Hi Irish Joe, šŸ‘‹ **

From your posts you appear to be highly judgemental, condescending and are not helping.
**
Is that what you got from CatsandDog posts? I though they were well though out and insightful. He is attempting to have you improve your posts by letting you know of your poor spelling. I am ashamed I saw it from your original post and just ignored it knowing it was tied into the entire problem. You don’t want to work for anything. You want instant gradification and expect others to give it to you. Sorry. God helps those that helps themselves! Go pray! And buy a dictionary. šŸ‘ **

Why not attempt to help rather than make snide comments.

**IrishJoe, In all real christian love and fellowship and spirit of truth, I must say you need more help than a group of christians on any thread could ever provide. English grammar 101 at a community college could help and prayer will really help!

ā€œLove without truth would be blind; truth without love would be like ā€˜a clanging cymbal.ā€™ā€ – Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger Pope Benedict XVI

Hi Cats, šŸ‘‹

I didn’t want to bring it up, but did you notice how ā€œProfessorā€ IrishJoe spelt religion in the OP Title? I knew this was going to be a difficult one. We have to teacg english spelling grammar and religion! 😃 **
looks like you flunked out yourself on the spelling. Do you also teach humility?

I don’t like pampering people but I think you’re overstating things IMHO. I like Thomas Kempis’ line on knowledge vs. faith: ā€œI’d rather have compunction than know the meaning of the word.ā€
Gradification is spelled with a ā€œtā€, by the way.

Hi Ravyn, šŸ‘‹

** You are too precious for words! 😃 I flunked on typing buddy and there is no spell check here. Plus, with my handicap, I can only type with 7 fingers. OK? I do the best that I am able. I am what is know as a powerful Catholic. This is not a place to pretend to be self-righteous and I am not one you want to battle against! I could and have taught many things for many years. But, I don’t do special education, sorry! Now go away and bother fhansen. Unlike me, I don’t think he likes your attitude very much! :rotfl: **

**Hi fhansen, šŸ‘‹

And I think you are understating things. that is two different opinions! Have you actually bothered to read all of IrishJoe’s posts? Start at his OP. There is so much more to the story than pampered. I get tired of his solipsistic viewpoints. It reads like a MH case history file. He varies from Anti-catholic to Agnostic to Atheism whatever works for soliciting pity. **

I like Thomas Kempis’ line on knowledge vs. faith: ā€œI’d rather have compunction than know the meaning of the word.ā€

One of his statements in Imitation of Christ is one of my favorite quotes: "Be not angry that you cannot make others as you wish them to be, since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be."

Gradification is spelled with a ā€œtā€, by the way.

** I know that! I have over 18 years of education, if you count the 5 years in the 4th and 6 years in the 7th grades! šŸ‘ Now go away and bother Ravyn_Guiliani. Unlike me, I don’t think he likes you very much! :rotfl:

Overstating is one word, by the way**

if he’s perfected then why the immaculate conception?

I dont believe in the force or whatever and fail to see how you have concluded this. In addition I found the comments about university and my spelling mistake not only irritating but highly irrelevant.

I dont think that just because one thing is imagined then another thing must be.
LOL! Someone is quite angry. Are you just here to beat up on Catholics, or do you really want to resolve your problem? No one believes me when I say this: I feel empathy for you. Bite my head off, but I’m still saying a prayer for you anyway. Really, such anger leads to the Dark Side. My point of quoting Star Wars is that it is based on religion and the struggles that human beings have with it. In your original post:
ā€œAs for alternatives I find islam and judaism based on books which to me means I could base a religion on lord of the rings or dune and it would be equally as valid. All sorts of Paganism sounds like someone with an over active imagination has read dungeons and dragons and mixes up fantasy and reality. Buddhism isn’t technically a religon as it has no deity. Most other religons then seem more cultural. Non-theistic satanism I disagree with in terms of logic and morals so that’s out.ā€
I was confused about what you meant there, since Judaism is the root of Christianity–the first 5 books are the Jewish Torah. Jesus was a Jew. Guess I missed the word ā€œalternativesā€ because I read too fast. I don’t think you actually believe in some Star Wars religion, just the part about ā€œjust because one thing is imagined the other must beā€. It seemed you had that feeling about Christianity too. Many people do. Why would you mention these types of things if they are not relevant? Again, I suspect you just want to beat up on someone and are looking for any angle you can grab. OK. Beat away. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but keyboards and monitors can never hurt me…:manvspc: :takeoff:

