’s a Mortal sin and he’s going to hell. What a nerve to try and twist things around. Are you sure your on the right forum? Saying “oh my God” is NOT taking the Lord’s name in vane. Get a life…
Bella where did AlegeFe say santaro75 is going to hell?

I’ve looked over AlegeFe post and I don’t see where AlegeFe told Santaro75 that he is going to hell.

So will you please point that out for me; what post number is that in??

Sorry bella, but as told before in another thread in another forum that was locked, YOU ARE WRONG and so is your priest.

But if a young boy masturbates and does not know that masturbation is a grave matter he is not committing a sin. BUT that does not mean that he is to be left in the dark. He must be told that the act of masturbation is of grave matter. Once he knows this and does not stop then he is committing a mortal sin. He must confess this and ask for graces to help him stop. And there is nothing wrong with feeling guilty about something. If one did not feel guilty then how would they stop committing mortal sin?

I guess you would have to understand the purity of chastity to understand that masturbation is a MORTAL SIN.
Here you go Mommyof(how many?) saying it’s a Mortal sin is the same as saying your going to hell if you do it.

NO it’s NOT!!!

Why do you think there is confession???

We have sacrament of confession because people commit “Mortal Sins”.
We go to confession so we can be “FORGIVEN”: what sins you forgive will be forgiven in Heaven; what sins you retain will be retain in Heaven.

We seek forgiveness, through the sacrament of confession, so our sins will be forgiven!!
God loves us and forgives all Sins that we are truly sorry for; His love and Forgiveness means we have hope for eternal life with HIM in Heaven.

Telling someone that they may of committed a Mortal Sin does not mean you are telling them they are going to hell. You are just pointing out to them they are a sinner, and they should seek forgiveness from God. We ALL are sinners!!! We ALL should be seeking forgiveness from God for ALL our sins EVERY DAY!!!

Have you Bella ever committed a Mortal Sin???
I can tell you have!! Will I go to Hell for it??? I hope not!!! Why? Well, I confessed that sin, through the sacrament of confession, and I have hope and faith the God has forgiven me.

You see Bella this is how I few my salvation: I am already saved, but I’m also being saved, and I have the hope that I will be saved. Like the apostle Paul I am working out my salvation in fear and trembling, with hopeful confidence in the promises of Christ."

Every day I’m working on my salvation. Every day I ask God to forgive my sins; I realize when I commit “Mortal Sins” and when I commit Mortal Sins I go to confession. Yes, it’s true that time-to-time I confess venial sins in the confessional, however the true purpose of the confessional is to confess Mortal Sins.

I have hopeful confidence that because I confess my Mortal Sins, in the confessional, that I will be in Heaven as the Lord has promise.

Telling someone that is or that is a Mortal Sin is not telling him or her they are going to hell. It’s informing their conscience. We are to have informed conscience: This is how we tell what is right and what is wrong.

Remember in order for something to be a Mortal Sin 3 things need to be in place:
  1. Grave Matter
  2. Full Knowledge
  3. Deliberate and Willful consent.
Masturbation is Grave Matter. So it has 1 of the 3 things needed to make it a Mortal Sin.
The only other things needed are Full Knowledge and Willful/Deliberate consent.

If you have all 3 things then you have a Mortal Sin! Are you going to Hell for it? Well it depends if you have sought God’s forgiveness. If you have sought God’s forgiveness and are truly sorry for the sin, then you should have hopeful confidence that He has forgiven you and that you will someday be in Heaven with Him.

Here you go Mommyof(how many?)
What is that suppose to mean? I hope and pray that you weren’t making a slam of how many children I have or do not have. If I recall from the other thread you only have 2 wonderful children yourself. (Both boys I believe, and a gift from God I’m sure)

I was a victim on non-consensual masturbation once. But I can’t really bring myself to talk about it.

Valke, I know you’re Jewish. However, in your case Catholicism would NOT see what happen to YOU as a “Mortal” sin.

You would not be guilty of “Mortal Sin” seeing you stated that was non-consensual on YOUR part.

God Bless.

I forgot how many children you have…you need to relax…

Oh, as long as it being non-consensual, I really think she takes you seriously Valke…what a riot…it’s not a Mortal sin for you…oh by the way, you don’t believe in Jesus…hello anyone home? :whacky:

How do you know that Valke2 was joking?
Why do you do think it’s NOT possible for someone to be a victim of masturbation?
Why do you think it’s NOT possible for someone to be forced to masturbate against his/her will? Why do you think it’s NOT possible for someone to be addicted to masturbation?

It doesn’t matter if Valke2 believes in Jesus or Not. I was just simply stated how that moment would be view in Catholicism. There are other people that read these forums and threads.

There could have been a Catholic that read that and had the same thing or similar thing happen to them. I’m not only speaking to Valke2 but to everyone that reads these threads: It’s a public forum.

It doesn’t matter if Valke believes in Jesus or not?? Oh my, you truly need to look at yourself and your contradictions over and over. You haven’t a clue. :nope:

Saying “oh my God” is NOT taking the Lord’s name in vane.
This is a good point to consider.

The answer to this is it depends. Vanity, especially in the context of the commandment, Thou shall not take the name of the Lord in vain means that we shall not use His name irreverently or out of the proper context.

Vanity, fundamentally, is using a word or object, in a manner which abuses the original intent. Therefore, if like, i use the word, like, like this, I like, using the word, like in, like, vain.

Hence, the application of God’s name should be used in prayer, teaching, and situations where it makes sense.

If I have a bumper stick that says, “The San Diego Chargers football team is the team that God would root for”, I have broken the commandment of the Lord because that is vain usage of the word.

Do not be fooled that vanity is simply using the Lords name angrily. This was my belief for about 22 years until I was properly catechized.

From tradition, we know that during the feast of Yom Kippor, the High Priest, would have a rope tied around his body when he entered the Holy of Holies and offered Sacrifice. The High Priest would pronounce the name of the Lord, once, and the rope was there just in case he did so irreverently. You may find this extreme but I say our culture have successfully turned phrases like “Jesus Christ!” or “God!” or even worse, etc, into an emotional expression rather than a prayer.

God Bless you.

Honey, Valke is very good, but I’m better at catching his snide remarks and his BS. He wil think you are gullible, but not me. That’s why he ignores my answers, b/c he knows I’ve got him all figured out…Don’t you Valke…

Umm I have said “oh my God, how beautiful my child is” when he was born. Will you people stop this nonsense? It’s getting pretty redundant now.

Hi bella5100, I did not accuse you of anything. Read the post. I simply answered a question that comes up often.

It isn’t my job to be concerned with whether or not you sinned.

Yes it seems pretty much impossible to be like Jesus. But we have the Sacramental Graces here in the Catholic Church to help us out. That is Jesus reaching out to us. He is right here substantially present so that we can receive Him and pray in front of Him in Adoration.

I never said that you would go to hell for this. I merely pointed out that masturbation is a sin then pointed you to some links. So I hope you don’t think that I was judging you. :nope: I’m not.

And yes, I am a sinner. 😦 My weakness is being lazy sometimes. I also don’t pray as often as I should. I try not to talk to my girlfriend on the phone because then the gossip might creep in. 😦 Instead I just wait to see her at family gatherings. (my gf happens to be my sis-in-law). Being on the computer for long periods of time is one of my weaknesses too.
well masterbation is a mortal sin, and if i died right now, my merciful God would send me to enternal HELL. That is what the RCC teaches. I believe we all think there is something flawed about this teaching. It contradicts the whole benevolent, God whose Son was beaten and died for my sins.
