Dear Irish Joe. I know what you feel. I am in my 30s and that sucks in it’s own right, Anyway. I go to Mass and there is this young girl “high School” age and every one fawns over her. It angers me. She performs like church is the theatre. Ok I am mad at God I am furious at him. I am sick and tired of the way my life has been. I got to Mass and it is dry I get angry at allot of things. That girl the people on the altar, so on so forth. My Father is 66 years old broke and I have to do **** I hate doing going to places I hate to go for 10 years juat to make ends barely meet none of my dreams have come true. I even discerned the priesthood that was the most emotional roller coaster ride from HELL!!! I ever had yet God allowed child molesters in and my KNOWING and trusting and believing all the churches teachings and trying to live them and still do but I felt the church gave me the biggest screw you ever!!! I am ANGRY I am tried. I go to bed and hope I don’t wake up. I am in my 30s and I hate adulthood more every stinkin damn day. I am tired of seeing other people, younger people getting their dreams and I get a screw you from God I am freaken furious. What really angers me is that my poor Father is suffering financial difficulties at 66 and it is unfair. I cry myself to sleep, yet God treats athiests better than his believers. I know your pain I feel your pain and going to mass pray offer it up whatever catch phrase I hear is not good enough. I WANT GOD TO FREAKEN DO SOMETHING NOW!!! enough is enough,. Yes I know how you feel. everyday is just another disappointment. I may seem negative been told i am lately, But what does one expect when everyday is the same old **** as the last with no hope of ever climbing out of the cesspool. Yes my dear friend I feel you and I have some of the same feelings as you. The thing is I STILL love God and I still love his saving Son I believe in him I KNOW he is there and I know that Jesus is the only way the only light in this cesspool we call the world. I believe that He built the church upon Peter the first pope and I will always be Catholic and I still love Jesus more than I can say. I am angry and very disappointed in allot of things but I am not going to turn away from God. I just can’t do that. Like a child mad a his parents, but he still loves them. that is how I feel with God. I pray that you stay with the church and God will be with you and help you. I have no answers for you as to what to do, just that you are not the only one that feels the way you do. It makes me feel better when someone knows what I am dealign with. Sometimes just talking about it not being afraid to say it like it is gets you feeling better vindicated or what have you. Most people want to put on a front that oh it’s ok it is no big deal. But sometimes it is NOT ok it is a big deal. Anyways I hope it gets better for you and hope you stay in the Catholic church. God Bless Scoob.
**Hi Scoob, 👋

You are in my prayers! So many words that would only be words. Just remember others have it worse than you do! I am 64, I was wounded at 21, disabled and in pain for all these years. Many of my friends died, I am “the lucky one” 😦 Sigh, anyway, Jesus loves all of us! He actually died for each one of us individually. If Jesus can die for you, You must be a very special person! Know that, believe that, embrace that!

God Bless**

No offense, OP, but I don’t see how these criticisms of other people have anything to do with your relationship with God. Going to Mass isn’t a matter of how you perceive others in attendance with you. It’s something that seals the bond between you and God, through the Church.

I can’t criticize you, however. I’m an irregular church-goer, which is something I don’t like about myself. I love my Catholic religion, but I’m such an impatient person when it comes to ritual and bad public speaking, I frequently miss Mass. After a lifetime of being a convinced Catholic, theologically speaking, I’m still looking for the ‘right’ Mass – efficient, inspiring, tastefully done. I realize this isn’t the right attitude.

**HI King Arthur, 👋

The ‘right’ Mass is the one where Jesus is present in the Eucharist! He is the only important thing there. He is the Creator, the Lord. What else could really be important? 🤷

Prayer is the answer! You are so correct that you haven’t the right attitude. 😦 What a shame, You have the real faith in the real church and you ignore your Lord and Savior for your personal selfish reasons.

Please pray! At least you do realize that it is you, not God’s fault! I will pray for you also!