I think you should re-read my post -either another of your errors or I was misquoted and I have little tolerance for ā€œmis-quotersā€- something to do with the 8th commandment. But I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt-at least we agree Kempis is worth quoting. Bye, Realcatholicgk šŸ‘‹

While I don’t like the bragging part I think it’s the word cradle. If someone says I was baptised as a Catholic that’s fine no nausea, but cradle Catholic…total nausea.

I’m a convert from a secular Jewish family and the term just bugs me. It would be like me telling everyone that I’m chosen. Maybe I am just uber sensitive.

If it wasn’t for Jesus I would totally be Jewish still, but I love Him and am willing to put up with gross sayings to be close to Him. I just wish His followers were nicer and more welcoming to newcomers.

**Hi polkadots, šŸ‘‹
I understand that completely, I have often said If I wasn’t Catholic I would have to be Jewish! No other religions can go back to ā€œLet there be lightā€ but our two faiths. Sometimes I feel like the Protestants must, being around and reading about the early fathers of someone else’s Faith. I hope that over the years they developed their own scriptures and belief system and stop corrupting the Catholic ones. I mean it has been 500 years.😃 Then it hit me what could they say? Everything they have they ā€œBorrowedā€ from the Hebrew or Catholic faiths. They have no personal religion truths to hold onto and promulgate. They have to distory our belief system to justify not coming back to the real faith.

History shows that in 1536 Martin Luther disobeyed the real church while translating the real Bible from Greek into German, With out authorization he removed 4 N.T. books (Hebrews, James, Jude, and Revelation) and placed them in an appendix saying they were less than canonical. Other things He didn’t agree with he also changed or eliminated. About 10 years later at the Council of Trent, the Catholic Church reaffirmed once and for all the full list of 27 books. The council also confirmed the inclusion of the Deuterocanonical books which had been a part of the Bible canon since the early Church and was confirmed at the councils of 393 AD, 373, 787 and 1442 AD.

At Trent Rome actually dogmatized the canon, making it more than a matter of canon law, which had been the case up to that point, closing it for good. In 1551 the verse notations were added by Robertus Stephanus, after the advent of printing. Boring! they could attempt to show how they developed 61,000 distorted groups from the first one, but that is another story.

I love Jesus with all my heart I could never do something to lose the ability to consume his Body and drink his Blood as often as possible. Communion is the nurishment our souls need to defend against attacks by the devil and the secular world that he commands and controls.

There are some very friendly threads that you might consider until you have been around longer. I am a ā€œgreeterā€ I would never recommend this type of thread until you have been on for a while.
Many of us are actually engaged in combat with some of Satan’s false religions. The people are often good Jesus loving God fearing people, but their belief system is so distorted by the false
churches they are in that they attempt to corrupt weak Catholics they find here. Their pride, makes them think that they arereally and truly Christians. Their oldest church is 500 years old! They still declare they are christians Even though many of them Insult Jesus’ Mother, all of them Disregard His teachings and Commandments. They all distort our Holy scriptures andthen have the audacity to complain when we disagree with them!
If they do become saved it is only through the power of the HS and the graces of the CC. It is difficult for them because they have to overcome the numerous lies to have a chance for salvation. Theyreally need our Love and prayers.

