Yeah, it came on in the car on the way home from church one Sunday. I started noticing the lyrics and turned it off. One of the girls turned it back on. I turned it off again. On off on off. I got mad. Told them it was part of a societal effort geared at middle school kids to normalize acceptability of bisexuality. The kids jeered at me and rolled their eyes.

Now when it comes on they make a point of turning the sound up just to annoy me.

Teenagers suck.
Whoa, this would so NOT HAPPEN in my car. I’ve already raised 3 daughters into adulthood now. When we got in the car, I had assigned seats. No kidding. Whoever was oldest got to sit in the front. Period. Others went in the back. And when it came time for radio, it was MY station ONLY. This actually started when they were smaller, and it stopped all fighting. When they learned to drive, I let the driver pick the station. Obviously, we would not be listening to anything disgusting.

Libero, if I were you, I would not bother lecturing kids who jeer you. I would start working on teaching these kids how to respect you. No one should be allowed to be rude to you in any way, shape or form. To teach this rule, you need to be prepared to either pull your car over or turn around and go home. People will be late. People won’t be happy. Oh well. They will learn if they want to get someplace with YOU driving, there will be respect.

Well, considering they spend 48% of the time at their father’s, he lets them use computers, radios, Ipods, cell phones… no consequences for their behavior really.

Some day when they have their own kids, they’ll realize just how difficult their father made their own upbringing.

Not that he ever encouraged them to treat me with respect. He taught them their first phrase I’d hear them repeat when they were two: “F-ing b----”

I sincerely hope God’s justice is eternal for the kind of person who has imperiled their souls and scandalized them the way he has. Between him and the rest of the sewer of society I wonder if they have a chance.

And this kind of behavior is mostly new in the last few years. Since they became teenagers and realized they were omniscient and had the wisdom of the ages at their fingertips.

I am just an old lady who knows absolutely nothing.

It’s a wonder they all survived this long with someone as stupid as me taking care of them.

I’m seriously considering when the youngest turns 18 that I will move and not tell any of them where I live.

Everything is a battle. Clothes, music, homework, boyfriends. When I say “No, you won’t…” I’m accused of being argumentative and always starting fights “and dad never does this!”

Of course not.

Divorce sucks too, by the way. I can see why God said, “I hate divorce.”

So do I.

hugs My stepdaughter is very undisciplined, too. She’s only 7, but everything is already a battlefield with her.

Alright…well here’s one Uber Liberal’s point of view.

To those with kids: Don’t turn off the radio when the song comes on. Instead, use it as a teaching point. If you feel so strongly about it, SAY something to them. Your kids will be exposed to these things whether you like it or not, so you’d might as well get used to it, and instead try to make YOUR voice the one they hear over the voice of the media.

I agree with Liberanosamalo’s statement the most: “Told them it was part of a societal effort geared at middle school kids to normalize acceptability of bisexuality.”

If you just shut off the radio while muttering “none of that trash in my car!” then you’re cutting off the dialog about it. This is the intellectual equivalent of sticking your head in the sand, or covering your eyes and yelling “If I can’t see it, it’s not there!”

Instead, I suggest you try and EDUCATE your children. Just like those commercials about teaching your kids about drugs before they find out the hard way, if you keep your kids in a sheltered bubble you’ll be doing more harm than good.

:hug1: I’ll be praying for you. As a teen, I’d say to others like that, “Not cool, not cool at all!” I’ll also pray for your girls. And that your ex wises up. That’s seriously not cool.

Pretty much in my house, whomever needs to get out first sits in the front. Otherwise, oldest gets dibs. Usually me, but when I’m at school (for eight, soon to be ten months out of twelve), my sister gets it. And whoever drives gets to pick the music. A lot of the “now” stuff is pretty much banned, not for immorality (I’m one of two practicing Catholics, the other is my little brother), but because it’s just bad! I’m both a singer and an aspiring linguist so I’ve got sensitive ears for that stuff and it’s just jarring!

I heard the song for the 1st time the other day at work. We had the radio on, and when the song came on we were all about half listing, but a few lines into it 3 of us were running for the radio to change it. At least the customers were understanding although happy we changed it. 😃

y’all think that’s bad… I had the unfortunate pleasure to hear her follow up “Your so Gay” Believe it or not its is much worse than the first one. I stubled on it through you tube and sorry I did.

may the Blessed Mother pray for us all

You should buy a Lawrence Welk cd, and blast it with the windows rolled down when you come to pick them up from school. (if you pick them up) Or if they’re at friends. It probably wouldn’t happen again.“Mommy’s going to keep doing this until you learn not to listen to this music, kids.”

