here’s a hint: bitterness and arrogance only attract bitterness and arrogance. Truth does not need a bad attitude to prove it is Truth.
!
You’re right. I just hope that wasn’t a jab at me. (screen name)
Yeah a couple on here seem to be trying to attract bees with vinegar, but you gotta admit, Irishjoe came in with fists swinging. He looked like he wanted a fight, IMO. To that, I just laugh, because I will not duke it out with people to get them to submit and convert/revert. Pointless. He seems to be here just to take out his frustrations rather than be helped, since a fair bit of bitterness seems to come out of his responses towards just about anyone who posts. That said, I could be misinterpreting his motivation, just as my posts and intentions are often misunderstood by others. If that’s the case, and I seem at all arrogant and bitter, then my apologies. Again, Irishjoe, I wasnt laughing at you, saying you are a member of any UFO or Star Wars cults, just laughing at people who do such things. Those people get things in quite a muddle for people who want to believe in God or the CC, but just can’t accept it isn’t a SciFi invention either. You are unsatisfied with anything anyone here offers, except when one Catholic takes a stab at another Catholic. That just strengthens my suspicion about your motives.
Really, God bless. :signofcross: May you find peace–SOMEWHERE.

it actually saddens me and I cannot see the point in a catholic church if it is at war with itself over things.

haven’t read all posts… but this is what comes to mind…

The Catholic C is NOt at war with itself unless you are talking about the people rebelling aginst some of the teachings (b -control…)…

The Church is united in its teachings (doctrine/dogma)…

the ex-cathedra teachings are not in conflict with one another…

To say otherwise is to not understand Cathicism completely…

and it is also to say that God cannot/does not protect his Church from falling into error… What kind of Church would it be if God did not divinely protect it? (St. Mt 16;18)… God would not expect us to stay faithful to a Church that could not be trusted

Don’t be sad, the CC isn’t at war with itself. Most members are pretty uniform and consistent. People on CAF hash out what we really can’t in the middle of Mass. There’s a freedom of opinion in this forum.

1Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. Matt 23:1-3

The principle here is that people often continue to behave badly but that doesn’t mean the message they’ve been given to teach is wrong.-they’re just not necessarily heeding it themselves. The Churchs’ message-the gospel- is one and not at war with itself regardless of the disposition of some of her people.

**ok then dear, obviously I got mixed up in those nicks - sorry - don’t feel hit - it’s only nicks anyhow;)

It’s such a blooming shame, that again I did not get any note from this forum about any new answer.
I occasionally looked by, and I was surprised, that there where quite a few posts.
Why is it, that I so often don’t get a note?
    :banghead: **
Not to seem antagonistic, but I find being called dear a bit patronizing. Christian, or Maedar would be fine.
Also, I’ve found that often I don’t get post notifications. I get maybe one out of every five or so.

**Dear Christian 🙂
sorry - don’t take it "antagonistic " - a word I had to look up at
dict.cc/?s=antagonistic .
It wasn’t meant such :o and I didn’t know.
Oh - in that case I was “antagonistic” to a lot of people here 😊
Just take it as the confusion of old age
dict.cc/?s=patronizing
well, I’m NEVER such - rather in the contrary 😃 But thank’s for telling me.

seek da truth - hey, that’s my way of talking for that blasted th-sound I never get.

Though “There’s a freedom of opinion in this forum” is good; nonbelievers never really understand, there is absolute freedom in Christianity too – and actually there only – nowhere else!

Saint Paul brought this on the point on many words of the gospel. E.g. 2Cor 3,17 “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” Or more detailed in Gal 4,8 to 6,10

We, as we know that though and experimented this real freedom in Christ - opposed to the bondage of disbelief - also are warned, not to let our freedom be felt to be opposed by nonbelievers, as they are very susceptible towards believe. St. Paul warned therefore in 1Cor 8,9:
“Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak.”

A Christian knows however, that freedom doesn’t mean one might do as he pleases.
“Everything is permissible for me - but not everything is beneficial. Everything is permissible for me - but I will not be mastered by anything”

So: When we read all this and much more in the bible, and nobody will ever find the slightest word of umbrage. Nothing but love throughout the new testament… Mustn’t this be prove enough to any doubter, that this really must be the very truth?!

It, Christian believe, IS the one and only truth in this world!

nah I did have someone especially in mind when I said it–but it was not you. I was just trying to get the overall tone of the thread back to Christian kindness.

I understand exactly where Joe is coming from. When you are angry with God you are angry with His people. It is frustration and pain that speaks. Sometimes I get so messed up trying to wrap my head around certain things that I have to just turn it off—but it takes a leap of faith and much trust to go with your heart only.

I have issues with Original Sin and basically why God made things so difficult–the free-will–stuff. And there is no talking me out of it–because it is not a matter of logic or intellect, it is a matter of faith and sometimes I do not have any.

Faith is a gift of Holy Spirit. You have to ask for it and then allow yourself to be receptive. Not easy to do. I take comfort in the idea that God will not ask more of me than I am capable of. Somedays I have to just say–I can’t do it–You (God) do it. And it goes against my very nature. It is a constant struggle. I get angry. With God, with the Church and with myself. Didn’t St. Paul say he had to beat his body to cooperate? He said the good that I wish to do I do not do. Faith does not come easy to everyone. And much of the Truth (capital T) can only be seen with eyes of faith.