God Bless **

**Hi fhansen,šŸ‘‹

Glad to see you have a sense of humor. I do see it was an error. probably my fault also! 😊 I sometimes copy and paste to a word processor and back. My dial up often disconnects if it does I loose a lot of posts. I have to reboot and restart my ISP and all the work disappears. I did download that and when uploaded the WP split the word. That is my story and I am sticking to it! 😃 All the errors on these threads and we 😃 worry abour misspelt words?

God Bless**

I was hoping this thread might actually go somewhere useful. I have been in the place the OP is at now and I may be there again in my life. All I can say is that it is a good thing I did not have anything similar to this thread back in 2002 when I converted to the Church or else the sheer arrogance and nastiness may have hindered me from doing so.

here’s a hint: bitterness and arrogance only attract bitterness and arrogance. Truth does not need a bad attitude to prove it is Truth.

Jesus said to love God, love yourself, love your neighbor, love each other, and love your enemies–who is that leaving out? And how is it love to be so hateful? Shame on you. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit and give the Catholic Church a black eye!

I am judgmental (one ā€œeā€) when truths are called untrue. The only thing I’m instructed to not be judgmental about is the state of anyone’s soul. Judging the ā€œtruth valueā€ of people’s statements is not prohibited.

I am condescending when I have to ā€œreach downā€ to be on the same level of knowledge as the person with whom I’m conversing. If one doesn’t know some fact, that fact has to be ā€œfitā€ into one’s present ā€œknowledge structureā€ with a bit of explanation by the ā€œcondescenderā€.

I don’t claim to be helpful, only informative, so the fact that I’m, in your case, not very helpful, is not something I’m terribly worried about.

I’d LIKE to be helpful, that requires some charitable acceptance of what conversation is about on your part.

If you’d care to inform me as to how to be more ā€œhelpfulā€ to you, I’d love to have that info from you! šŸ™‚

Really, I’ve never had that issue while explaining scientific things to people.

If you say that the grass is pink and I say that its orange, your repetion of the information will not help.

perhaps address the difficulties I am having with said RCC doctrines and beliefs rather than pointing out every little spelling mistake and making a link between my typos and lack of faith. [it doesn’t rain much in africa and most people are black, therefore rain causes skin to become white?]

What, then, are your ā€œdifficultiesā€? And how would you like those difficulties ā€œaddressedā€?

Your ā€œdifficultiesā€ are due to your not wanting to believe Catholic doctrine (dogma).

Now, the question is: Why, FOR WHAT REASONS, do you not WANT to believe Catholic doctrine?

(( And, on the spelling thing, I’d suggest using Firefox as your browser with the ā€œauto spellcheckā€ function turned on. It’s a good way to have an automatic spelling ā€œtutorā€ to help improve one’s native ability to use the language. ))

:shamrock2:

Its not that I dont want to, it is that I cannot.
Then we don’t have much to discuss, do we?

If you truly believe that you cannot, while also believing that your wanting to is irrelevant, then what you suffer from is ā€œhopelessnessā€, meaning that you have no hope that even if you want a thing it will can not come to you.

That is the very definition of the ā€œblasphemy against the Holy Spiritā€, which is essentially ā€œsuicideā€.

Please don’t give in to hopelessness.

Dear Maedar, - as I recommended my sons when they where small children in the 70ties: ā€œread the bible with your heartā€. Then ā€œfunnyā€ misunderstandings like:
ā€œI do not think that people are ā€˜stained’ for some eejit eating an apple some Xthousand years agoā€
would never happen šŸ˜‰

Oh no – first people – symbolized by Adam and Eva, have not at all been idiots ā€œeejitā€ but people like you and I, who simply couldn’t resist the ever so intelligent threaded or arranged sore temptation of Satan the mightiest of all Daemons, even the Arch Angel Michael awes.
That’s not my opinion, I was quoting a previous post.

**ok then dear, obviously I got mixed up in those nicks - sorry - don’t feel hit - it’s only nicks anyhow;)

It’s such a blooming shame, that again I did not get any note from this forum about any new answer.
I occasionally looked by, and I was surprised, that there where quite a few posts.
Why is it, that I so often don’t get a note?
