Dear E.E.N.S.

quote: E.E.N.S.
Yes, but the lukewarm will not remain in Him…
“Didn’t we cast out demons in Your name, didn’t we…”
“Depart from Me. I never knew you.”

Seems like “works” didn’t cut it for this bunch, huh?

Works flow from faith in Jesus.
St. James can say: “Faith without works is dead”
until the cows come home…unless this is interpreted
as: There is no *lively *faith unless it demonstrates
itself in works…both out of gratitude and obedience.
[No one can be perfectly obedient, and that’s what
repentence is for.] Note: “lively” versus “lukewarm”

Charity trumps faith.

“There remain faith, hope and charity, but the greatest
of these is charity.” Not goofy felt “love” banners,
not fun-type “charity” events, but real, hard charity,
that takes something out of us.
The result of this kind of charity: “When did we see You hungry…?”
“Come into the joy of My Kingdom.”

It’s all about the heart, in the end. Faith *is *heart and
mind and will working in unison…a trinity of sorts,
mirroring the Trinity.

God will not be mocked…not by ‘pretend’ believers,
faith-only “Christians” who couldn’t give a hoot
about their neighbors, those with juridical mindsets
who fail to carry out Jesus’ command to “love one
another, as I have loved you”, members of the “true
Church” without a drop of mercy or understanding or pity
in their veins…or by people like me, who values
her sense of absurdity too highly.

Hi, RyanL,

I just realized that it wasn’t you who asked me a question
about the Chief Rabbi of Rome. Sorry about that, it
was on another website!

Hi, Barbara Therese,

Was it the whole last paragraph, or:
[God will not be mocked]…by people like me, who values her sense of absurdity too highly.
I was much affected by the work of the existentialist, Albert Camus.
His whole project was how to live with dignity, with some kind of
values, in an absurd universe that has no meaning.

I’ve just lost a relative whom I loved dearly…she was only 59.
The absurd is much with me these days, as is a sense of
bitterness.

Hi, Barbara Therese,

Yes, I guess it could be considered “jarring.”
The recent loss of a relative [at age 59] has
capped a life of suffering, for me.
I’ll rest in indifference, until I have enough energy
to be an agnostic, who accepts the absurd.
[Camus was right.]

Kaycee,
  • No one comes to the Son unless he is drawn by the Father.
  • All that are drawn have heard and learned from the Father
  • Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father come to the Son.
  • All that the Father gives to the Son will come to the Son.
I think your logic here is flawed at one crucial step:You are assuming that all people whom God calls “learn from the Father”, and that all who hear the call also come. God wishes that all be saved, so He must call everyone. It is only those that respond to that call by turning to God who receive the grace that is everlasting friendship with God
my explanation was not clear

John 6:37 “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.”

John 6:39 “This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day.”

All that the Father gives to the Son are raised up on the last day.

John 6:44"No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.”

All that the Father draws are raised up on the last day.

All those given by the Father and drawn by the Father are raised up on the last day.

No one that is drawn by the Father rejects the Son.

RyanL:
GOOD! So we can agree that salvation is by the grace of God alone, and there is nothing we could possibly do to work our way to heaven! Excellent. Never let it be said that you disagree with Catholics about everything. 😉

Here’s some more info, also on Justification, from the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Please let me know if you agree (modern English :D):

God bless,
RyanL
I would say the 1689 Westminster confession describes the vast majority of what I believe.

Peace! <><

Paul seems to be sure what his status is.
Perhaps you are right; So what do you think it is that Paul is saying in the following verse: 1 Cor 27 But I chastise my body, and bring it into subjection: lest perhaps, when I have preached to others, I myself should become a castaway.

How could Paul possibly become a castaway?

Your brother in Christ.

According to the Westminster confession, you believe that the Pope is the anti-Christ and that “The Real Presence” of Christ in the Eucharist is repugnant. This is so very sad. 😦

And this gives you true peace?

I do not believe the pope is the anti-christ.

I do not believe the eucharist is the real body and blood.

Guess I should have put in the caveats.

see 1 Cor 3:10-15. Rewards of the believer.

Phil 1:23-25 "But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; 24 yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. "

2Cor 5:8 - “we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.”

Are you saying that being a castaway is synonymous with being with Christ or at home with the Lord, according to Paul?

offcourse not. Just saying Paul wants to run the race and not be disqualified from the believers rewards. The other verses were showing Paul knew he had eternal life. “Absent from the body, present with the Lord”

1 Cor 3:10-15 "10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it. 11 For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. 14 If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a** reward**. 15 If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

1 Cor 9:24 "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. 25 Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air; 27 but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

IMHO, anyone who reads John 6 and says that the Eucharist is not the Real Body and Blood of Christ, has no life in them. Jesus said, and He proved it, I believe it–period. The rest is all fluff, imo.

We cannot claim to accept the Bible and what Jesus teaches, while concurrently twisting Jesus’ Words into something that is no in the text. Jesus made it clear over-and-over in John 6, it is His Real Body and Blood and we absolutely must eat the same if we want to have His life within us…it is the one and only thing in the entire Gospel that we can say gives us assurance…Jesus made the Promise, I will trust our Lord, not all the fluff tossers. 🙂

Yes! And Paul supports this literal teaching of Jesus in (1 Cor 11:27)
👍

If I have Peace and Joy in my soul…then I thank and I praise The Lord who is Merciful to me, a sinner…and I pray that this Mercy He will extend to all!!! Does it matter that someone says I do not have true Peace…but only a Peace. No it matters not to me … for my soul and I am at Peace and this state of Peace is a blessing that I can share with all through Prayer.

We quote to each other passages of Scripture to support our premise…our concept. What I hear is “Not all who say Lord! Lord! shall enter into My Kingdom” and I also hear “Work out your own salvation in fear and trembling”. My hope is that at Judgement The Lord will be Mericiful to me and indeed to all…do I have any guarantees…no I do not - no absolute guarantee to which I can cling…I would lie if I said I did!!!.. only the hope that now sustains me that God will have Mercy on me and continue me in Peace in this life and also in the next. My hope in Peace for all. My hope invests in what my Faith tells me …and both a leap into the dark, helplessness, trust and confidence.

What can I prove to you…nothing except my sinfulness!!!..and in this my weakness I find my greatest strength!!!

Just pointing out that Paul was not concerned about being disqualified for Salvation, just gain and loss of rewards at the believers reward seen below

1 Cor 9:24 "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. 25 Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. Believers reward for the good works or lack of (Eph2:10)