God Bless**

No offense, OP,
Some critics of Christianity found out, that real Christians never offend anyone. Those who do without apology, hadly are Christians.
I don’t see how these criticisms of other people have anything to do with your relationship with God
Doubters hardly ever correlate criticisms upon God Himself, but on ways and means believers annunciate their conviction – mistake it as provocation.
True though – believe is a challenge to all human beings. But isn’t life itself a challenge…
Going to Mass isn’t a matter of how you perceive others in attendance with you.
But it’ alone a matter between you and God – no-one else, because…it
seals the bond between you and God, through the Church.
I’m an irregular church-goer, which is something I don’t like about myself.
Quantity and regularity of churchgoing doesn’t make a Christian. I know a lot of people who never miss a mass, but are indeed most disagreeable contemporaries. I even know several priests whom I’d never mix up with (neither would they with me though 😉 Beware of those who carry Christianity as a billboard before them. It’s alone a matter between God and the single person. Each of them though, carries Jesus order, to pass on Gods word – out of love. It would be easier to shut up and let nonbelievers perish. Easier, but selfish and unchristian.
I’m still looking for the ‘right’ Mass – efficient, inspiring, tastefully done
Oh – sound’s like me 😉 might be we are related 😉 But you and I know, that even when it’s a bad priest and a sloppy mass – it’s still a fully guilty mass, when the connection between God and us is in order.
I realize this isn’t the right attitude.
Show me one person in this world, who possesses the one and only right attitude. Might be the Pope and Saints. But we are neither of the two.
This one and only right attitude will be shown to us, when we stand before God. Then the a pair of balances will tend to the one or the other side. Let’s hope the right weight will be on the good side primarily. Fully – no, fully it’ll never be. But let’s do our best 😉

And mind you IrishJoe. You’re very young now, and you think you can play about with all this, as you think you have a lot of time to make up your mind. That’s not so. First of January here died a 19-year old. Others here know details. He was very religious.
You don’t know, if you’ll die today. You too – if you believe it or not, will go on living – Gods, or another way though.
Don’t play around with the most important of your life.
Great to see that catholc scare-mongering didn’t die out
All you have to do is: next time you get blind-drunk, stand in the middle of a field and shout, ‘God where the…are You. I need a word quick!’
while I’m sure alcohol improves the god experience by removing inhibitions I have never been drunk and I dont intend to be. Plus alcohol + insulin = baaad
I’m sorry about you illness but don’t worry about Eternity. Peter will kick your *** but then let you through the Gate. If not, go round the back and ask for Paddy - never known to fail.
God bless, take care & see you on the other side!
LoL! Spoken like a true Irishman!

First you don’t know as much as you think you do,
Stop thinking about what others are doing-all you are accomplishing is that you are judging others and not working on your relationship with God
Do I not and I’m not judging people. Its the catholics, like yourself, who are judging I’ve found.
Actually people generally know more than they think, and I have not claimed to know everything about the Catholic faith.
That kind of attitude discourages me.
No offense, OP, but I don’t see how these criticisms of other people have anything to do with your relationship with God
Church is supposed to be community based. A hollow ritual cannot provide the support a church and parish is suppoed to provide.

As I have told you in my private message, I went through a life threatening illness, I was saved by God, why I dont know but then had all my faith of 15 years crushed for a few days where I truly believed there was no life after death. On easter sunday at mass i started to slowly regain my faith. I still feel attacked and scared and I defy anyone to say they never experience doubt.

My experience and I am no expert on religion, is that faith is God’s greatest gift but that either we are not at a place we can experience it or it just cant be found, I dont know except I have lost it at times. Fortunately, it returns.

God, cannot be proved but the miracle of my cure from cancer cant either. I look at people like C.S. Lewis and C.K. Chesterton and the books they wrote which indicate the intellectual pursuit of God and their finding God. The church is full of the intellectual if that is what is needed by you, sometimes I need it even if it is only the knowledge that men more intelectual than myself not only believed the God story but the Jesus one.Read about Lewis and J.R.R.Tolkien walking around Oxford one night and debating God, Juses and mythology and see what that does for you.

My experience was God found me in the Catholic church in Texas when one of the priests from my favorite counry Ireeland and I became friends and I guess I became open to faith. I have no explanation for not having faith and then one day having it.

I certainly envy, although that is wrong, those who never doubt their faith. I pray for more faith each day. I also pray for you, people prayed for me and God answered their prayers.

Hi Irishjoe, 👋**

Great to see that catholc scare-mongering didn’t die out

**Eternal damnation, can last a long time! 😃 **

while I’m sure alcohol improves the god experience by removing inhibitions I have never been drunk and I dont intend to be.

**And you call yourself Irish? **

Plus alcohol + insulin = baaad

LoL! Spoken like a true Irishman!