You can’t convince Joe by using the same arguments he has used himself–it isn’t a head thing. It is a heart thing. Tell him why you believe, how you have come to know Jesus, share your heart with him. That is how you build faith. (I need to hear it too.)

I have noticed that if you get a notification for one post and then do not go and read it that you will not get another notification even if there are more responses until you read the first one. Could it be that they are getting delivered to your Bulk Mail folder or Spam bin? Also once when I was reading elsewhere on the forum there were replies coming in to a thread I subscribed to but they did not notify me because I was already on the forum.

🤷

Thanks. Yes, you are right, and that’s what they tell you on these notes; but I always clicked to see the posts at once. So, this can’t be the reason.

Might be it’s as Maedar says: “Also, I’ve found that often I don’t get post notifications. I get maybe one out of every five or so.”

And notifications arrive here in my folder “friends” only… Well, if “they did not notify me because I was already on the forum” – than that might be the case, for ít takes me longer than you to read or answer a post, as it’s a foreign language to me 😉 and I have to study the posts instead of “over-read” with my dict ready to find my way through that jungle of words often at breakfeast - :coffeeread: (now with a botte of beer aside the computer)

When you are angry with God you are angry with His people. It is frustration and pain that speaks.
True and understandable. But who of those of us who live in God’s word, would ever dare to be “angry with God” ?

OK. Job (Hiob) was, but he corrected himself. Neither my friends nor I never never never would dare to be “angry with God”.

And let’s ask: Is this “angry with God” might be nothing else but being angry with oneself - becaus one feels helpless to be with God? Helpless and overchallenged in an unable way to really get all this? “All this” is the word of Christ - the one and only truth on earth at all.

Yes - I commit - it is a challenge to believe. But let’s be honest. We all, every single one - every human, at several points of his live thought; it’s really bloody hard to believe, for as much as I try: I don’t feel any response! Does God at all care about me. IS THERE A GOD?

Now, let’s be aware, that these thoughts are whispers of Satan himself into our ears and minds. We all are tempted from time to time like this. Every single human, beginning at Adam an Eva, across great personalities like Job up to even all disciples Thomas and even Peter and - ever Jesus Christ where tempted in similar ways by Satan.

Let’s always remember St.Peter, when he walked across the water towards Jesus. Suddenly Peter was aware of this that couldn’t be. He, Peter walking across the waters?! NO!
This was the temptation and at that “NO” Peter sank.
He couldn’t swim. So he yelled "LORD HELP ME!”

And now the very extraordinary thing happened AND IT WILL HAPPEN TO US TOO EXACTLY THIS WAY!
The Lord Jesus Christ who stood on the water, bend down to St.Peter, reached His hand to him and pulled Peter up onto Him.

So - don’t lead us into temptation (God agreed to temptation of Job - and of that of St.Peter and ours - but it’s not God who tempts us, but Satan) but deliver us from this evil.
Lets every day pray: Lord help me!

And Jesus will reach us His hand and pull us upon to Him
IF WE HAVE RETURNED TO BELIEVE

OK, I understand. I didn’t mean to say it’s OK to stoop to the level of fighting. I really don’t agree with that type of behavior.
You know, I’m not going to try and talk you out of the original sin thing, but I struggled immensely with that myself: How could a little baby sin? All I can tell you is what I, personally, have come to understand, and hope it helps. The Church has been facing this recently too, instead of continuing to allow half-baked explanations of things like “limbo for un-baptized babies” and letting it become part of it’s teaching, though not official dogma. You see, when I started coming back to the church, I was near rock-bottom: Alone, scared, looking for meaning in life. I sort of believed in God, and just prayed and prayed for him to show me what to do. My faith wasn’t strong, but thanks to being raised in the Church, I knew something about it. I have 2 beautiful children, and I wanted them to grow up in a church for that reason. I figured they should be baptized, but I wasn’t sure why or where or what church. I felt something pulling me, and just saw too many coincidences and things happening to ignore what I see as God reaching out and pulling me back to the Catholic Church. I could tell you details, but no one would understand, and it would be pages and pages of my life story to show the significance.
I kept asking myself, “Why baptize my kids?” All I knew from Sunday school in the Catholic Church as a child was because of original sin. As you know, ****** explanation! The Baptists feel it is only important when a person has come to the age of reasoning at like age 8, or later. They believe it is a time of absolution and acceptance of Jesus Christ for the person or child being baptized. This seemed more reasonable than saying stuff like babies will not go to Heaven for what a parent didn’t do before they died! I never felt at home with the Baptists, Methodists, etc, so that one reason alone wasn’t enough to convert me to their ranks. What I just found out is that this “limbo” thing has never been official dogma, and the Church now says we “Entrust them to God” and acknowledges there is absolutely no Scriptural basis for assuming anything bad will happen to an un-baptised infant which is innocent. The priest I talked to told me this: “There is no magic in the act of baptism”!!!
WHAT? OK, so, uh, why in the world do we do it at all?
He said because it’s a vow made by the parents and godparents to raise the child in a Christian home, where he will learn to know the love of Jesus Christ. The “original sin” refers to the potential to sin because we, as a human race, have passed down the same potential and knowledge of how to sin since Adam and Eve generation to generation. It is not the same as sin we commit with knowledge of what we are doing, simply that we must take care to raise our children in such a way as to help them avoid the same old sins everyone else committed time and time again. If we start from the time they are too small to sin, then the goal is to prevent them from ever becoming a gravely sinful person. Of course, we can all fail. No one is perfect. Many of us do, and even the ones who are brought up in the best, ideal conditions can fall into sinfulness. The world has a strong pull too, as does Satan. When baptizing our children we are expected to arm our children the best we can to defend themselves against falling. It’s a promise, like a promise in matrimony. I think this is what it’s all really about. There are a lot of superstitious explanations out there, especially when you talk to old-school Catholics, and people who just see things as, “This is what I gotta do or my child will not go to Heaven.” Simply put, yes, that’s likely going to happen. Is it that simple or magic? No.
I went to baptism class, and the instructor pretty much said the same thing, even though she kind of went old-school at the end, as if we need that extra superstitious push to motivate us. 🤷 Maybe this actually works against us? I think so. We are adults now, and childish explanations no longer work! It doesn’t really get the actual INTENDED message home with most people either, IMO.
It’s about the parents giving that child a chance, not magic :signofcross: over someone and they’re instantly saved.
If I’m wrong, well then, let’s have it! Give me my beating, CAF!

