Is it wrong that I have no interest in defending Catholics or the Church? If this is wrong, please explain why.

I mean, are you trying to start a conversation about why you are considering leaving Catholicism?

Or are you planning to continue being Catholic because you believe in Catholicism?

If it’s the latter:
Peter 3:15

“but in your hearts reverence Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to make a defense to any one who calls you to account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and reverence”
Scripture calls you to make a defence.

I have no problem defending my own stances as a Catholic individual. But I see no purpose in defending the pope, other Catholics or the Church.

…Is there some teaching or reason why I should?

Do your “own stances” differ from the stances of “the Church”?

Could you give an example of a stance of “the Church” that you would not defend?

…It seems like a worldly instinct to do so, and not something holy.

I am 100% Catholic. But I defend not the Church… Why should I…?

Didn’t St. Peter tell us to keep ourselves ready to speak about the Church/the Faith?

You have not answered my question. I repeat it for you here:

No. He said: " Be prepared to make a defense to any one who calls you to account…"

And as others asked, as a Catholic, do you believe in the Catholic faith? if so, then you defend YOUR faith which happens to INCLUDE the Pope, etc. Etc.

I don’t see pope Francis defending Catholics or the Church so much… So why would we?

Not everyone is called to be in the public square doing apologetics. You don’t have the duty to engage in public debates or anything.

Of course I believe in the Catholic faith… But by what reasoning does that lead one to “defend”…? Where is the teaching in our Catechism that calls us to “defend” Church teaching or Catholics?

Was he in a situation where a person said something factually untrue about Catholics and he stood by and did nothing?

If so, that was wrong.

Show me 3 instances of Pope Francis publicly defending the Church or the clergy against non-Catholic rhetoric.

It’s your thread, so I figured you’d come across something that upset you?

Well, all you’re saying is that your stance sometimes differs from that of the Pope, other Catholics and the Church. Not many of us go out of our way to defend a stance we ourselves don’t accept.

I sense hostility in this topic, and this might not be what the OP is really asking, but a Catholic does not have to be an apologist or a theologian to be a good Catholic.

I had zero interest in babies and children until I became pregnant and then gave birth, I rejoiced in my friends falling pregnant, congratulated and supported them but that was not the same.