**“Slainte!”
When we drink, we get drunk.
When we get drunk, we fall asleep.
When we fall asleep, we commit no sin.
When we commit no sin, we go to heaven.
So, let’s all get drunk, and go to heaven!

I am German-American, even here we know of you Irish!😃 **

Do I not and I’m not judging people. Its the catholics, like yourself, who are judging I’ve found.

**
I think that you are being warned of the judgment that God will make. I have never seen a Catholic judge people, just warn them of what their behavior indicates. There is a difference. For it is written, “As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” (Romans 14:9-12) **

Actually people generally know more than they think, and I have not claimed to know everything about the Catholic faith.
That kind of attitude discourages me.

**
I am one of the lucky ones. I realize I am not as smart as these other people. I don’t have the book learning many have, but I do know Jesus and he has set me free! **

Church is supposed to be community based. A hollow ritual cannot provide the support a church and parish is suppoed to provide.

**Who ever said church is supposed to be community based? It is supposed to be JESUS based! You can get community at any social event. Worship of God is not and never should be an social event. It is worship. You are going to meet your lord and savior! There is no “hollow” ritual when your lord and savior commands you to come and eat His body and you are transported back to the last supprt with Him and His disciples. There is no “hollow” ritual when you also join his disciples at the cross as He dies for your sins. Your sins alone! There is no “hollow” ritual when you gnaw on His flesh, as He commanded, to obtain eternal life. There is no “hollow” ritual when you worship God correctly!

The hollow ritual is getting up every day believing that you are better than God, that Jesus’ death wasn’t really important, that His leaving His church here on earth doesn’t concern you nor your eternal salvation. That you don’t need God! That is a hollow ritual.

You want support? Go to a mental health group! You want Faith? Go worship Jesus at Mass! The Catholic community worships Jesus not each other! We pray for each other!

God Bless **

Fristly Einstein used the word God to describe that which we do not know about the universe. He states that he does not belive in god as the jews do. This is a popular misconception. Hawking is also aethiest. Not ruling something out is different to accepting it. I dont rule out the possilbity that there are pixies living in my garden, but I find it highly unlikely that there are.

My heart is not hardened, I am quite openminded, however I do not find much logic or rationale behind the church teachings that I have questioned. And have witnessed some acts of charity and some acts of spite here on this thread. Some people have emailed and messaged me although its gotten me nowhere. Despite this, I cannot be a catholic as I disagree with fundamental teachings so it is time to see if there are other ways to know god because catholicism at the moment is retarding my spiritual growth. If in future someone explains it to me I will resume it.

Hi Irish, 👋

Your personal lack of faith is retarting your spiritual growth. Never blame God or His church for your own shortcomings!

**I agree fully to both last posts of RC. Could have been from me 😉 or any real Christian.

But tell me Realcatholicgk, since you hardly ever answer mails or PM’s, let me ask here for a change:

I know you went through hell in Vietnam. Being just 6 years older than you, I over here in far off Germany knew precisely what happened in Vietnam and how you suffered. The 68-movment arouse of that over here, as it was as all wars, a senseless war.

I at the time red an interview in which a Vietnam-soldier stated: “If you lived that hell of Vietnam, you’d know there’s no God”.

I was utterly shocked; for as a Child I lived the hell of World-War II with all that bombing round us. My parents NEVER lost faith and prayed at every impact whilst our house quivered. I, as the youngest in that house, prayed before the statue of Holy Mary in that air-shelter, and all of those being there, joined the prayers, if atheists or doubters. (which they denied later)

However – a lot of houses around ours we where praying, had been blasted off and I saw a lot of people torn to pieces or dieing then, (all that made me stutter for 2 years ten - ended by prayers again). Many lost believe. We of course – as the great majority, of course not.

Back to my question:
You saw hell there, and been severely wounded and viewed all the disgust of the world.
Why did you never loose faith in God?
That would be interesting to some people who for very nonentity reasons proclaim: “I have no religion left”.

Such statements seem terribly childish and immature, as faith in God and believe in Jesus’ word is so very reasonable and profound and nothing but love. Where is love in atheism?!

