Hello all, I would Just like to share something. I would like to say there is so much HATE in this forum, and yes I said HATE. We have Catholics, fighting with Protestants, Protestants fighting with Catholics. Lets just get something straight, We all believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord, and I think instead of fighting, we should be trying to help those who don’t know the truth, the Buddist, The Muslims, the Atheists, We should preach the Truth!!! We should ask the Good Lord above to help those people OUT! We should get together, and try to end world hunger, try to help those people out that REALLY need it, not trying to get converts into our church. I used to think like this, that Catholisism was the only way home, and I still Believe That the Catholic Church, is the True Church, but I accept other people of their differences. I think we should try to come together, and Really become the body of Christ. I just thought I should share that, lets get Catholics, Baptists, Lutherans, and all who believe in the word of Jesus, and spread the Truth! God Bless to ALL!!

Im with you all the way. 👍

You are right, and I will be praying for us right now. With that being said, I do believe it is our job to evangelize to others who dont know about Jesus ie. non-Christians and athiests. It is also important to clear up misconceptions that non-Catholic Christians might have about the Catholic Church and its teachings.

thanks,
God Bless

While I don’t deny that there is definitely animosity within this forum, please do not confuse earnest (yes, even vehement) disputation with hatred. Not everything that goes on in here is the result of sectarian hatred. Much is related to a heated love for the Truth. While we should concern ourselves with those who have not heard the Good News, at all, we should also concern ourselves with those who posess an incomplete truth mixed in with error.

Well, i think we should preach to those that don’t know Jesus, and THEN get past out differences.

I got this felling because I wondered into to the “Who founded your Denomination Thread”, and i felt like there was defenatly some hating going on in there. Like people throwing out quotes from the bible, and just hating on each other, and i honestly believe that isn’t right. I pray for an end to abortion and for the conversion of Muslims and Buddist and all who don’t believe in Jesus Christ, I ask all those who have gone before us, Saints or whatever you want to call them, to pray for us here on earth because it isn’t ganna be like this in heaven, everyone will be happy and just love God.

I agree that the hateful ways in which the disagreements can be dealt with on forums is a problem.

But what are you going to preach? What the Baptists preach? What the Seventh Day Adventists preach? Why, if I were an atheist for example, would I pick Catholic ‘truth’ about Jesus and his teachings over Baptist ‘truth’ over something else?

When I was gradually changing my worldview from an atheistic one to a Christian one, it was kind of important to know ‘why’ there were intra-Christian differences. And unfortunately, some of the doctrinal differences are very big. I don’t think that pretending the differences don’t exist does anybody any good.

Man just the Truth, the fact that Jesus came here for the conversion of sinners, the Fact that he was born, died, and rose from the dead on the 3rd day. And the fact that he dweals in EACH and everyone of us. Can I get an Amen up in here!

Is that all the Truth?

Perhaps the Truth has more objective content:
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen
Or more inclusive still:
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son
he is worshipped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. AMEN.
What is the “Truth”?

Who gets to say?

Justin

Well, Just because we have our own version of the truth, and they have their own version of the truth, it is STILL the truth. The fact that Jesus is our Lord and Savior. Common, are you trying to tell me that Just because we have our little diffrences, we can’t get past them to PREACH. Many Catholics Believe that Most Christian Denominations have some truth. So all that matters is that we have a common ground, Jesus Christ.

I totally disagree. The tone of this forum is extremely civil, yet not fascist. Compared to another forum I often check on, this place is an ecumenical paradise.

With the exception of a few Protestants, maybe more, I’ve noticed that several trolls have no intention of listening or engaging in dialogue. They’re here to “save” us. With the sword and armor of truth on, they don’t need to listen–only preach. They believe it’s their divine mandate.

So, no worries. A few of us certainly have gotten impatient and heated, but I’ve almost always seen apologies. Not bad, considering…

WELL, I GUESS I JUST GIVE UP, MY VISION WILL PROLLY NEVER COME TRUE. 😦

True, there is common ground. And preaching a general message of salvation is a good thing.

The hard part is probably agreeing on where to agree to ‘stop’ general preaching without getting bogged down in doctrinal differences.

I remember one Baptist who tried to convince me that any non-Christian who had seen as much as a bumper sticker that says “Jesus Saves” and didn’t convert was doomed to hell for rejecting God … This Baptist was a nice guy, and in some sense was quite helpful in my eventual conversion, but his version of the truth sure didn’t make an awful lot of sense to me …

What does that mean, Jesus is our Lord and Savior? It seems to have been a very important question for Jesus.
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:15 RSV)
We say He is the Son of the living God. What do we mean by that? How important is our answer?
“I am The Lord your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.” (Exodus 20:2-3 RSV)
Do we worship Jesus, or not? Is the Son of God, God the Son?

There is more at stake here than can be ignored for the sake of unity.

Agreed. “Just agreeing on the basics” at the expense of truth is just as bad as false teaching. In fact, it IS false teaching. It’s false to think because we passionately defend or assert something, we’re somehow being cruel or unfriendly. This feel-goodism goes waaaaay to far.

We also have Catholics fighting with Catholics, not willing to just agree to disagree, I wonder if we would act this way were we face to face with this person? I doubt it, remember we are christians and if you can’t control your anger or agree that you and the other person just disagree then walk away, don’t try to hurt anybody.
Peace!

I want to put my two cents in here. I think this particular forum is excellent because it gives Catholics a chance to clear up misconceptions about the Church.

As a Catholic, I have experienced so much misunderstanding and Catholic-bashing from Protestants in the past. For me it started in 3rd grade when a classmate told me that Catholics believe in idols. I’ve had Protestants tell me that I am not a Christian because I’m Catholic. I’ve had Protestants tell me that I’m not “saved”.

You talk about hate in these forums? Just turn on 3ABN Broadcasting and listen to the 7th Day Adventists degrade everything about my Faith that I hold dear.

Blessings,
Shannin