I saw this “Bible Illuminated” thing: bibleilluminated.com/about/
Very weird. Kinda cool. I think Irishjoe would like it. (If only for the pictures, since I don’t even know exactly what it’s all about.) He could have been a contributing photographer for it. Might even have improved it.
Again, I’m not promoting it, just thought it looked interesting.

On the Immaculate Conception. Remember how John the Baptist was sanctified in the womb at the sound of Mary’s voice. If God can sanctify John the Baptist in the womb, why can’t he make Mary an Immaculate Conception. Remember that both Eve and Adam were also in a state of grace so being in a state of grace does not mean that she couldn’t choose into sin anyways. And then look at the prophets in the Bible like Enoch  who never died. The Immaculate Conception, to the best of my imperfect knowledge, was a long held belief by the Church that was only made into a doctrine when it was contradicted and the apparition at Lourdes confirmed it, just like the infalliability of Scripture was only declared during the Protestant Reformation, about 1500 or so years after the death of Christ. We are so far removed from the early Christians that all we see is the theory, just like we can only read about the Biblical miracles.

On original sin, imagine sin passing down to us just like a genetic disease.

On evidence for Christianity, the Case for Christ by Lee Strobel might help. He was a former atheist, Chicago Tribune legal editor, Yale Law graduate who set out to debunk Christianity by factually researching the historical evidence and was instead converted to a Protestant pastor. For me, that book was a watershed moment in seeing Christianity as historical in addition to religious.

In Kibeho, Rwanda prior to the genocide, the Mother of the Word appeared. She said a “river of blood” would happen if people did not convert, repent, pray the Rosary, the Chaplet of Seven Sorrows, and stop committing various moral sins, such as the girls sleeping with certain men. Did a river of blood happen? Then we look at Fatima, Portugal. See some of the messages from Mary to the three little children: *The war [World War I was still raging] is going to end. But if people do not stop offending God, another and worse one will begin in the reign of Pius XI… When you shall see a night illuminated by an unknown light [on January 25-26, 1938 from 9PM to 2AM there appeared over the Northern Hemisphere a very unusual light that scared many people. The New York Times devoted almost an entire page to the event. Scientists attributed it to an exceptional aurora borealis] “know that this is the great sign that God gives you that He is going to punish the world for its many crimes by means of war, hunger and persecution of the Church and the Holy Father” [Within two months of the sign, in March of 1938, Hitler invaded his first country, Austria.] * loveandmercy.org/loveandmercy/fatima.htm

**NY Air-Bus incident is headline on all papers in Germany.

Nobody seriously injured, is definitely a wonder done by God. Obvious!

The world refuses to believe in wonders, finds explanations and excuses not to. If they don’t find lucid reason for wonders, they are scared of being led back to obvious wonders of which we have many; - scared to realize God.

Worldwide we read headlines like: Child fell off 3rd 4th… floor – no injuries. Common mind hurries to find explanations far off any wonder.

Today one can easily match numerous news and papers about this NY air accident. The result:

“The world has no religion left”

I looked into several papers. Outmost headline is:
“ALMOST AS IF it had been a wonder”.

But after all, one of the biggest serious Newspaper over here, the “FRANKFURTER ALLGEMEINE” headlined:
“We thank God and the Pilot”
mentioning God first here:
faz.net/s/homepage.html
Notlandung im Hudson: alle Passagiere gerettet
„Wir danken Gott und dem Piloten“

When will the world finally realize, that GOD IS - and that all this talk about refusing religion is unworthy of being created as human being by God. The one and only true God to whom every single one will return one day.**
