I feel I let God down by allowing myself to get frustrated over my new computer breaking. It’s tough worshiping Him properly when in such a state. We need to be indifferent to the passing things in the world, and do all that we do for the glory of God. To flunk out in this worldly life need not be a bad thing.

Does God ever not answer our prayers? In worldly things, yes. But not so with spiritual things, like providing us with the grace of devotion, which usually results in peace and calm.

It’s only human, we are our severest judge sometimes and expect more from ourselves then we should. So when we fail, or seem to fail, why be surprised, after all we are fallible, that’s the truth we all must face. Because of this we experience the need for God, and that is a grace in itself, and that is great. God humbles us, to give us more grace. This doesn’t come to those who try very hard to perfect themselves, and in a sense, not let the Holy Spirit do the perfecting by trusting Him. Sufficient for the day, is the evil thereof. To be faithful to God no matter the negative feelings or circumstances is greater then to love God with spiritual consolations. God grants them in His time, and His time is the best.

We’re all only human, Robert, and often we get frustrated, lack patience, behave arrogantly, turn a blind eye, make all kinds of mistakes. But G-d gives us the means of repentance for our negative behavior through prayer, good deeds, and seeking to ameliorate the wrong we inflicted on others and on ourselves. Let us be grateful for the fact that G-d is ever merciful in forgiveness for our misdeeds toward Him and our fellow (human) beings. Be at peace.

I will pray for you. I got pretty mad at myself yesterday for some reason and can relate to you. It is truly hard to worship Him in that state. Let’s both pray to St. Jerome, who was known for having a bad temper but is still a saint.

I was thinking the other day about how generous He is and it really hit me that He not only is generous in providing for whatever we ask for, but I’ve found in my experience that He gives us the gift of being able to learn and grow over the time we ask Him as well.

What a positive affirmation of your relationship with God! Think of those who don’t even consider if a thought, word, or action let our Lord down. And, in agreement, with others - we all feel this way (more often than not for me) so please don’t beat yourself up!

Just get up and keep on going…the Lord is at your side helping you.

I feel the opposite. I feel most of the time that God has let me down. I know I am not supposed to think that way, but I do.

I was feeling similarly dejected before confession this weekend. Father reminded me that as humans, we are all sinners, and that God loves us as we are. Yes, he wants us to change for the better, but he loves us unconditionally as we are. He reminded me not to forget that- and I pass that on to you.

God bless you.

There have been times I’ve almost not gone to Church because I’ve felt in just a very bad mood. It was just a passing temptation to skip going, mostly out of guilt, because I feared I would be receiving Communion in an unworthy state. But every time I’ve had this happen, I’ve just still gone, and once I walk in, down the aisle, and was inside the sanctuary, I left my mood behind me. Just something about being inside of the church that takes away a mood, even if you felt it all the way there.

Robert,

I read quite a few of your posts, and I am somewhat concerned about you. Do you not feel blessed by God? I feel like you don’t enjoy life in the way I would like you to. Maybe depression, or your perception of God is different from the one I have. The God who died for you and pours himself out in the body and blood of Christ wants you to know how much he loves you. When he was on the cross he was thinking of his love for us, not some small possible venial sin you may or may not have committed. I wish you wouldn’t spend too much time worrying about the little things.

God bless

“Do not despair over your shortcomings. Start over each day. You make spiritual progress by continually beginning again and again.” - St. Francis de Sales

Ponder these beautiful words of Our Lord to Sr. Benigna Consolata (Servant of God): "Thou canst not conceive the pleasure I take in fulfilling My Mission of Saviour. When sins have been pardoned, they become for the soul fountains of graces because they are perpetual sources of humility. Everything contributes to the advancement of a soul, everything; even her imperfections are in My divine hands like so many precious stones, because I change them into acts of humility, which I inspire the soul to make. If those who build houses could transform the debris and all that obstructs their work into materials of construction, how fortunate they would consider themselves! Well, the faithful soul does this with the aid of My divine grace; and her faults, even the gravest and most shameful, become fundamental stones of the edifice of her perfection.”

Psalm 42

10 I will say to God, my rock:
“Why do you forget me?
Why must I go about mourning
with the enemy oppressing me?”
11 It shatters my bones, when my adversaries reproach me,
when they say to me every day: “Where is your God?”
12 Why are you downcast, my soul,
why do you groan within me?
Wait for God, for I shall again praise him,
my savior and my God.

Frustration is like a thieve that robs you of your precious, God given grace.

But frustration, like every other emotion, is temporary. You give frustration its due and then you change your attitude and move on with the help of G-d and other people who care about you. You need not wallow in feelings of misery and despair. G-d has not made us to wallow in negativity. Also remember that none of us is perfect; we make mistakes by letting down G-d and people, but we try to learn from those mistakes and do better the next time.

Perhaps there is a healing needed. If I remember correctly, you had troubles with your father, especially in his treatment of you, am I correct? Many times when we expect better especially from those closest to us, like a parent, and we don’t receive it, it causes great hurt. We try to satisfy them to be pleasing to them, and it appears we fail, they don’t respond. We sometimes fail to realize that they, or someone close, can not give what they don’t possess. Especially if they are not in the state of grace, or practice christian virtue. It may even be that they were treated badly in life by their parents. We can feel very frustrated, and even angry at them. If we understood all of the forces, or influences that a person suffers in their personal life, I truly believe that we would have more compassion for them inspite of their behavior toward us. Jesus says to forgive even those who are our enemies, but when we don’t consider some who we know are not our enemy, but still treat us unkindly, especially when we don’t expect it can hurt us deeply. an enemy can be ignored, but someone whom we love, and causes us rejection, or does not return love can cause us greater pain, and sadness, especially if we expect it.

You must be thinking of someone else. I’m was always in good standing with my parents.

I seldom pray for myself, and when I do I pray for spiritual discipline and the grace to love God as I ought. Seeing that a stupid computer made me frustrated is evidence in my eyes that I’m still attached to worldly things.

We are all on different paths, with each path requiring a different set of discipline. Look, for example, at all the discipline needed to become a great pianist. If they can devote so much discipline for something worldly, how much more should we discipline ourselves for the sake of God?

The Tanya, BTW, places a strong emphasis against things worldly, just as do the Hermits and Monks in Catholicism. Not a sin if you do, but strongly advised against.