There are so many posts here I can’t read them all. I’ll just reply to your q. It’s possible and done to prove Gods existence and the existence of the immortal soull and more, but eventually you need faith to accept many catholic teachings. Faith is a gift from God we can lose. I don’t know whether your judgment is affected by health probs or not but you are not very happy. All i will say is that you will find happiness with God. The closer you get to God ( the deeper the relationship ) the happier you will be. Perhaps you could pray for more faith? That’s something we all need. Pray, lord i belive, help my unbelief. There is a crisis of misinformation, lies , deception, ignorance, prejudice, hatred and apathy towards religion and especially the catholic faith in the world today. We see it on tv, in the movies, in the media, the shops, our friends are effected by it and it’s very hard for us not to be effected or overcome by this lack of faith in the world. Without faith nothing has any meaning or purpose so I suggest you pray with an open heart and mind for faith because it’ll give everything meaning and bring you happiness eventually. It is important. Don’t give up on God, He never gives up on you. Don’t blame God or the church for all the trouble in the world either. Their not the problem, their the answer to the problem.

Saints are just sinners who keep trying.
not really though.
Saints have sometimes (just sometimes) been sinners like you and I, but they found a way to finally resist.
We can do so too.

It’s not so, that sin comes “naturally” to you!

You have to open yourself to sin and agree to what Satan whispers into your ear.

For instance “There’s is no God”

That’s the sin that eats you as acid does - to hell’s enjoyment.

Don’t tell me that. i get discouraged. If sinners can become saints there’s hope for me. I agree with all you say. Temptation comes from the devil, flesh and world. I hope to conquer them one day. Before I die. Keep posting:thumbsup:

Why did you never loose faith in God?

God had always been a part of my life. I prayed, as a part of who I was. If a friend gets wounded or killed all you can do to really help is pray for them. The hardest time was I the hospital 14 months of seeing others much worse than I. We had to make some decisions that we should not of had to nor did we have the right to make. But when someone begs you to help them a human being does things that hurts his soul and needs to be confessed! God knows the love that was needed for us to help our brothers.

That would be interesting to some people who for very nonentity reasons proclaim: “I have no religion left”.

I have been i pai constantly for 42 years and have a deformed hand and physical problems unseen but felt. It is a part of who I am and who I have became. I would not change anything that has happened to me because I would not be the person I am now. I do know that I would not do some of the things I did at 21 through 23 now but we all grow in wisdom and knowledge, even Jesus!

Such statements seem terribly childish and immature, as faith in God and believe in Jesus’ word is so very reasonable and profound and nothing but love. Where is love in atheism?!

Bruno, the things I shared here in this post ~ “we” never talk about to others. Us “vets” just live with our demons. The physical and physiological pain is our burden, that can’t be shared. I go out with other Nam vets and church groups and feed and get the “bad” ones into shelters! We know the pain that we all carry. The regrets, the shame, the joy, the anger. I am about 10 minutes from one of the largest Army hospitals in USA treating wounded soldeirs. We go and help them know they aren’t alone! No one did that for us Nam vets, for some reason. I am the sum of all that has every happened to me! There is no one on earth exactly like me! Not one single person has had my experiences! My Lord and Savior will be a part of who I am forever! I’ve went through times in my life when I felt like I have no religion left. Things get so stressful and horrible in my life sometimes, I feel like I want to just give up practicng the faith.

So I give up. The something worse happens: I get this deep sense of EMPTINESS. I HATE feeling empty. I HATE IT I HATE IT! (did I forget to mention that I hate it?) 🙂

There’s a saying I have: If you are empty somewhere, fill it up or the devil will do it for you.

So I fill it with good things - something that turns me closer to God.

The emptiness goes away, even if the pain and suffering don’t. And that is a definite improvement to pain, suffering and emptiness.

Hi there too, I like the quote on abstract fetal tissue. I haven’t heard that one before, and I did listen to this priest a fair bit yrs ago. Very good. God bless you.👍 🙂

**Hi John, 👋

I am on my way to eat Jesus!

I love Fr Corapi. He is my kind of priest! Some more of His Holy Spirit Inspired Sayings:

“The devil donned a judicial robe.” (In relation to the US Supreme Court decision in Roe vs Wade which decriminalized abortion.)

“A preacher who is afraid to confront evil is useless.”

“A pro-abortion politician is automatically disqualified.”

“You need to know your faith. You cannot give what you do not have.” (On the need for Catholics to study and learn Sacred Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church)

“In the end, forever, you and I will be in Heaven or Hell. Period.”

“I’m not going to hell for anybody!”