I still talk in the third person with my kids.😊

😃

Christopher West’s take on it:

youtube.com/watch?v=1n4iStqs56A
West annoys me.
  1. He rants cuz she was raised and FORBID to listen to anything BUT Christian music…um, maybe someone needs to let Chris know when religion is shoved down childrens throats they 99.999% of the time - do what folks? REBEL! 😉
  2. He mentions what our society is coming to…this makes me laugh cuz this type of stuff has been around long before radio, tv, etc. homosexuality, bisexuality, etc. Its all in a book called THE BIBLE…and was even aroud before that recorded history

The thing that annoys me the most about this song is that she says “I kissed a girl just to try it” and then she goes on to sing that she has a boyfriend. So she is toying with two people with one action. Can she be more selfish!! My DH just reckons I think to much about songs. And the tune always get stuck in my head and I find myself singing it in the supermarket:D
Yes it is a silly song made to annoy people…and I agree with you she’s playing 2 people and of course that’s just wrong…
Not only that but the example the radio station is throwing out there for everyone? I was in the car with my kids and I don’t catch on the lyrics at first, and I thought it was a guys saying “I kissed a girl and I liked it” until I heard “I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it” I was like WHAT? And my daughter who’s 10 heard it and was singing along with it…I was like “Oh I don’t think so!!!” then she asked me why she kissed a girl, and I was like uhm see it’s just a song for publicity and to make money that’s all she was like “yeah but?” and I was like honey seriously it’s not important it’s just a silly song with silly words and a catchy rythm that’s all
She was like yeah it is catchy!!
Well I too found myself humming this ugh song while I was in the gym… 😦 I feel so salty!!!

As far as point 1- that’s exactly his point, that’s what’s saying, that she is rebelling and she has been hurt.

Point 2, you have a point, but it’s much more accessible nowadays.

Apparently. According to Wikipedia, Perry was raised by two pastors:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katy_Perry
“Perry was born in Santa Barbara, California, USA. The middle child of two pastors,[1] she grew up listening to gospel music and singing in church.[3] Katy Perry graduated from Chaparral High School in Temecula, California in 2003 and immediately moved to Los Angeles at the age of 17 [4] After Steve Thomas and Jennifer Knapp signed Perry to their label Red Hill Records, she released her first CD Katy Hudson in 2001, a Christian gospel album.[5] According to several Christian radio stations, Katy Perry’s most recent album One of The Boys has raised a considerable amount of controversy as her single “I Kissed a Girl” champions the forces of immorality versus morality, and promotes sexual activity that conflicts with her Christian upbringing; on the other hand, the single “Ur So Gay” has been interpreted as being homophobic for its derogatory use of the word “gay”. In her teenage years, Perry found a Queen album with her friend, “From then on, they have been my biggest influence”.[6] Also among her musical influences are Alanis Morissette[7] as well as Heart and Joni Mitchell.[8] Perry changed her surname to Perry because “Katy Hudson” was too close to Kate Hudson.[9] Perry was her mother’s maiden name.[1]

I somewhat agree that kids, if they are taught to understand Christ’s teachings, should be permitted to think on their own. I have personally never heard of this song. I don’t listen to the radio music much…either my ‘boring’ jazz cds as they would call it, or I listen to talk radio. I hate most pop music. They listen to rap and some other things, but I don’t think that we need to be gestapos, because I have seen many of my high school friends go absolutely nuts in college, because they lived so strictly…were told every move to make, every thing to think, every thing to listen to. I don’t blame anyone from turning the channel…please don’t misunderstand me. But, it could be a teachable moment.

I allow my kids to watch a lot of programs that have some adult content, within reason, to serve as teachable moments. Usually these movies are Lifetime movies, on sexually transmitted diseases, or premarital sex with teens…these types of movies. It really has opene their eyes to things they might face, and serve as teachable moments.

But, I think that controversy sells.

Thanks for my laugh of the day! 😃

Gonna start referring to myself in the third person from now on. When I talk to myself they complain. I just tell them it’s the only time I get a polite answer.

Really!!! I do that with my kids once in a while and my daughter asks me “why are you talking like that?!” And I tell her the only person that hears me and listens to me (other than GOD) is me!!!
So definitely will keep this in mind!!! Thanks for sharing!!
