I have not one person to talk to!

I hope you find the help you need.

Just to reinforce what others have said, and what you have read, unless you know that you have committed a mortal sin, you have not. There has to be full knowledge and deliberate consent, as well as grave matter.

Of course you know that receiving the Eucharist takes away all venial sins, and gives us strength to avoid future sins. Please return to the Eucharist ASAP.
God bless.

.
If only it was that easy, I would do it :o It is not as easy as just return. That may not be understandable for some people but those that know from experience the anxiety I describe know that it is not as simple as that.

Perhaps it’s Satan trying to keep you away from the Lord. There is no reason for you not to receive the Eucharist.
But it does sound as if you would benefit by counseling/ a spiritual advisor. If only Padre Pio were with us still. Pray for his intercession.

I just do not know what to think anymore. Then I went and talked with another member of my parish and I told him why I did not want to receive communion. He told me that he cannot think of a reason to not receive unless I killed someone  LOL There is a lot I do not know but I am certain that is not correct theology.

I can almost hear the theme to “The Benny Hill show” as I have tried to figure this all out lol.

This is kind of just a rant. Sorry if that offends anyone. If you don’t like it, do not read it.

I just spend hours fighting intense temptation to sin mortally. It finally passed, Thanks be to God. Why was I going through temptation for so long? Because I am here alone bored out of my mind. I am lonely. I never use to get lonely, but now I do.

I cannot get help it seems. I also suffer from Scrupulosity. It is torture. I have not had more than a day or two’s peace in a row for the past 4 months. Nobody to talk to about it either. I think I might be OCD but I am not sure. I told my mother and all she did was dismiss it. Reminds me of the time that I was using drugs heavily for about 5 years and all my mother said about it was “Are you almost done with what you are doing?” LOL. No help. Just those words. No attempt to help. Why? Because she knew I would be okay eventually… I am almost 7 years clean so she was right… but still. Thanks for the support… I had NO SUPPORT!!! I did alright without it. But I need it now. Not from my Mom . I am 30. What I want is a wife to support and be supported by. But I am single and have no prospects of getting married any time soon.

8 days ago in confession a priest told me that to receive communion while in doubt about the status of a sin we may have committed IS a mortal sin. In other words… I have to confess every single doubtful sin. That is what I heard. How else can his words be taken? The problem is I am always unsure if I am in a state of grace. How can I be 100% sure that something I judge as venial is not in fact mortal? I cannot. I can have a rough Idea but How can I be 100% certain? If I have even a slight doubt about something, my mind grabs onto it and I can spend all day thinking about it. That is just how my mind works. How can I be expected to never be in any doubt at all when I receive communion? So now I have not taken communion for 2 weeks. I emailed my priest 6 days ago to get his opinion on all this but I am yet to get a answer. I have emailed a religious order today asking if any of their priests that might be competent in dealing with scrupulosity can give me spiritual direction. I hope I get a answer.

I lost over 100lbs By myself with my grandparents always telling me that I could cheat on my diet and start tomorrow. Thanks a lot!! Though I forgive them, it was their fault I got so fat. When A kid is fat, you do not blame the kid. I Tried to go on a diet about every week in elementary school. I did not have the will power to stick with a diet until I was 16. I also prayed every night while on that diet. I got over my drug problem with The help of God. It was a tough habit to kick. Nobody held my hand. I did not need help. I did not need to talk about my feelings. I just stopped.

But I need someone to talk to now. I cannot solve this scrupulosity problem on my own. I have come to accept that I will not have support from family in pretty much anything significant when it comes to emotional stuff. I hope I get a response from my priest and The religious order. I need help. Receiving communion was a great joy that I now am terrified to do. Other than my job, I have no other joy in my life anymore. Religious things are starting to only cause me stress. I know that is not how God intends it to be. This is something I really need help with and I admit for the fist time in my life that I need to talk to someone about it. Pray for me please.
You say you didn’t need anyone’s help to kick your drug habit but you recognize God’s help. This is the key. God is always with us so you’re never alone. Even when Jesus faced 40 days in the desert being tempted by the evil one, God the Father was with Him. You say you face your strongest temptation when you feel bored; then don’t be bored.

Find something to do so you don’t become bored. Write a list of friends who need prayers and Pray a Rosary for each of them. Every day. Then write a list of enemies who you really despise and pray a Rosary for each of them; every day. Then pray a Rosary for yourself and one for soul in purgatory. This is just one suggestion. There are so many things you can do to help others and you won’t be bored!

God Bless you!

That’s what I am trying to do. I hope I get a answer from my email to my priest and that religious order. Not all priest can help with scrupulosity though. One priest simple told me to “Try to not be so scrupulous” and another priest told me that scrupulosity is when someone try’s very hard to please God. I do not know if I really have OCD or not. I definitely have some symptom’s. I am trying to get help finally. It sounds like nothing but it was EXTREMELY hard to work up the courage to finally email my pastor about my problem. I am trying.
You have been given good advice. Also, pray much for the right priest to advise you. Ask our Blessed Mother to find one for you.

