I have no doubts….None!

I believe in Jesus Christ and His Roman Catholic Church.

So, I don’t understand why there are so many here, who have doubts and seem insecure about their faith.

How many here, are absolutely 100% sure of their faith and how many of you have doubts… and why?

I wish you had put a “I’m not sure.” choice, because I am certain that Jesus Christ is the Messiah and the the Roman Catholic Church is the true church. But I’m not sure how strong my own faith (in God) is.

St. Thomas walked with Jesus, but had his doubts. His doubts, however, lead to strong faith. “Doubting Thomas” was the first disciple to confess that Jesus was Lord and God. His doubts lead him to faith, so much so that Thomas went on to India to preach and convert.

Those who had dreams and hopes destroyed often fall into doubt - as did Job of the Old Testament. But God didn’t turn away from Job because of his doubts - nor did He turn away from the Israelites, and our Psalms contain many hymns of lament where God’s presence and power were doubted.

If you have no doubts, Jimmy, great. However, some folks who have lost much and had much destroyed do have their doubts. Working through those doubts makes faith stronger and surer.

I’m not sure if boasting that we have no doubts is very wise.

I was the pastor to a man who was wrongfully imprisoned for a heinous crime he was later cleared of; he was incarcerated for 4 years. He lost his job, lost his family because they did not want to be associated with a man who could have committed such a crime, and he lost his friends who felt likewise. He was previously a very respected man in his community, and very devout in faith. After this experience, his doubts were innumerable.

It taught me that no one is immune to doubt; my parishioner, Thomas, or Job. God can redeem our doubt, though, and increase our faith.

I have doubts. Lots of them. People without doubts scare me.

I don’t have doubts that this Church is really his Church. I know it is 100%.

What I do doubt however, sometimes, I doubt that God really does care about me. I’m a very big sinner, and the passage “I will close my ears on those who call on my name saying “I have preached in your name…”” Ect. I don’t know where it is, but I know it’s in the Bible somewhere…

I doubt He cares about me sometimes…

If I had doubts, I never would have converted! 😉 I know for sure that the Catholic Church is the One, Holy,Catholic, and Apostolic Church started by Jesus, and that Jesus is Lord of everything. My only doubt is that I can follow His teachings as well as I should, sinner that I am. That is why I love the Divine Mercy devotion, so I can just say, “Jesus, I trust in You!”

I have doubts all the time. St. Thomas is my patron saint! 👍

I don’t generally. Every so often I get fleeting doubts mostly that there is nothing more than the material.

Couldn’t have said it better! I love being Catholic!

I concur with the people who have doubts. My doubts are not about God anymore. I find the arguments of some Orthodox/Conservative Jews strong.

Just starting RCIA, I still have doubts…not many…Marian dogmas are hardest for me. I haven’t joined HLS club just yet.

Keep plugging along… I had alot of issues with Mary when I converted. God worked them out. 👍

Lot’s of faith that Jesus is the Son of God. But even Satan has that kind of faith.

Often I worry because I think things will go badly in my life. They say that’s a sign that we lack faith! So I don’t know how to answer.

Sort of an in between… I don’t know how to express it.

My reason is weak and human, so sometimes I can’t understand. Sometimes it’s hard to accept. But because I believe wholeheartedly that God reveals His Truth to us through the Catholic Church, I obey anyway.

Like Hilaire Belloc said, faith is an act of will, and not a mood. He made the analogy to walking at night in the rain. To your weary and cold self, your destinations seems thirty miles away. Your map says three miles. By your will you accept that it is three miles, however you feel it may be.

Thus too with faith. I have feelings of doubt, confusion, and disbelief… but with my will I acknowledge firmly that my map, the Church, is right, and I submit and obey regardless of where my emotions are pulling me.

I guess, then, I would say that I’m 100% sure. I’m so sure that no matter what my feelings and even my faulty reason may tell me, I know that the Catholic Church is true.

**There is no doubt in my mind that God exists, due to an experience of mine, but sadly I may add that if I didn’t have this experience, would I still have this much faith?
I have studied the Catholic church, the history and the Holiness which surrounds it and I am convinced it is the church established by Christ…or I wouldn’t be in it. **

I have doubt when I read about the earlier Christians who thought one was damned if he committed even one mortal sin after his baptism. What if they are actually right?

Then I remember that Tertullian was a heretic, and a few other things, but still…

I think the ECFs make it real easy to be sure:thumbsup: … perhaps if it weren’t for that historical evidence it would be a bit tougher… but with them you just get that final assurance that the CC is where it’s at:)

I don’t doubt Christ and his salvific work nor the Holy Trinity. I have absolute faith in the Sacraments and in the Church as being made up of Bishops with Apostolic succession. However even though I am not a traditionalist I do have certain doubts about how far the Mass seems to have departed from the Liturgies of the first millennium and I have serious doubts concerning the Immaculate conception - not so much in doubting the doctrine but more in doubting what the Church says about original sin and therefore I doubt the need for the doctrine.

I think its perfectly normal to have doubts and I lay them before the Lord and pray about them. I study theology at university at the moment so I look into the history and theology of what I doubt as well but ultimately the Lord will guide me and I will come to know him and the fullness of his revelation at a time He sees fit. We can do nothing more than enter into a relationship with Him and through the Sacraments and out own prayers try and come to know Him as well as we can in this world before we come to know Him completely on the last day.

I don’t think it would be “faith” if we “knew for sure”.

That being said, I came to “faith” through an act of grace and that faith is strong. I pray daily for the courage and wisdom to live out that faith and my studies and prayers have led me to the Catholic Church.

I trust in God and in His Word and I have come to believe in the power of Apostolic Succession (which is supported by His Word and the historical records of the early Church going back to Apostolic times). That is comforting.

We will all find out some day “for sure.”

Blessings,

Brian

I doubt He cares about me sometimes…
i can apply this to myself also…i am a big sinner too (at times) and it is during and after my bouts of selfishness that i doubt that i really do love God…
for that matter sometimes i even doubt i truly love my wife because of my sinfulness.
it is when i deeply doubt God cares for me i fall hard.so try not to doubt He doesn’t care for me,but i do question if He even will listen to my pleas for help,OT from lean memory"this people is a prevese peolpe their prayers are like dirty rags before me"…
but i remind myself with some of the advice i have read here at CAF that the devil will even use scripture for his own means.
