So, in a previous post, I introduced myself and shared a little of my life’s journey. In short, I am returning to Catholism after a long time away.

I have taken steps to set my spiritual life in order. I have met with the parish priest. I’m already very fond of him, even before meeting him personally. SO we had the initial meeting. I’ve been in contact with him since. Is it a sad thing that the only personal email I have is communications between myself and my priest? Strange thing. It is a very efficient way to get questions answered, it was his suggestion as he gave me his card. In our meeting, he said we could to reconciliation then, but he didn’t want to put me on the spot and he wanted me to reflect first. Not sure if I had the deer in the headlight look for him to say that, but I was grateful for a little time. This was Tuesday.

So, I decided last night that this morning was the day. I was up at 7, got all the church mission donations ready to bring when I went to confession that is 9-11. Got there, dropped the donations, think I over did it by all the looks I got…lol, lots of personal care items and such too. But I have been putting it together for awhile, just hadn’t made it there yet…anyway

So I went out and parked, went in… I couldn’t find the confessionals! 😊 I feel like a fool! I knew where they were back home, but not here. There was a service going on as well. I don’t recall there being an overlap in the bulletin. SO…😊 it didn’t happen!!! I looked from every angle, went down the corridor, I looked for 15 or so minutes. I couldn’t find it!

Leave it to me to get confused and lost. Before I lost my nerve, since I haven’t been to confession since prior to my confirmation, I emailed Fr. and asked to schedule an appt. Then he can walk me through the WHOLE process, including…WHERE IT IS.

😦

Don’t feel silly. I recently went to a Church outside my diocese for confession as I was traveling. I walked into the parish during their confessional hours which were right before mass. I asked a few of the ladies that were parishioners there where their confessionals were and apparently they didn’t know either. 😦

I discussed this with an older parishioner while we waited for the priest she said it was sad that no one ever really came to Confession but they all took Eucharist. She also said that she hoped seeing a younger person come in for a visit and ask for that particular Sacrament may help and embarass some of them in to it. Just know that you are taking the right steps and someday you will look back and laugh at this and your story will put someone else at ease.

Don’t feel to bad. Our confessional is tucked away in the most hidden part of the church. No one can tell where it is, not even if confessions are being heard at the time.

In the early 1980’s my husband was stationed in South Carolina. We went to a small parish on the outskirts of Charleston. The First time I went to confession there, it was in the “Reconcilliation room”. I opened the door and Father was sitting right there facing me as I walked in. I quickly shut the door thinking I opened the wrong door. Then I tried the door No. 2 but that was the janitor’s closet. I was so embarrassed opening and closing doors and finally realized that No. 1 was the only way in and had to walk past the priest to go behind the screen which was my preference. I hope most pastors are more consciencious about the proper way to set up a Reconcilliation Room. Our current pastor seldom uses the Reconcilliation Room unless it is requested. Sometimes people in wheel chairs need it. And it is used when we have a Penance Service with several priests available.

That ain’t silly…

I guess I feel that way when I play hunt the Tabernacle in some churches when travelling:o