Just wanted to add my opinion that you should seek out both a therapist and a spiritual director. With your past history and lack of support, you need a professional to help you navigate. A therapist will diagnose whether you have OCD or another underlying issue. Remember, grace builds on nature. You need to take care of your mental health, so that you can then turn to God and your relationship with Him in the right frame of mind. Your diocese should have a list of Catholic therapists or some resources to help you. Perhaps they can recommend a priest who is good with scrupulosity to be your director. It doesn’t hurt to ask.

As to your immediate problem with confession, err on the side of mercy. Jesus came to minister to the sick. Find a priest who understand scruples (and not all of them do) and make them your regular confessor. Mortal sin HAS to involve grave matter. So many scruples come from a misunderstanding of this.

God bless you and I pray you will find good people to help you on your journey.

The person who said only killing someone is reason to not receive Communion, is Wrong!
If the person is sorry & confessed killing to a priest, in confession…he can also receive.

The only reason NOT to receive Communion is if you committed any mortal sin and didn’t confess it.
If the priest gave you absolution and you didn’t commit any other mortal sins before receiving…then you can receive Communion! 👍

What about spiritual communion? Why do people never mention it, as if it does not exist? The church even sanctions it, and I’ve read in God’s word too that this is ok. at times necessary, good and that God hears and answers that prayer for it. Why would He not? ** I’m not at all saying Holy Communion is not important… NO WAY!** But I think there are instances in life that God knows people cannot receive for a variety of reasons- maybe they are prisoners of war, or maybe they are stuck sick somewhere and can’t come to Mass. What would be wrong in this case for LaughingBoy to just pray and ask God for a spiritual communion if at this time in his life he is having troubles with scruples? Its a mercy to ease the point of pressure. God is merciful. God is patient. God is kind… That is from Scripture!
Code:
LaughingBoy, would this help at all? Could you feel as though if you were worthy you would receive spiritually from God and if you were not you would not?** This puts the deciding up to God**, and this would put pressure off of you- something YOU said already you believe God does not want or is making this happen to you. Until you feel ready, why not just do all that you can do in your faith for now?
  • I *firmly believe God would give you spiritual communion. If you were at this point of pain to try and do God’s will to the point its torturing you, then how not could a compassionate loving God NOT give it to you?
We have to be careful in getting caught up in legalism- YES, the Church has sacraments and they are very very holy and necessary, but God also has the authority to send out His grace to those who really need it. Speaking of, LaughingBoy you might be looking for something called consolation- which God often withholds when He wants to strengthen you.
OH one very important thing to note- NONE of us ever know if we are in a state of grace... ever. St. Joan of Arc when asked if she was in a state of grace simply stated- "If I am not in the state of grace, may God put me there; and if I am, may God so keep me.." We only hope for God's mercy in that we are in a state of grace when we receive, but only after doing our 'homework' so to speak- in spending time looking inward and confessing our faults do we allow ourselves to receive. The rest is pure hope and faith in God that he would excuse us for our imperfections.

Laughing,

I am sorry you are going through this. First off you will always have us here to “talk” with, you will never be alone. As for sin – guess what – we all are sinners and no matter how hard we try we will always be. It is through the sacrifice of Jesus that we are redeemed. At the times you feel as if you are about, pray for strength to resist it. If you have sinned, pray for forgiveness (I have to pray for forgiveness a lot myself :o) .

I gather from your posts that you are young (young to me – being 50). Do not worry what others think of you, try and get out there and be social – yes I know it is easier said than done. But the thing is when meeting new people – when they first meet you the way you behave or act is how they will believe you have always been. So try and be outgoing, friendly, and show your faith. There will be some who will not accept you for whatever reason, but there will be more who will accept you. Even if you feel a little uncomfortable at first – after a while it will become natural for you to be outgoing and such.

The thing is, again, do not worry about what others think. Rely on God. He will always be there to listen to you and grant you strength. And yes you will stumble, fall down, or even get lost for a bit. But with faith and God’s love you will come through every obstacle and be the better for it.

Best of luck my friend.

I will pray that God continues to grant you strength and also peace.

I think this is good advice. Not to diagnose you, OP, but earlier you said you didn’t think you had OCD because you don’t do the hand washing type things. But there’s another type of OCD called “Pure-O” where it’s more the obsessions, and it’s only been recognized more recently - I’ve had it for years. It probably wasn’t recognized earlier because those of us who have it feel a boatload of shame and embarrassment and are reluctant to talk about it. So what I’m saying is don’t be afraid to get evaluated by someone who knows about this stuff.

Also, for the spiritual side, there’s an OCD-Scrupulosity Social Group here on CAF, and there’s Scrupulous Anonymous with Fr. Santa, who was my first spiritual director! 🙂 He knows his stuff when it comes to scruples. And you can read the SA newsletters online. Particularly the “Ten Commandments for the Scrupulous” in one of the back issues might be helpful. The business of knowing for sure you haven’t committed a mortal sin before receiving Holy Communion - it must be approached differently by a scrupulous person vs. a non-scrupulous person. The priest who told you what to do was not wrong for a normal person but you are a scrupulous person so you need to find the right advice for your situation. God bless!