“Let me tell you how NOT to have vocations: 1) disobey the Church. 2) Do not accept the teaching of the Magisterium of the Church. 3) Bad mouth the Pope and send them to lousy seminaries. You will have NO vocations! Kiss 'em goodbye! It is absolutely fatal to play fast and loose with faith and morals. Things are getting better but we’ve gone through a very dry period in the Church. I can give you example after example of religious congregations and dioceses that are doing just great with vocations. Why? Because they’re faithful. Period. Because they’re faithful. They don’t play games with the Doctrine of the Faith. They don’t try to promote in seminarians a kind of attitude of liberal dissent. That is the kiss of death and I can prove it time and time and time again that wherever that is done, there are no vocations. And there won’t be. There won’t be. Where things are done properly, there are vocations. It’s not hard. It’s not rocket science.”

“Sometimes people will say ‘Well I’ve outgrown my faith.’ I’ve met eight zillion people who have said ‘Yeah I used to be Catholic…’ Well what are you now? And they may be Buddhist, or who knows what? And they sometimes say ‘Well I outgrew my Catholic faith, I became more sophisticated, I became more educated.’ There’s something I have found. Now I have some education. I have earned five university degrees, most of them with highest honors. I’m not bragging, I’m just saying that to let you know that I respect education. I have a high regard for education. But in my many years around the education establishment, I was given a great revelation by God, and the revelation is: a lot of people done been educated into imbecility.”

“You know why the world is a stinking mess? I have failed to be as holy as I am called to be. Bottom line. I don’t have any control over anybody else. I’ve gotta deal with ME. One person at a time we must be perfected as our Heavenly Father is perfect.”

“The Holy Spirit is a divine artist; we’re like a lump of clay. We’ve heard that analogy that we’re clay. We carry this treasure within us in earthen vessels. We know an artist, a sculptor can work in clay. Clay is soft. Clay is malleable. Clay can be easily formed. The Holy Spirit is a divine artist. Are you clay? Or are you marble? Artists can work with marble too. Marble’s very cold and hard though. How does an artist work with marble? He chips away at it. You’ve been wondering why God’s been chipping away at you? It’s painful to lose pieces of yourself isn’t it? Gotta do it. There are things in us that have to go. You can’t be egocentric, you’ve got to be Christocentric. You can’t be self-centered and hope to be sanctified. You’ve got to be centered on Christ. It’s a work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit forms Jesus within us. No cross? No crown. No pain? No gain. No way around it–if there was a shortcut, I’d know it and I’d tell ya.”

“More than once I’ve had discussions with persons who say, things, based on a misunderstanding. …] ‘Oh you Catholics worship images.’ No we don’t, ‘yes you do,’ no we don’t, ‘yes you do,’ no we don’t! The final retort to that is… I have a doctorate, in Catholic theology that I have earned the hard way; by sitting in university classrooms for twelve years. I know what we believe! You get a doctorate in Catholic theology? What do you know about it? Nothing! You don’t know anything about it. You’re saying things that are born of misunderstanding or ignorance.” -Weekly Wisdom 03-08-08

“There are people who say, ‘oh every time Catholics make the sign of the cross they re-crucify Christ.’ Look, that’s what comes under the theological classification of happy horse manure! Got it, that’s what that is. That’s bologna, absolute bologna! They don’t know anything about our religion, and I don’t purport to know anything about theirs. I respect theirs, respect ours. When we make the sign of the cross we are simply making a statement of faith. I believe in the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and I believe in the sign of the cross, because that is the sign of our salvation!” -Weekly Wisdom 03-08-08

Show me in the Bible where it says, ‘Only The Bible’

I have never heard a confession that was worse than the first one I made when I returned to the Church.

My grandmother, who had only an eighth grade education, knew more than many theologians because she knew the truth.

How can abstract fetal tissue leap in his mothers womb? (LK 1:41)

When you crash against the rock, you will not damage the rock but you will hurt yourself. (MT 16:18, the Church)

Ignorance of the Catechism is ignorance of Christ, just like the Bible.

Theologians who teach that angels, the devil, and hell, don’t exist have lost their faith.

The sin of the century is the loss of the sense of sin.

Look to the teachings of the Pope and the Magisterium for the truth.

Believe everything the Holy Church has presented for our belief. That is faith.

“If you have holes in your shield, the devil is a very good shot, andhe will shoot an arrow right through the holes and hit you.”
